Birding in Dandeli Karnataka. With the new Nikon Z6ii +Nikon 200-500mm. @The Old Magazine House..

I tried out my new mirrorless camera body the Nikon Z6ii at the OLD MAGAZINE HOUSE Ganeshgudi Dandeli. Dandeli is a famous birding spot in south India that hosts quite a few endemic species of birds. This is a first impression video of the Nikon z6ii and a birding extravaganza....

    Excellant capture and an enjoyable shoot. I can understand how much effort and time you would have put in. I am planning a trip. Mid February will be ok? I have Z6 2 with FTZ and Nikon 300 PF F4.0 lens. with Nikon 1.4 TC iii latest version. Should I have to use only 200-500 mm? Please advice. Thanks

    Thankyou for your kind words.. Winter season would be better for birding as you could see maximum number of species. But in different season you would se different species like the heart spotted woodpecker could be spotted in summer months. You can visit any time between Nov to March. Try to stay atleast 3 nights at the old magazine house, you will get to see most of the birds ..

    Some great clips of really cool birds. Do you know why they force the birds to bathe in bowls? Some type of water feature, like a bubbler or recirculating stream, might make the shots even better.

    In af area mode you can try wide area AF or single point Af. Auto area AF may cause some issue as in this case camera might try to focus on background or foreground subject. For precise focussing use single point Af. In focus mode choose af continuous. This is the basic setting that I use..

    Would it be fair to say that the Z6II is pretty close to Sony A7R/III or Canon R6 in terms of wild life photography ? I wonder why is the Z6 II put down so much on some of the other channels for its lack of AF capability.

  • @soumyajitmistry

    @soumyajitmistry

    2 жыл бұрын

    It would be wrong to make any such statement for me. I have not used any sony or canon gears to compare with the z6ii. I was using an entry level nikon dslr, the z6ii is a way better performer. The only problem that I faced with the Mirrorless camera is, once it grabs focus on the background it ignores anything in the foreground and I had to use the manual focus ring to tell the camera to focus on to the foreground subject. I am only using the z6ii for couple of weeks now, not totally sure about what setting works the best. It could very well be a minor change in the menu settings to fix the issue.

    Great video! Could you say something about the speed of auto-focus with FTZ adapter and Nikon 200-500 mm lens with the Z6 ii? Is it slower than a DSLR eg.D850? Do you have to switch back and forth between picture and video mode for recording videos, or can you just start recording by pressing the record button? Once again, excellent capture! Thanks, Ganesh.

  • @soumyajitmistry

    @soumyajitmistry

    2 жыл бұрын

    Autofocus speed is slower than any dslr with or without the FTZ if your subject is small and dynamic like a bird. For larger stationary subject speed doesn't matter. There is a single toggle switch between photo and video which doesn't seem to be much of a problem, but the advantage is that you can keep diffrent settings saved for photo and video. The stabilization on the Mirrorless is way better for videos. If you mostly soot still images dslr would be a better choice.

    Excellent videos! Wasn't the reach of 200-500 lens short considering Z6ii is a full frame camera? Did you set it to crop mode?

  • @soumyajitmistry

    The crop mode is always an option, but never felt that the reach is short, I try to wait at a good spot for birds to appear rather than chasing, helps me get close to my subject.

    Excellent videography 👌 Actually i am going to upgrade from my 9 year old Canon 600D. I was thinking about upgrading to Nikon D500 + Nikkor 200-500. Meanwhile i am also thinking about going for z6ii. I saw some reviews which criticised z6ii's auto focus system while photographing fast moving birds. So how was your experience about the photography. Which camera you were using before z6ii?

  • @soumyajitmistry

    @soumyajitmistry

    2 жыл бұрын

    I chose the Mirrorless camera for making videos, if you are going to focus mainly on still photography D500 would be a better choice in term of autofocus speed, because what I experienced is that the z6ii sticks to the background once misfocused and refuses to get back to the subject . So you have to use the manual focus ring to regain focus on your subject, which takes time. I was using an entry level dslr D3300 so z6ii feels way faster than that. Nikon d500 and 200-500 mm is a great combination for still photography. If you are not into shooting videos you can go for that combination.
