I couldn't imagine a badly broken ankle that ended my job, put my household in a financial crisis, caused me all types of unspeakable physical pain & multiple surgeries. Never knew this man personally, never saw him in concert, never saw him in person, but I have loved him since I was in 8th grade singing "Be Grateful" in the Merrill Avenue Baptist Youth Church choir. And I miss him!

I was also there for this salute to Bishop Walter Hawkins!! I had always been a great fan of the entire Hawkins Family, but this song, on this night re-claimed my heart and I was transformed. Thank you Bishop Hawkins. May your sleep be restful. You work was not in vain!

Then, I destroyed my ankle. Hospitalized, not allowed to travel, not able to drive or do anything, much, for myself. My mom came to Cali to assist my return to the east coast. The last and one of the only going out requests that she honored was to take me to church before we left. Bishop prayed for me. But, it is the prayer that still stands out in my mind. He prayed that I have a PEACE that all things were just as they should be according to the WILL of GOD. How peculiar, I remember thinking.

I am so very thankful to had have the God given opportunity to actually meet and talk to this phenominal vessel of God. I along with some of my choir members have opened up for him in Detroit a few times, in addition to backing him up in concert in Detroit and even having the chance to sing Marvelous with him. So let not your heart be troubled. "Marvelous" was one of my most favorite songs,for it always spoke to my heart and ministerd to me. R.I.P. Simply "Marvellous", as I sit here with tears streaming down my face. My previous choir director formed a singing group with us, the "Gospelaires" back in the 80's, and we sang I'm sure every song that Walter Hawkins wrote. My heart ached when he made his transition.

This is really a blessing and it courages me....to know he was dying but there was still a MARVELOUS PRAISE on the inside. Take your rest Bishop...Job Well Done...

In memory of my west coast Bishop, to his family, his spiritual family, the ministerial staff, and beloved friends. God bless you Bishop. ibroke my ankle 10 years ago in San Fran while working out there. i had found and attended Bishop's services - each Saturday night, I'd rent a car to go to church on Sunday and immediately return the car afterwards. I'm sure my client didn't know what to make of THAT business expense. But, hey, my God comes first and all other things fall in behind HIM!

I can truly say that Bishop Hawkins was and forever will be one of my Favorites. RIP BISHOP!! There can never be another Leading the heavenly Choir with all the other greats James Cleveland, Albertina Walker, John McBride and many others. Sing on Children!!
