How wonderful it is to sit here in Brisbane, Australia, listening to the Peer Gynt Suites for the umpteenth time, performed by the Kristiansand Philharmonic Orchestra all the way home in Norway where my hear longs. Thank you once again. ...... Hur fantastisk det er å sitte her i Brisbane, Australia, lytte til Peer Gynt Suite for n'te gang, fremført av Kristiansand Filharmoniske Orkester der hjemme i Norge, der mit hjerte lengter. Tusrn takk igjen. ♥
I said it in another Grieg video but I'll say it again - I, personally, identify Grieg as the Norwegian Tchaikovsky. He's a master of the folklore melody. Both he and Tchaikovsky were dedicated to capture the essence of their country and put it into notes. They definitely succeeded.
This suite by Grieg is one of the most melodic pieces of music ever written.....absolutely divine.

@@spikespa5208 actually I'm not sure, some orchestras/conductors from other countries can give a better rendering. For example, being English doesn't mean you're automatically better at playing Britten, or that you can't go wrong. Being German doesn't mean you don't have any disposition for playing Debussy. Don't you think ?

She told the stories about the composers and their Music. And as an Artist alongv with the other kids made chalk Art , Murals on Paper as well as Bulletib Boards. She was the best, and my favorite grade school teacher. I am 76 this September, Rhank You Very Much Miss Houlahan!!!

Gracias GRIEG
So, I was there, on any day about 50 years ago. I've just entered home from school and I turned on the radio. And Death of Asse began to sound. And I was held on the air for many minutes after the performance ended. You can forget a title, a composer's name. But yo will never forget a specific moment in your life. This superb performance brought me back to that moment. So simple.
This promotes spiritual uplift and awakening, and activates the human soul

Absolutely superb performance, one of the best of the Peer Gynt Suite to delight my ears in decades, my Mum used to have a 78 shellac record of it, she'd play it on a Sunday sometimes or during the week whilst doing housework, all siblings would retreat to the garden to play if she put the 'Hall of the Mountain King' on 😂 ❤️ 😊 Sadly she passed in 2015.

May I have your permission to include this lovely vignette from your life in an article or a book? It’s too precious to allow to slip into obscurity. I, too, have childhood memories of playing Swan Lake on the vinyl, 33 1/3 records. I would dress myself and my younger sisters in old, sheer curtains that we were allowed to play with, and we would dance our hearts out - the perfect ballerinas. I am 66 now and those memories are comforting. Also, I would like to say that I’m sorry for the loss of your mother. She sounds like a wonderful person.
Comfort and pathos surge up within me This masterpiece speaks to the soul
Simply an exhilarating performance of a well-known musical marvel.

Felt like I was on on a hill in the middle of nowhere, wind in my face, looking at the luscious, foggy landscape. Weird.
So this is where it came from! I learned this song in high school, back then All I knew it was “western music” as a Taiwanese school girl over 60 years ago. Now that I’ve lived in the west, knowing that this is from Peer Gynt,(which I had heard but probably forgotten) all my girlhood fantasies all come back!
What a Dramatic Performance!!! Standup applaud to the very Grieg's dramatic sound of Kristiansand Symphony Orchestra with Bjarte Engeset!!! It's a Drama more than music!!!

Edvard Grieg´s musical genius with magic lyrical strokes and ideas makes all the musical instruments of the symphonic canvas speak and narrate the essence and drama of this celebrated Norwegean saga. All the notes permeate the soul and nature of the narrative which words would make them superfluous.
Perfect, I discovered Grieg only this summer (after having lived 52 years without knowing him). I would like to thank this orchestra for their performance. Unfortunately the audience ca often be heard, but beside this, it is a pleasure to listen.
I haven’t heard the PeerGynt Suite in years! Thank you!❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

My siblings and I were raised with all kinds of classical music from infancy, as our parents were true music lovers. My friends and I would devise stories and games to fit many pieces of music, and then act them out with the music in the background. When we were old enough, our parents took us to hear the orchestra on a regular basis. We were so lucky to have this kind of upbringing. Music feeds the soul in such wonderful ways!

Definitely In my top 10 of Composers 🙂
Listening to Edvard through this interpreter is a delight to abolish the surge of everyday noises and images to half-open the space of elsewhere where contingency and representation give way to the immateriality of the sensitive. The expressive power of the sound architecture breaks with any form of transcription of reality to attach itself to the expression of a fabulous universe where the color and the hythm of the compositions constitute an expiration which gives voice to the exaltation 🤠
