This is by far the best looking frame of the series
Oh I know all about Bird... I got two of 'em; a Zero 29 and an AM9 full susser, both in large 😁 Birds as a rule do come up quite long and slack compared to most other manufacturers... if you're not expecting it, they do feel big in comparison. And yeah, clearances... designed with British winter slop in mind lol

He was saying that Bird zero's owners find the frame stiff.. would you agree with that or do you find it more supple like our friend here ? I like the zero29 and the Ragley Big Al, and i'm bad when it comes to make choices 😅
Never heard of them but Bird looks nicest and seems to accommodate my riding style best. Great job with the series Evan!! You're smart for continually reinvesting into your channel and thinking long term instead of this month. I'd do some top 10 lists and product reviews here and there, just cause the algorithm. Been done but lotta older videos from Seth and Phil could use a refresh, and good to mix in to reach a wider demographic.
I’m from Hampshire UK and learned to ride at Swinley where bird was born, love to see you trying some British bikes, our hardtail game is the best!
The bike that i have had for longest is by far my Bird zero! 6 years and still love it! I hate that UK is no longer in the EU. If they where, then all my bikes would be Birds❤️🦜
I saw at least one comment saying you should collaborate with Hardtail Party to go over the geo numbers vs the feel. I feel like you know enough to know what you’re talking about, but are more of an Everyman, and Steve is a total guru who sometimes gets in over my head, so having his knowledge and your descriptions could really help people understand how geo numbers relate to bike fit in a relatable way
I was so excited to see the Bird! We got a frame off of eBay for my wife, and even though medium long is too big for her, and a little too small for me, the frame absolutely rips. I have never felt under-gunned with this bike. I think you nailed the strengths and weaknesses of the bike really well. It attacks singletrack and struggles with climbs. The whole series has been so fun to watch! Great job.
Appreciate your hard work on this hard tail comparison Evan. I went with the Nukeproof scout 290 ellite build with the fox 36 fork and shimano slx for all the other components when it was on sale for $1599 couldn't be happier. Thanks again ! David

Oh yeah man I saw that up for sale. Super good value! Can't believe they were charging $3000 for that build before. Congrats on the new bike!
This series was fantastic, I could watch these over and over again. Well done!! Loved how you brought all the frames back out to get on camera one last time!!

Thanks dude! I liked that call back too. This was my favorite series I've done by far
Season 2 with steel hard tails is gonna be a game changer. Steel is real! Esker Japhy and Kona Honzo esd are a must
Awesome series Evan! I wish there would be more of these.. 🙏
Thank you so much for this series Evan; I had a blast watching it 👍
Great series! Loved it. That Bird Zero looked amazing.
I loved this frame. A pity that probably Bird will not come to Brazil. Not only her, but many of these brands are not easily found around here. But even so, I wrote it down here for a possible future purchase. This series was really cool. Congratulations on the content.
Such a great series, very fun and insightful to watch, thank you! Would absolutely love to see a similar series maybe with full sus enduro bikes/am bikes/trail bikes, if possible.
That’s a great looking bike, I’ve really enjoyed this series thanks for doing it!
Cheers for your review , really enjoyed this. I'm in the UK and have been trying to decide between the scout and the zero, so was stoked to see the zero next, I think this as helped, plus the price is pretty good and quite similar on both bikes at the moment. Cheers for the awesome series.

@@EvansMTBSaga Thanks for getting in touch with me. I suppose I'm going down a similar route to you, I've been collecting parts for a while so can spec it with the right stuff that works for me, thanks for the vids really enjoyed and gave different perspective. Cheers Ben m
This was a great series. Well done! More plz!
I ride a very similar bike, the On One Hello Dave. It’s a true hardcore hard tail! Full steel frame (which is beautiful), 29” wheels, 62* head tube angel, but a nice steep seat tube which at 77* makes the bike good at climbing that tec and 150mm travel. It’s a beast!
Bird actually makes really good bikes. My friend has a Bird Aeris 9 and he can fully send it with no worry of snapping the frame. One of the most underrated bike brands out there imo
Awesome series! Keep them coming! I wonder how the ranking would end up separating looks, build and fit from the pure performance scores, which is what matters in the end. Great videos anyways!
We have 2 of these Zero's in 27.5 and they are awesome bikes, Reccommend these as they will go down a LOT of Tech decents.
Great work, we need to see fat bike series for the winter. You gotta get through the snow better than last year.
Cool the bird won. They have an all mountain carbon 160mm travel bike in the pipeline that looks like an interesting attempt at a quiver killer.
Bird frame on BERD spokes! What a coincidence
Great series, I would love a deep dive into the components you used. Which you'd keep and which you'd consider swapping out
im gonna miss this series definitely my favortie one so far its close to high vs low though love your content Evan!!
This ha been a brilliant series, thanks. I’d love to see you try the honzo esd and the on one hello Dave. Thanks for all these videos mate 👍🏻
Awesome series really enjoy it
I was on vacation when this video dropped. Finally I'm home and get the see it!! I have high hopes for this bike.
This is the best series so far. I really enjoy it! Also, can you try Dartmoor Primal 29?
This is my favorite mtb yt channel and also can you go to a ski lift bike park on what ever hardtail wins.
oh, nice. I also have a bird, same colour(raw aluminium) but its a aether 9(the full sus trail model) same size, feels very good!
Evans MTB Saga is top tier MTB content.
Very fun series
The Bird looks sweet. Love the raw look. Great price too. I wish they had barrel nuts in the post mount, like Nicolai does. But most brands don't have it.
Congrats on your new hardtail
Bird Bikes are fantastic, had a Aether 7 and loved it. They also have great customer service, excellent warranty and can’t do enough for you!
My favorite series!!
I'm kinda sad this is the end but i can understand it, thanks for this series !
Great season! I'd be interested in your thoughts on living in Bentonville

