Birch Carving Checking Info Spoons Spatula

While making a Black birch spatula the side of the spatula checked or cracked about a .5mm. The next half day day I put flaxseed oil on it. The next morning the check was for the most part gone. Initially the wood at the start was not green, but not dry either.
