Bixler Quadplane VTOL with ArduPilot Maiden #2

It wasn't perfect, but it worked! A big thanks to the ArduPilot dev community for making this possible. I was able to repair the Bixler after my first VTOL crash and get it back in the air. This video covers the process as well as the transition to forward flight and transition back to hover and then land.
You'll notice some serious oscillations when making the final turn before landing. I believe this has to do with the STALL_PREVENTION parameters and code. I will be reviewing the log files and then trying to tune my frame in the coming weeks.
Thanks for following along!

Man... I apologize to your audience for being so terrible at filming airplanes in flight. I mean... I suck! I will get better though!

You did fine, you got the takeoff, transitions, and landing. The rest is just a bonus. It's much harder than one would think!

@@tpalshadow I totally agree, the important stuff looks good and the rest......well it will come, we're not going to get exquisite 😁

First of all, congratulations, it's going very well 😀 Don't you have a de-balled propeller? Sounds a little bad, like a lot of vibration. Or maybe a loose motor or something? I've always heard that even though you can make the air speed sensor was essential, that was still the reason for the accident? You said you didn't have that much damage. Well, I thought so, but considering the height he was at, he survived more than expected 😁 Thank you for sharing, so we can learn from each other too 😀

The motors are okay but I will double check the prop balancing. You're right, it probably looked like a lot of damage, but it was manageable since all I needed was some glue and zip ties :) I'll share an update soon after I get the airspeed sensor configured. Thanks for following along.

Thanks for posting - didn't you have the auto recovery (I forget the proper name) feature on? The feature where ardupilot will power up the quad to recover from a stall? Oh never mind I posted too soon :)

Great work Dennis. I wonder if the stall prevention in the Ardupilot could have helped save your QuadPlane? Was that enabled by default?

Nice work...which battery are you using for the quad setup ? Can you share the pid parameters for the quad setup ? Thanks in advance

Hi, I'm doing a similar project, and I wanted to know if the pitot tube is necessary for the operation of the vtol.

Hi Dennis, I didn't see much in terms of autotune as a quad or autotune as a plane. Can you please mention whether you ran through these routines separately or did you manual tune? Thanks!
