Everybody her is just talking about the gender of the conductor .. Who cares? But can we please acknowledge the camera work?! Its one of the best, most interesting ones I've seen in a long time!! It really adds to the emotions of the music and brings forward the liveliness of the orchestra without being distracting!

It is dramatic, theatrical and colourful, very moving too. Makes feel like reading the original play by Alphonse Daudet. The end of this incidental music announces the dramatic genius of the end of Carmen, when a story of passion ends in the middle of a festival day. Extremely moving. As a comment went, thank you, Monsieur Bizet, for your genius.

Just simply a fantastic performance. Always loved the Farandole at the end - I played flute in this year's ago. I really like the way she ramps it up to warp speed so quickly at the end. Just what this piece needs.

I think I heard something along the lines of that Adolphe Sax, the person whoi invented the saxophone, was disliked by composers at the time and that they refused to use the instrument in thier compositions.

It's kind of a long story involving musical "politics" among other things during Sax's lifetime. It also didn't help that the instrument was picked up by jazz and was played a way that was considered vulgar for many decades. It's also tricky to write for it because an orchestra may not have a saxophone section and you kind of have to be an established composer before a conductor is likely to make that kind of exception for you. All this is a real shame because they are very untapped colour in the orchestra and one of the most versatile groups of instruments. The only limitation is that they don't have an enormous range, but they are not alone in that regard.

Wow, a wonderfully crisp performance of these ever-fresh suites. Can't help thinking though the tempi are rather on the brisk side. In the Minuet en especially the Carillon I find that a pity, personally. They become just a bit breathless. It works well in the Farandole though, which is by far the most exciting version I have heard. The Swedes are really on the edge of their seats.

Carillon. The march of the Three Kings is a medieval Christmas carol reorchestrated by Lully under the reign of Louis XIV as the march of Turenne regiment then reorchestrated by Bizet as a joyful Provencal farandole.