@EvansMTBSaga This is my current HT and the third HT from Bird. I had the mk.1 Zero 29 and the mk.2 has better finish, better seated geo and it's just about one of the best bikes that i've ever ridden HT and FS. I've been riding F:2.5" - R:2.4" tires on it but putting on 2.6" F and R turns this bike into a beast if you like more rooty and rocky natural trails
Nice trail brother
I love that stainless steele look. Looks so rad.
I loved this series and I can’t wait to see what is next maybe you could try out a downhill bike at a big bike park since you’ve never done that I think 😁
Sick company, gorgeus raw alloy frames, steel HTs, trail and enduro FS bikes. You can get custom parts spec. Good warranty too.
I really loved this series.
Best Hardtail for sure is the Mullet Cycles Honeymaker!!!
Thanks Evan. I enjoyed watching all these. I was hoping you would try a steel or titanium frame. I definitely think the bird wins on looks
Hahaha that laugh when you said I like nice parts.
I had one of them bird hard tails in 2016 when they came out. So good.
Great series hopefully next series we can see a chameleon and Kona honzo ESD!
Great episodes. Love the hardtails. Now it's time to mod that Byrd! Gonna get me those titanium bolts.
@ifitrollsrideit530
6 ай бұрын
Careful with that, titanium bolts in an aluminium frame will cause some degree of corrosion of the frame. Probably just in the threads where they contact but could be anywhere you get a scratch.
Loved this series Evan great job! And since you made it clear it was season one will season 2 be carbon hardtails?

Plastic bikes suck!🤮
I've never heard of the brand but I think it looks the best.
Looks like the best quality bike out of the bunch. The issue with the slack seat tube is it increases the top tube length while seated so then you need the shorter stem. Longer in the saddle can make steep climbing difficult and the slack front end with the short stem likely doesn’t help climbing either.
Great video. I sure hope you used Ti-Prep on those titanium threads.

Orbea Laufey and Kona Honzo on season 2😂😅, btw i have watched all of your videos and they’re great!! I have been around since 30 k subscribers and I’m proud of you! I’m also a 100% on team Scout, can’t wait for that
for season 2, i have to say you should try the ribble ht 725, they are great bikes in all materials and it would be good to give some love to them
Looks beautiful
Have you installed the PNW Coast Dropper? It has 40mm of air suspension. It was made for a hard tail. This dropper saved my lower back.
seen quite a few bird bikes here in the UK, but mostly their gravel range only ever seen one mtb on local trails
You've gone this far, you should continue the series and become the new hardtail aficionado.
Only available in the UK... Always great reviews and great price
Sick hardtail frame, you should try a on-one hello dave frame in the next series!
it's a lot of work to transfer all the spare parts from one bike to another frame while still taking everything beautifully on camera
This series was great. Personally not interested in hardtail MTBs, I believe the perfect setup for me is a 26" dirt jumper, a 27.5" full-squish trail bike, and a 27.5" full-squish Enduro bike. I already have a dirt jumper and trail bike, just need to get an Enduro eventually. Not interested in 29'ers at all. However, its still interesting to watch and I'm looking forward to season 2 and other series you have planned.
I hope you can test out the Rurok Kanlaon frame or even some budget hardtail frame from Speedone.
Last hard tail I rode was a Marin St Quinton (I think). Wasn't too impressed with the whole hardtail thing after riding full squish. Just decided to give it another shot after watching this video. Slaughter pen is fun! I usually start out by the red barn down Tristan... Rode Hobbs last week 🥵 still too hot. Keep the videos coming. Waltons Rule!

