What was the purpose of the vertical pencil line for the angle of the rafter when? Im a novice to this. The birds mouth measurement really helps, but how do i get the angle measurement or line up towards the peak of the roof?

The vertical line is the angle cut line for the top. You cut on the horizontal and vertical lines. Here is a link to where I do the cuts, look around the 7 minute mark in the video. kzread.info/dash/bejne/k3WqybqDZ7vWgaw.htmlsi=VRodxGcDKyk1l-F4 The more accurate the cut the better it will fit.
