My unsolicited advice with a 8 and 10 year old in bjj is to not push them. If they have a bad day or are just not feeling it, we skip a class. But I remind them that it’s a life skill like learning to swim

That’s so awesome as a father of 2 daughters myself. I was only able to get my oldest on the mats with me for a short while, as her true passion was competitive cheer, but man she was a sponge. Her flexibility and ability to retain body motions after only being shown once was amazing to watch as a father. And it was a great feeling to watch my mat brothers take her under their wing like a room full of uncles. She still reflects fondly of her time on the mats as well. I’ll probably never get her back in there seriously but possibly some Saturday open mats to keep her mind sharp. I can only imagine the happiness filling his heart as he was able to tell her story and promote her like that, absolutely awesome!

After losing my father that year, I decided my health must be at its best, so that I'm there for my sons as long as possible. And the other reason, to become a purple belt by the time they're ready to start training, so I can pass along the details of each technique. It has been difficult (I'm not young anymore), yet very rewarding. Keep training!

Damned Jocko iam trying to look tuff here but this brings tears to my eyes. My son started at the age of 4 and is loving it ever since. My daughter just quit Jiu Jitsu because of work school and time with friends she is 16 now i hated that decision but she will be back after her grades are getting better. But i agree it is the best gift from a parent to their children. 🙏 congratulations to your daughter brother
