BioWare’s Future, the Scary Truth

Ойындар

We've all witnessed the scary decline of BioWare. Once a respected RPG developer responsible for hits such as Baldur's Gate, Mass Effect and Dragon Age, BioWare finds itself in a dangerous situation due to their lackluster performances with Mass Effect Andromeda and Anthem. With the release date of Dragon Age Dreadwolf just around the corner and the next Mass Effect in preproduction, it's important to realize how important Dragon Age 4 will be to not only the franchise, but the future of BioWare itself.

Holy shit, KZread recommendations actually recommended a great video from a small creator on my front page. IDK what black magic YT is doing, but for once, it's doing a good job. Glad I found the vid, very informative.

I would love to say, "It will all be fine! The games will be amazing and start a whole new age of great games!" However, there has been a lot of upheaval. I do like that they're taking their time with DA4 post production and not rushing it out. I like that they did bring back some of the original Mass Effect team for ME4. There are some signs that, I feel, anyway, can give us a bit of hope, but they have a lot to prove and overcome so while hope springs eternal, it's all taken with a grain of salt, for the time being.

I feel you completely. I love BioWare, but the reality is that they aren't in their current situation for no reason. Hopefully they'll prove us wrong for doubting, but only time will tell. Thanks for watching Sorceress! Appreciate you :)

DAI disappointment really hurt me, mostly structurally - the game barely had physics in hair or clothing, the long loading screens, worst character creator to date, half-baked animations etc. I have avoided leaks for the new DA game except for the one guy jump-kicking an enemy. I hope 90% of the game won't be in the codex, they might as well make an audiobook if that is the case. I think if Bioware does not knock this out of the park, it might be a long while before they get DA greenlit again. Fingers crossed for good story, and PC performance.

That’s interesting! I personally enjoyed the character creation, though I do believe it lacked in terms of origin story mattering much. I feel like BioWare might cease to exist at all if they don’t make this shot count, so hopefully they figure their ish out. Appreciate you participating as always!

I don't know how old the average "active" gamer is. I'm not active anymore and who knows, another 10 years I might not even call myself a gamer. But if you're old enough, you'll notice the trend. Amazing companies are only amazing for a decade, with some tailwind of projects that were started in that decade, but took another 3-4 years to come out. If you've also worked in corporate, you'll understand. It's never the company, never ever. It's the people there that make it or break it. And the talented people, unless they have a share of the pie (C something. CTO, CEO, COO), they will not stick around for that much. 4-6 years, that's it. Some of the people that they trained will continue, another 4-6 years, but they will never be as good as the OGs. And after the second gen leave, it's all down hill from there. This happens to everyone. Blizzard, BioWare, CdProjket. Everyone. Even Bethesda, believe it or not, used to be a company that reliably produced great games. Now they're coasting on their only hit in a decade, for the past decade.

That's a fair point, though hey, Apple was almost bankrupt and they're the richest company in the world. The rules tend to play out the way they always do and I admire the realism from your take, I do however think that on rare occasions those rules may break so I give them their fair shot.

We lived long enough to see our Hero become the Villain. That is the story of Bioware and the fanbase.

Archetype! I'm excited for what they're working on. I agree with ya bioware definitely a mess right now. You'd think with the success of Mass Effect LE they'd see how much it matters to get it right.

Exactly! I feel like EA underestimates how much money players are willing to spend on a solid single-player experience. This whole “treating DA like FIFA” thing isn’t going to work, hopefully they realized that. Thanks for watching and sharing your thoughts!

Bioware used to be my favorite developer without a doubt. Now I cannot see a scenario where they release a great game again. They are basically just "EA Edmonton" now.

I try to stay positive just because we all know Dragon Age Dreadwolf is their last chance, but I don't blame you for losing hope. Andromeda and Anthem were... Rough. Hopefully the kinks they were working out with Frostbite are solved because if not... Oh boy. Thanks for watching Tallscreen! If you haven't seen my other videos about some RPGs like ME and BG3 feel free to take a look :)

Sadly, I think this could be the beginning of the end. You now have studios like OwlCat, Larian, Pazuzu(sp?), and even CDPR (who have turned around the terrible Cyberpunk launch), making great games. It seems as if the imagination of Bioware has left.

Im hoping its no the beginning of the end because.. as a huge dragon age fan.. im hopefully there will be a game after dreadwolf as some point. And while i could see dreadwolf being the last of the series, a mans gotta hope. But overall, I sadly could see it being the end of BioWare.. However, as the newer generation starts getting out into the world, they may get some really good hires that are gonna be important for their development as a company. So i really dont know

Regardless...I will wait for the new ME and DA games because I'm not such a Debbie-Downer with everything. Sure, Andromeda wasn't what I wanted initially, but I played it and enjoyed it (after the patches). It looks like we're going to get the Quarians and the Geth back (maybe working together...who knows?) Ali Hillis will be with us (pretty sure that's a given). It looks like there is exploration involved which a lot of RPG'ers love. I understand how purists just expect perfection all the time, but I'm prepared to just ride the wave and see where it ends up. I'm 64 bloody years old! Of course I want a great game! I might even be dead before the next instalment comes out. The new writers have a history of 'the chops', so I'm all in for that. OTOH - If you're depressed, don't be. Just carry on, and if we get a masterpiece from this, your joy will be heard, and then it's all been worth it ! My rant has ended...

Hi Scottie! Thanks for leaving your comment and giving my video a watch! I think the part that really bothers people in general is being misled, which is what a lot of gaming companies end up doing. Of course, I really hope it ends up being really good, but it may not be the case. Anyway! Glad you’re at least happy with what has come out!

With Bioware you kind of just need to hope that whatever they are making will actually turn out to be good because they reveal hardly anything about the projects they work on xD