You mean San Quentin?
Bird makes great bikes. I barely chose the new Honzo ST for my build over the Bird Forge(both steel). The Birds HT angle would have been overkill for my riding for where I live.
I would love it if I’m next season you would try the Devinci Kobain
Love that “secret” trail😂 its pretty fun going downhill too!
@EvansMTBSaga
10 ай бұрын
Yeah I can't believe all the work they did on stacking those rocks for such a tech climb, only for it to be a secret trail
Bird is the word😂 Maybe the seattube angle is their way to compensate that ht angle a little bit.
Interested for season 2 mate.
Pls do the Mérida Big trail !! ;) ;)
i would love if you did the orbea loffy h 10 thank you so much
I’m old, so not a fan of hard tails anymore lol. Love me sum slack head tube. I like a long bike. Titanium fasteners are sweet. I like little things like that. They feel and look high end….Premium! Good video
Evan please line up something for a video with a bike from Kona’s Honzo line. Love the shape and geometry.
Can't wait for season 2 and I hope you try out the Chameleon, very curious about your thoughts on that bike
Love the raw aluminum look
Best series ever! Awesome stuff. I do have a question, with the seat tube on the Bird not ideal for you are you willing to over look that to make it your go to hard tail? With climbing a big part of the experience I’d have a hard time making that decision lol.
@EvansMTBSaga
10 ай бұрын
Yeah I'm definitely willing to overlook that. Maybe some bars with more back sweep will help. It's super comfortable grinding out the miles, climbs aren't too long here. Still going to back to back test it against the Scout though
Did you check what fork offset all the bikes recommended/required, compared to the fork you used?
Try the Dartmoor hartails, probably the Hornet Pro with the cool looking tubing.
I think this is the perfect frame for me. Need the M.
Sweet bike. Not sure if you mentioned price of frame?
To fix the slack seat tube put the seat forward that may help a Little
Yes he has seen the light Bike angle Numbers can be misleading and the Bird has shown Evan the way to Number 1 I enjoy this Series.
Can you do the same series on gravel bikes?
Better bolts is a great company and they have unique bolts that you can’t really find anywhere. Sure Amazon has bolts but side 2 side comparison shows the big difference in quality control and other things like Amazon vendors having you purchase a set of 4 bolts and they don’t include washers. As for that aluminum frame, I don’t like raw finish but the STA doesn’t seem like an issue. I don’t see the need for crazy steep STA on hardtail’s since climbing up trails is always easier on a hardtail anyway. The bigger issue with climbing a hardtail is those really slack HTA that sag and are so long that you can’t control the direction as well. But you adapt if that bike is great on the steep downhill through chunk.
Difference in the dropout shown on Bird's website is due to the old hanger (pre-UDH) being shown. It's a recent change.

Good to know! I like the new version better
Hey Evan - local rider here. Your production’s looking smooth as ever, and kudos for maintaining those production values through self-filming. I also appreciate that you have embraced that hardtail life thing; that’s a great way for riders to get a lot of bike for a little money. I even appreciate why you’ve snubbed steel rides as Steve at Hardtail Party has that covered. I’d like to see you roll a Mullet Honeymaker AL. Further, make sure you shout out to our local trailbuilders. We have other local KZreadrs who neglect those great folks; don’t be like them. And it’s okay to shout out to the local bike shops too - don’t be like that local Tuber who’s rapidly loosing clout because of their ego. I believe in your mission, and I am happy to share your channel with others, and by making a few tweaks, I feel like you’ll be able to expand your reach even more. Another thought: maybe you could use Handcut Hollow as a testing ground? See you on the trail, and see you at the Thunderdome Throwdown!

Thanks for the support. I'll test steel frames for next season! I commented on a Trailblazer's post asking if I could rake Medieval and make a video about it but they didn't respond. Do you know if anyone can show up and rake off the loose rocks?

@@EvansMTBSaga thanks again for looking into this. I dig our trails!
I'd try the bird with a 35mm stem and high rise bars
If you want to try another UK hardtail there's a company called Ribble Bikes. If I get a new bike I'd probably go for that, all UK made, steel or aluminium frame, and you can customise your build quite extensively (or just get a frame)
Finally you got a real modern geometry, i hope in the future you can try more european brands like Dartmoor, NS Bikes, Planet X etc.
raised reverse stem should be considered for the custom perfect frame.
I would love to see you review an Orange hardtail
You should try an On One Hello Dave or alternatively a Big Dog as well. 😅😎
Which peddles are you using?
