I work as part of the waitstaff at a restaurant and I can't even sing happy birthday to someone because most look so uncomfortable, as uncomfortable as I am to be standing there singing to them. I always pretend I'm busy so that I don't have to go over to the table with all the other available staff.

Mine is early December and this still happened to me. My brother's January birthday is actually closer to Christmas, but everyone has already moved on from Christmas by the time January comes around. My bf's birthday is December 26th. He says he likes it. I think he might be crazy.

I wish I knew who it was that started this whole idea of the wait staff singing the birthday song at restaurants. The whole thing is ludicrous - The staff doesn't like doing it and the recipient hates the embarrassment. Just give me my free dessert and leave me alone!

When I was in high school there was an ice cream parlor near us who had this elaborate thing for birthdays. They would sound a siren, wheel this HUGE gong over to the table, present the birthday person with a sundae featuring a scoop of every ice cream and topping they had, and finish singing Happy Birthday by striking the gong. It was obnoxious and priceless all at once 🤣. If we could pool enough money to pay for the birthday sundae we'd tell them it was one of our birthdays just for the spectacle!

I always feel so sad for you guys. I'm a January baby & we usually get screwed somehow too. We get the "everybody is too exhausted from the holidays" nonsense. Whenever anybody says "This is your Christmas AND birthday present" to me I say really sarcastically "Oh yay, another Chrismirthday present... thanks."
