Who Should Buy the Bissell Crosswave?
The Bissell Crosswave is a well-rounded unit that has the ability to sweep, vacuum, and mop all at the same time. If you’re looking to knock out all of these, plus wash your area rugs, then the Bissell Crosswave could be a good addition to your household.
I would recommend the Bissell Crosswave if you’re looking for the following features in a wet dry vacuum:
Want a wet dry vacuum - As a wet dry vacuum, the Bissell Crosswave offers the ability to vacuum, sweep, mop, and wash. On hard floor surfaces, the Crosswave will vacuum up dry debris while also mopping the floors. As you move to area rugs, the Crosswave will work to deep clean your rug through its multi-surface brushroll.
Want serious deep cleaning - The Bissell Crosswave dominated our cleaning tests, both wet and dry. However, even more impressive, it was able to even clean grout lines fairly well. Even with just a couple of quick passes I could already see my tile grout lines becoming visibly cleaner.
Like the idea of washing your rugs - If you like the idea of being able to mop your floors and wash your area rugs with the same Bissell unit, the Crosswave could be a great option. Performance on both of these floor types is solid.
One last note, please remember that the Crosswave shouldn’t be used on carpets. Area rugs are fine, but not regular carpets.

    Partly on the strength of this video we bought a cordless Crosswave. The main purpose was to clean our vinyl plank floors when we had pet accidents (we have two large puppies now.) It is like a slightly weak vacuum cleaner for dry vacuuming, but its weaknesses show up when trying to clean puppy puddles. We use paper towels to get most of the liquid up. The first problem is that it is remarkably easy to dispense more water than the vacuum can pick up. Not a big deal - being stingy on the trigger can handle that. That produces the second problem: being stingy on the cleaning water tends to result in a lot of hair, various dirts, and not much liquid in the "dirty" canister. The only sensible way to clean it is over a toilet, using a pitcher of water to flush it out. My wife, who wanted it so much, hates it. I am ambivalent - for small cleanups the old ways are better, but cleaning the whole floor is still better with the Crosswave. I can't say I'm glad we bought it.

    Thanks for sharing your experience. I'm sorry to hear you don't like it better. I should have bee more clear that it's not designed for cleaning up pet urine or really any large quantity of liquid. I don't know of any product that would really do a great job for those types of messes, except for a more traditional mop. If you don't have a utility / laundry sink then the best way to empty it if it's got lots of large quantity debris going to be the toilet. I ended up doing the same. I think you really nailed it with your final summation. It's great at cleaning and washing lots of floors at once, but if you have a huge localized mess it's not going to do a great job at that.

    I have luxury vinyl plank flooring on entire first floor. I am searching for mop/vac combo. I want the vac to have atrong suction for dust, pet hair, small debris. I would vacuum every day. Then mop 2-3x per week. Can the functions be used separately? Should I keep searching for better product?

  • @ModernCastle

    @ModernCastle

    @@midlifemom5829 You cannot vacuum and mop separately with the Crosswave. At best the vacuum is like a good sweeper, while the mop itself is pretty good. If you're looking for amazing vacuum performance you will not be satisficed.

    We bought this to clean up after our older cat puddles which happen once or twice a day, I thought this would help suction up the small puddles and clean the floor afterwards, but what I am finding is the suction isn't as strong as I would like it to be so it takes multiple passes and the built in sprayer doesn't seem to be dispensing very much cleaning/water when the trigger is pulled so the tank is not filling up very much. Guess I will have to look into if this is a defective unit or it's by design..

    I'm very confused how this machine gets so many glowing reviews. I clean office buildings, and my boss bought Crosswave machines for us to use. The bathroom had dried soap under the dispenser. Tried running the crosswave over it, and it didn't come up. It required several pass overs to finally get it up. Then I proceeded to use it in the kitchen, where there was dried dirt and foot prints. After the floor dried, it didn't look very good. Also appeared to have track marks from the crosswave wheels. So I ended up taking out the manual mop and doing it the old fashioned way anyway. Looked much better. With a manual mop, you're also able to apply a lot more pressure to the floor for the harder, caked on stuff. Scuff marks, etc. Crosswave won't be able to handle that stuff, you're at the mercy of it's built in pressure. Which isn't much let me tell you. This was on a "light" night too. If I attempted to use this when the building was super dirty, with dried salt all over the floors in the winter, forget about it. The only use of this machine I can see is if you're cleaning up loose, wet stuff. If you think you're gunna be able to get up caked on dirt and grime, good luck.

    I love my Crosswave! I have very light marble-look ceramic tile. It’s lovely, but it shows dirt very easily. I hate the mop and bucket routine, but this cleaner makes that unnecessary. I also do make my own cleaning solution, but I put it in a separate spray pump bottle, from which I spray the cleaner onto the floor, allowing me to use the water tank for clean water to rinse the floor as well. I hate leaving cleaning solution on floors because they tend to get sticky later. I haven’t tried it on area rugs yet, but I got a couple that could use some attention! Keeping my fingers crossed. 😊

    This was a GREAT review. Straight, clear and direct to what is needed. Thanks! However, in future reviews it will be good to include certain things that were left unanswered and that can make a difference. For example: #1 - brief suggestion as to the type of cleaning solution that can be used would be good. It was mentioned that we can make our own cleaning solution but does not specify what to avoid when doing so as to not damage the unit. If any cleaning solution used today to clean my floor works, then great, but being a machine may require specific mix. #2 - a review that includes a comparison with similar leading units will be awesome so as to know what is best in each and make an informed decision when comparing. Or links in the video for other reviews made separately will also work. Thanks and keep up the good job!

