Birding & Wildlife Photography vlog Aberdeen, Scotland
Ойын-сауық
Enjoyed a relaxing morning of birding and wildlife photography just south of Aberdeen, Scotland in this week's photography vlog. I was hoping to spot some rarities that had been seen the day before, but no such luck. Oh well, had a fantastic day anyway, I'll try again some other day.

Nice video Espen, it’s a shame you didn’t get to see any rare ones, but lovely to see the more common resident birds:-) loved the bit of seal footage and the shot with the ship in, nice effect. I clocked another 5 hrs in the bag hide today waiting for the resident kestrel to turn up, that’s 20hrs down with only a Stonechat to show for my efforts, lol.. did see a Marsh & Hen Harrier at distance which was a treat. Great work as always. Regards R :-) 👍

20 hours! Good effort, it'll pay off in the end :)
Another wonderful video Espen. Can I suggest something - can you compile a list of birding spots you've visited alongwith good times to visit and what can be seen at those spots? All the best my friend.
All the images from the day with camera settings can be seen at the end of the video 📷
nice video. Looking forward to seeing more of your videos

Hi Espen, sorry you didn't get to find any of the rarities this time . Grouping the images at the end of the video with the settings is a good addition .

Cheers John! I’ll aim to add that from now on 👍
Aberdream! Such an incredible place for wildlife. Girdleness/the battery is (or was, been years since I have been up there) a Hotspot for dolphins too. The links golf course is worth a visit too. I got to within 1.5m of a red fox there many years ago (it knew I was there actually lay down and napped with me sitting there), and for a while that was a Hotspot for shorties too. Got one of my personal favourite photos there, with Pittodrie in the background and a shortie flying across. The NE Scotland wildlife Facebook group is an excellent place for info of what's around, and will let you see if the waxwings are about at appropriate times etc. (or if you prefer the more old fashioned forums, there is (was? Again, been a while) a very active thread on the good old birdforum.net. The main thread which focused on girdleness was called 'birds fae torry,') Anyway, I now want to go back to Aberdeen. If stir craziness in semi lockdown hadn't been bad enough 😂
I enjoy watching your vids. Try the Collins bird guide app. Saves carrying a book around has everything in it. Looks like my trip to Scotland in November will not be going a head the rule of 6☹️.

I have that too, I just enjoy flicking through a real book every now and then 🙂 that’s a shame about your trip, plan something big for next year instead.
Another masterpiece 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻. Your videos have got my feet itchy? I might head over to my park this week and see what wildlife I catch. Always good to see settings too. I’ve got a question for you.....Have you stopped using canon ? Cheers

Hi Espen, enjoyable vlog - pity you didn’t find any migrant passerines but hey-ho that’s the way it goes sometimes. I think the seals are Grey seals as evidenced by their large ‘Roman’ noses. Ron😊👍

Thanks Ron! I was looking at the identification online for a while and eventually settled for common as the grey seal nose looked even more extreme. You may be right though.

Espen Helland Yeh, they’re Grey seals. The Common seal, which is actually relatively uncommon, has a much more dainty concave head whereas the Grey is flattish and long with as I said a Roman nose profile.
Great video once again, but this one was special for me as I’m originally from Aberdeen . I knew the area well when there was a small Puffin colony on the cliffs and some Short-eared owls on the golf course, too. However, that was 40 years ago. 😀 Thanks for sharing your pleasure. insta - @sgrphotography

Glad you enjoyed it, a shame we don't see those species there now!
Great video Espen, those goldfinch are really stunning! Have you done something with your audio? 🤔👍
@EspenHelland
3 жыл бұрын
Thanks Andy! I’ve been thinking the same thing about the audio. May have been when I setup the Olympus that I tried using a built in filter for wind noise, I’ve turned all that off now and will test it out before the next video.

@@EspenHelland then I wasn't off, your voice sounded much higher then usually 🤪 hope you get it right on the next one :)
Heh if we met up, might let you use my 600 f4 mk2 for awhile. :)
Loved the video...as always another great one. When did you switch to the M1X? Why not the M1 iii?
@EspenHelland
3 жыл бұрын
Thank you! It was a close one, got some insight from someone who has both and I remembered really enjoying the em1x when I borrowed it from Olympus. Sometimes I wish I had the smaller em1iii, but the x holds really nice in my hand and it makes me shoot portrait more often.

Yeah, backup and I vlog with it at the moment. Maybe I’ll trade it for the em1iii at some point.

Oh not your fault Espen, i just really enjoy what you do, I know I am watching for free but KZread seem to have change their policy and put more adverts into very popular Vlogs. No more moans from me.
