This is not a charge. This herd is migrating from one grazing area to another and the man made road was paved in their path. A beautiful sight to see the herd is growing.

I have been on this road and sat through the same thing... we stayed at the north entrance to Yellowstone and every morning would go into the park. This large herd crossed every morning from the west side of the road to the east. We spent the day in the park and then every evening got stopped by the same herd crossing from the east side of the road to the west. They come very close to the cars. I have a great pic of my entire side passenger window filled with the shoulder of a buffalo. I could have reached out to touch it, if I had been stupid...

@@dawnegan3984 I don't know about Yellowstone, but in Custer State Park in South Dakota, they have a good idea of how many bison can be supported by the park, and they try to keep the herd to around that size. If there are too many bison, then there's not enough to eat. I think they eat something like 32 pounds (14.5 kilos) of food/day. Unfortunately for the bison, they are tasty as well as magnificent. I eat the meat of cows, pigs, and chickens, so I see no reason not to eat bison as well.

Been in traffic jams where they threaded in between cars nonchalantly, but this large herd is great. In Sept. they should be heading for lower altitude, but these are heading up to Silver Gate.Maybe they turn off before reaching Beartooth Pass which is above timberline.

While in Custer Park in S Dakota we left a chuck wagon dinner at a 'ranch'. 7ish, we were pretty much alone on the road. We were stopped and surrounded twice by herds, it was magnificent, rubbing ups against our car! Of course, my cam was in the back of the car. My husband hates bison. I love them.

I hate to say this but they all looked so darn tasty. I don't know if anyone has had buffalo before but it is so good. Shocking, not as good as Moose but delicious none the less. It would be so easy to set up a trap and just grab one of the youngsters when it was going by before its mum even knew what happened. Then just drive off casually and that's like a weeks worth of meat.

Once I was hiking and saw few Bisons in the open, so I got up close to 40m as national park suggested, and bisons got panic, started running in circle surround me. and there're not few, more and more coming out of forest, following the swarm of panic, I felt the ground trembling. There were hundreds circling me. Some young male stopped panic, and started kicking their feet, like they're going to charge. Fuck me. I stand still, and walk back super slowly try not to walk into direction where there's cub. Finally they moved on, and I saw a sign in the open area, It said '1. in mating season, keep 200m distance. 2. don't stand in the open'. and they didn't have this info on brochure, must be insider joke. But I'm proud of myself for not peeing in my pants.

I'm pretty sure the guy was in a car. I had the same happen in South Dakota. I'm driving along and here comes a herd of buffalo. Not as large as this but still large. They decided to setup camp around the car. I had to slowly ease my way through the herd. Lucky for me they were in a good mood and no bits of car was taken as a trophy by the herd. But the first thing that came to mind was: Um, I didn't think to look up what to do if surrounded by buffalo.

+FallaciousScotsman Of course, they don't. The European bison aka Wisent is extinct on Britain for a few centuries now. People keep railing on conservation in Africa, but even the suggestion of bringing a few back to most parts of Europe draw huge protestations from Europeans. fucking hypocrites. Europeans think poachers are bad and deserved to be killed because they kill for money, but conservation to save a wild species back in their homeland that will actually costs them a few dollars and safety? Nope, not going to do it. lmao, fuck the euros
