Had he done as his trainers urged him, there's a strong chance he would have been killed or permanently disabled. The job of a corner above all is to protect their fighter. They failed miserably at that, and Golota kept them from making a fatal mistake.

Exactly what I was thinking. That punch by Tyson would've killed an average dude. Concussions that intense can trigger acute paranoia, panic attacks, memory loss...Golota would've never quit unless he knew, something was seriously wrong. It wasn't his will that was broken...

Tell me you don't know boxing, without telling me you don't know boxing. Any time a fighter tells his corner to stop the fight, or quits on the stool there's usually something very wrong with them. Either physically or mentally, but usually physically. They might not know exactly _what_ is wrong with themselves, but they are aware of enough to recognize when their body is telling them something has gone badly wrong and they need to stop.
