Thankyou enjoyed. With the migrations getting harder with the Skyscrapers, Windmills and less habitat to feed, Ships are a lifesaver. A Freind & I rescue songbirds that hit the glass skyscrapers in Newark NJ, TRT made a video named 'Window Strikes in the Business District' of us picking up injured Warblers. In Newark most of the birds that hit the glass skyscrapers perish on impact, or when fall to the cement pavement. The injured get a 2nd chance when we bring then to TRT. TRT vid minute 4:01 shows a paralyzed Flicker crying, that Flicker made full recovery.

I saw your video. You are doing a very good job there. It's heartbreaking indeed just the thought of a small song bird flying for so many miles avoiding raptors etc only to suddenly collide on a man made structure that was selfishly designed. Unfortunately some birds face similar dangers on a ship as some still hit on windows or are distracted by the lights at night especially during storms. Birds were migrating for thousands of years before the shipping industry took over the oceans. Ships do help tired birds but attract also others that would have normally cross the sea right away without having to deal with the extra dangers of a ship.

@@OdiFroilan Wow I did not consider that perhaps some birds attracted to ship they may have flown to their original destination. The more I know the more I want to know, thank you for sharing. Gracias.

This happens in every migration period and in every ship that happens to be passing through the migration paths at these moments. The vast majority of the birds will pass without stopping by. But most exhausted or confused birds will definitely use the ships as a temporary shelter.

@@OdiFroilan Migration period of birds? Or what do you mean?
@OdiFroilan
2 жыл бұрын
@@josh4779 Exactly. Outside of the migration periods and paths, you can pass many months at sea without seeing anything.
Osprey,Rusty tailed flycatcher, grey shrike, Siberian stonechat, peregrine falcon, owl, blue throat... Yellow tit, collared dove..... Excellent!
Amazing video!
Truly astounding video!! Couldn’t have been better !
Great compilation.. just awesome
Such a cool video! Awesome to see that a ship can help these exhausted birds so well. Did the poor coal tit still manage to recover or was it too exhausted?

After a couple of hours of being kept in a warm place in my cabin and provided with sugarwater, the coal tit finally managed to recover and was released the same day as the ship was approaching land at the Baltic Sea. I guess it must have had a window collision cause his belly seemed to have enough fat.

@@OdiFroilan Bless you
Excelente documentación. Gracias.

Great video. Makes me want to join the merchant navy!
Truly amazing video
That was wonderful, thank you.

Thank you for your kind words. It is more than a pleasure for me to observe the birds, sometimes help them during their difficult migration and also to share this pleasure with everyone that is interested in birds and do not have the opportunity to see this secret part of their lifes. The music is from the beautiful band called "Burning Hearts".

What diversity on a ship. Amazing!
It feels like a petrol station:))
Fantastic! Really interesting video. Do you keep bird lists and (approximate) locations? Such data could be really useful to analyse.

Thank you Duncan. I used to keep records but mostly to confirm the already existing data from shore based based ornitholigical researches for the main migration paths.

Are These are birds that are traveling across the ocean and just happen upon your vessel? Or are these birds that started the journey on the boat by accident? Great video & music.
@OdiFroilan

This happens in every migration period and in every ship that happens to be passing through the migration paths at these moments. The vast majority of the birds will pass without stopping by. But most exhausted or confused birds will definitely use the ships as a temporary shelter.
