I think that you are a shining example of what a true black belt is. You are constantly studying the art and most importantly you are infectiously passionate of the art. I think that's what really makes a black belt, sure if you can assassinate anyone on the mats that's cool, but to bring people in the fold and to share that passion to make everyone around them better is the mark of a true black belt. Champions come and go but an instructor that brings more into the art is the most important. Congratulations on your black belt, I wish you nothing but the best from here!

3 years a white belt is a fair while longer than normal, but you only needed one stripe on your purple to go to brown. White belt is where I am, and I don’t reckon I’ll get that far ahead personally. I do think it’s super fun and I love learning and training so If I stay white belt forever then that’s okay too.

That's an awesome attitude. Don't focus on the belts just go in and get better every time. As long as you're enjoying it and progressing the belts keep coming.

3 years as a white and 3 years as Blue was kind common in 90’s and 2000 I don’t know when this change I think internet helps to short time here. However, I still think that 3 and 3 makes you more mature for next belt

I love what you said about purple belt and feel like I can totally relate. I remember as a white and blue caring so much and feeling discouraged when I'd tap but now I'm just comfortable putting myself in bad scenarios or trying riskier moves that may put me in a bad position if I fail to execute. I just got to purple in December and have already noticed the mindset shift and really feeling confident in my game. It's taken me 10 years to get here as I'm from a small town and our highest ranked guy is brown now. We only had blues in our gym until about 6 years ago

Hello! Thank you. I have my own "blue print" but it is personal journey. Depending your coach also. I teach solid foundation of basic techniques and when they work we start to add more personalized stuff.
