    Late to this one but bought a copy at UK Games Expo 2024. This video certainly helps to give an insight and (slight) understanding for this beast of a game...can't wait to give it a try or 2, or 3 or... 😂👍🏻

    Really good video. I never had the courage to try this solo, cause it seems super fiddly, but your video has helped me a lot! :)

    Still watching this playthrough and it’s good so far! I think tho that at about 29:12 when selecting whether to cross the river for Tengu it would only cross if its favorite Bitoku card type is available (as you mentioned). But since its favorite isn’t there then it would skip to the next option on the TAC. At least that was the way I played it. The rules can be a bit fiddly, haha. But good stuff so far!

    @@TotallyTabled I know that you mean! I made myself a little cheat sheet based off one I found on BGF files section. It makes determining Tengu’s actions so much easier and it’s made getting it to the table not so much of a hassle. I’m gonna try and upload. I’ve liked this game a lot but the barrier to get into it can be kinda rough for solo players. I want others to enjoy this game as much as I have because once you break through it makes it much more enjoyable. And it looks AWESOME on the table

    Just started watching this also. Perfect timing, as I was just reading through the solo rules, and looking for solo videos when this popped up. I think you may have missed something at about 7:30 when taking the first Tengu action. The action at the location Glade of Jade, page 29 of rulebook, says that also need to advance the Tengu's most competitive Kodama piece one space (there's an icon on the card itself). Thanks for doing this, this looks excellent but the solo mode requires some dedication to work through, and the rules aren't clear on all conditions.

    Oh, you are right. Not sure how I missed that one. Just overlooked it. Thanks for pointing it out. I had a feeling there would be more goofs than normal on this one, which is why I gave a preemptive apology 😂. Maybe I'll start making it part of my intro. Thanks for watching Beanrib!

    Hey, thanks Beanrib, that means a lot to me. I hope these videos make it easier for people to get games to the table, especially a game like Bitoku. I've read over a thousand rulebooks and this one was a struggle for some reason. I really appreciate the support and hope you enjoy the game!

    Great video, I really appreciate this! One small scoring error was during the kodama point count. The two points where the Tengu was tied with the dummy marker you scored one point for the first and zero for the second even though the points shown for third were both supposed to be for one point each. Does the Tengu not get to score ahead when tied with the dummy marker either or is that only when they are tied with the human player?

    one question about the setup: solo setup is the same as a 2-player setup, you add an additional colour of kodamas to all lake sectors, but it starts at spot 4 of the board (marked with an X), your setup was on spot 3 of all tracks.. did they change that? or do I have the wrong map? just wondering.. and is this additional colour only there, so that neither you or the AI can get to first place fast/easy? why doesn't the AI (in round 2) advance on the track where it is only 2 spaces behind the additional player's kodama?

  • @TotallyTabled

    @TotallyTabled

    It has been a while but I guess I thought that you start on the first space so that was the fourth space. (I'm also not seeing an X). But I could be wrong about that -- they aren't numbered so who knows. Yep, it is only there to add more competition for scoring purposes. I'm honestly not sure about your last question. It has been a while and I cannot remember if there is a rule for that or if it was a mistake. This game has a million tiny rules. Thanks for watching!

    @@TotallyTabled thanks for taking your time and answering my question! did you have an early copy of the game? because I have an "X" on space 4 (or 5 if the starting space is 1 and not 0 in this case), so one step further away.. I need to check on the AI rules to clarify my last question. I have played this game multiplayer a few weeks ago and loved it. wanted to try its solo mode, but I could not find the time to do so yet (the game is set up for over a week now.. *sigh*). will get to it this week, I hope.. :)

    @@wicked8576 The solo mode is tough, as the AI takes a lot of effort to control. I wouldn't worry too much about every little rule with the AI, as it can really mess up the flow of the game. Good luck and I hope you enjoy it!