    Thanks very much! To answer your follow up suggestions / questions: 1) I would only recommend using the Bissell cleaning solutions designed for the Crosswave. Anything else will void your warranty. While we made and used our own vinegar based solutions without issue, I have heard that some users damaged their machine with their own formulations. As such, I just don't think it's working risking it. Just buy and use the Bissell cleaning solutions. 2) While we don't have any comparison videos yet (those are in the works), we do have contextual comparisons, including these: moderncastle.com/best-mop/bissell-crosswave-vs-symphony/ moderncastle.com/best-mop/bissell-crosswave-vs-hoover-floormate/

    Im so glad I found this reveiw. However Im concerned as to how well it did with kitty litter. I have cats and the liter gets EVERYWHERE. Did it have any caking or clogging issues?

  • @ModernCastle

    @ModernCastle

    3 жыл бұрын

    You can see more specifics on the kitty litter tests here - moderncastle.com/best-mop/bissell-crosswave-review/ But to sum it up, Crosswave had no issues with the kitty litter. However, it should be noted that we used the dry vacuum settings for the kitty litter. If you're able, I would suggest dry vacuuming up large debris first, and then moving to the wet mop settings. Even so, I don't think it would have trouble with kitty litter whether you were wet or dry mopping. We ran a huge amount of debris through the machine and it did not clog once.

    Just got one of these cleaners and it seems to work well on my vinyl kitchen floor and hardwoods in my living room. I have no carpets to worry about. The gunk in the dirty water looked very impressive. It really did well even on large debris like pet food kibble. I used it with Mr. Clean for Pets and had no trouble. My main concern is sanitizing after use because that dirty water was just horrible-looking. Ended up pouring some disinfectant on the floor and using the machine to suck it up into the whole dirty water system. We'll see how that works.

  • @ModernCastle

    Your Crosswave should have included a cleaning tray. You can use that next time instead of having to dump the disinfectant on the floor. That will clean the brushroll and interior parts.

    How long did it take the area rug to dry after washing it? I am really in need of a rug shampooer but wanting something smaller and most others I see are so large. I have an entirely hardwood floor house with lots of area rugs so thought this could be the perfect addition to tackle all the floors. But for the area rug I just want to know how long it leaves the carpet wet and also if you think this is a good purchase mainly for the area rug shampoo aspect? Thanks!

  • @ModernCastle

    I purchased a Bissell Crosswave in 2018. I live on a lake and have porcelain tile floors on the main level of my home, and vacuum almost everyday. The vacuum worked alright at first, but then as time has gone by I have found a few things that I am not happy with. First I have noticed that the suction is not as powerful as it was when I first got it. Second, It has never been a good edge cleaner, always have to use the broom first to get the dirt away from the edges. Third, you always have to clean the container and brushes after every vacuum or washing of the floors which is time consuming. So in my opinion and conclusion I guess it is ok if you only vacuum or wash your floors once in a while. But not if you clean more often.

    I "think" the answer is yes, but I'm not 100% certain. According to Bissell's website the Crosswave Max can be used on: Carpet and Rugs, Low Pile Carpet, Carpet, Area Rugs, Bare Floors, Hard Floors, Sealed Wood Floors However, the product page on Amazon says it's only for: Safe and effective on tile, sealed wood floors, laminate, linoleum, rubber floor mats, pressed wood floors, and more. It even refreshes area rugs! Here's a link to the Crosswave Max for anyone looking for it - amzn.to/3d9LH6u

  • @ModernCastle

    @ModernCastle

    I would say it depends on the vacuum and steam mop. If it's something like a Dyson V-series vacuum with a soft roller brush + equally high-end steam mop, then yeah...vacuum + steam is probably better than Crosswave. If it's a more traditional / typical vacuum with a more typical steam mop, then the Crosswave is going to performer better.

    I'm so torn on whether to buy this or not! I do like the idea of one device to vacuum AND mop, but the problem is I rent, so I have no control over surfaces in my home. My place now is all hard surfaces, but I also plan to move in a year, and I might be stuck with carpets again. But I haven't had a vacuum in 2 years at least since my last one was ruined, so I really don't want to wait until I move to buy a new one! What's your opinion?

  • @ModernCastle

    @ModernCastle

    4 жыл бұрын

    If you're not sure what your long term carpet / hardwood situation is going to be I would suggest a more traditional vacuum cleaner. A vacuum will work on hardwoods and carpets. Crosswave is really best if you've got lots of hard surfaces (and it is not for carpet). Perhaps consider a Dyson V10 Absolute, as that gives you lots of options with the multi surface brushroll and soft roller brush (for hard surfaces).

Spray the floor SPARINGLY with Dawn Platinum Powerwash (I love that stuff). Walk around with cleaning rags on feet to not get footprints on the floor. Unfortunately, no. There is no "scrub only" mode. It's different in that it is both a vacuum and a wet mop. It has a soft brushroll that water + cleaning solution is injected onto. • @ModernCastle

    @ModernCastle

    3 жыл бұрын

    @@imrepetrohai Oh you're not argumentative at all. That is indeed very confusing and maybe even misleading on the part of Bissell. On Bissel's website this is what they say on the Crosswave page: "The CrossWave® is safe for tile, sealed wood floors, laminate, linoleum, rubber floor mats, pressed wood floors, area rugs, and more." Carpets are left out, while rugs are left in. In this case, I think the definition of the a "rug" is a carpet that you can lift off the ground. "Carpet" is nailed down with a pad underneath. That under-pad on the carpet is the problem. This machine just doesn't have the power to pull all of the water out of those pads. So if you use it on a nailed down carpet it's not going to fully dry and you're going to create mold. For these reasons it's not recommended for carpet. You can use it on a rug because there is no pad and you can move it to a suitable area to dry in the event it's excessively wet. Hope that helps clear it up.
