I'm glad that they're making mass effect 5. This franchise is definitely a beloved one

Hmm. That's fair. I think the cinematic trailers are great for showing a bit of the story, and they'll probably get more into that in the future. That's potentially why they went with some in-game footage rather than the alternative, maybe there's still some details to iron out or considering the layoffs they may want to utilize resources sparingly for now. My only problem with the "Shepard protagonist" theory is that they have to explain how Shepard is alive centuries after the end of ME3. Cryo-sleep? A bit of a lazy way to do it, in my opinion, but let's see how it turns out.

That's a pretty fair take, but imo you could technically say the same about them being brought from the dead in ME2. Like... It's a very outlandish concept but they pulled it off you know? I feel like if they play around with Shep being rebuilt and the now-introduced idea of cryosleep, it could work, but it would have to be well executed. For example, there would have to be a damn good reason they're in that situation to begin with. Thanks a lot for sharing dude, appreciate you watching and commenting :)

Well between the cerberus tech and the ludicrous cloning program for organ replacements (as funny as it was for the citadel dlc I'm still on the fence over it) then maybe but then what about the consciousness... well my theory (and I really hope I'm wrong on this) is that with shephards tech in his/her body from Lazarus mixed with some remnants of energy from the crucible forcing shepherds evolution into a new being that doesn't age (synthesis ending but Shepard chose destroy so the energy only effected Shepard). I know, it sounds fucking stupid which is why I hope I'm wrong but with the way games have been this past decade I wouldn't put it past them for putting something dumb like that as the explanation

oh god no I wish I can be hyped for ME again, but instead I'm just dreading how will Bunkware bungle it this time.

I don't think they're bringing back Shep. Everything we've seen so far indicates this story takes place at least a few hundred years after the events of Andromeda, which were ~600 years after the events of ME2. Liara is clearly a matriarch as well, and the capture artist has confirmed that she does indeed look older. We're at least 800 years post-Shep. That's well within the established lifespan for Asari - Liara was literally considered a child in ME1. They're going to involve Shep somehow. If I had to venture a guess......the "canon" Shep romance is going to be explained as having been with Liara. Liara mind melded him multiple times regardless of whether you romanced her or not in the original trilogy, which would allow the developers to avoid negating player romance choice from the first trilogy, if the player went with somebody else. It would still make sense. Canon Shep romanced Liara, but for players who chose otherwise...Liara still had an imprint. We don't know all that much about asari reproduction beyond they can do it with anyone of either sex. We don't know the timeline. I think it's entirely possible that Liara could have hung on to Shepard's imprint for all those centuries....and produced an asari offspring with half of Shep's genetics hundreds of years later, when the universe most needed it. Plenty of real-world animals are able to store sperm for extended periods of time and only reproduce when conditions are favorable or needed. I think that's why the apparent protagonist in this video was fully cloaked.....an asari is indistinguishable from a human if you cannot see their skin or face. It would also explain why the cloaked figure in the teaser appears to be female - all asari appear so. I think the protagonist of ME5 is the child of Liara and Shepard. Lending even more credence to the idea....Liara is the Shadow Broker, and the character in this teaser is very much engaged in cloak and dagger stuff.....her pistol has an obvious silencer, if you look at still shots. If Liara detected a threat and was able to produce an heir with some of Shep's abilities.....why not train "her" as an operative of the shadow broker? Shep's drive, Liara's resources.....can't really imagine a better protagonist.....

I mean this is all a pretty fair take on the situation. Due mostly to cryo, and the amount of subtle hints here and there I do think Shepard at the very least has SOMETHING to do with what's going on. I don't worry too much about the timeline because of Cryo. At the end of the day, Shepard is considered a hero and there's a lot of ways that can be implemented. But, the other side is also correct, and there could be a chance this is Shepard's kid. The thing that would surprise me is seeing an Asari as an N7. I mean maybe if it's a disguise? Idk. Anyway dude thanks for leaving your theories here, it was nice to read and I appreciate you taking the time to write it out and watch my video :)

@@Saintwolvinn Any time! Half of the fun is trying to figure out the hints the developers leave. Wouldn't it be cool if the next gameplay-development for ME5 was the introduction of stealth? They sort of tried, with the Citadel expansion....silenced pistol and all. Maybe the next game will allow a stealth or frontal assault option for every mission? It'd certainly fit, if the protagonist really was trained by the shadow broker. Wouldn't that be fun :)

If they reboot the franchise I'm gonna lose it. Like, I don't need the mass effect equivalent to brie larson coming into the MCU to "rethink" the story for a "modern audience". All I saw was a WAY more advanced looking N7 suit in a clearly femshep character model and I already get flashbacks to how ubisoft wants to "align splinter cell with modern audiences" for its reboot. Or like how starfield made every single companion non-binary or something, because they all hit on you constantly. Imagine if in mass effect 1, 2, and 3 didn't force you to choose your gender? Imagine how much different everyone would see the characters. Garrus? No more best bro ever. Everyone will just encounter the tough complicated love interest. Same with someone like Jack, is she wasn't lesbian, the story would feel SO different. All I saw was another corporation doing the most basic "modernising" of an IP ever, like everything disney touches. Here's the basics: make everything hyper techy, play the pronoun game, remove "insensitive content" (like how GTA producers said they won't make trans jokes in GTA 6 because "times have changed", or the mass effect legendary edition doing away with some camera angles), and remove any trace of a personality from every character ever, while making every woman unbeatable.

That's pretty fair tbh. To an extent I prefer Dragon Age Inquisition's approach to romance. Some people like twigs, some figs, and some both. If you pursue them they politely decline. They don't pursue you if you they aren't into that. I feel like that's a lot more realistic than EVERYONE liking you. Rockstar is a meme at this point though. Sure, snort snow and punch prostitutes but don't you DARE say anything about trans people 🤣. Hell I'm a lesbian, I've seen some pretty funny jokes out there but now everybody's offended over everything.

Few things. First: does this mean Andromeda is counted as the definitive 4th game because i was under the assumption of it being a stand-alone story Second: i personally wish theyd go a different route. I mean new story all together with none of the original cast being mentioned aside from being heroes because the entire original trilogy was about self insert and player choice. You were shepard and your choices impacted what was canon for the playthrough. The only thing that should be canon from the original trilogy is the destroy ending. Logically control is a better ending but it doesnt make sense for the characters despite how you play and the synthesis ending is just dumb "oh herp derp, im gunna be tyrnes into green techno space jizz and make every being in existence a organic synthetic hybrid herp derp" seriously that was dumb so really best course of action is destroy. The only other ending that could work as a set up for future installments is the rejection ending where everyone dies and liara's time capsules bring the next cycle to a state of readiness and the new species find a Lazarus cloning facility with 1 functioning stasis pod with a shepherd clone so Shepard leads these new species against the reapers and wins because their entire civilization has been preparing for it. So basically the shepard clone u play as is basically javic from me3 and the story ends. Its sounds unsatisfying but it makes sense in a grand plan situation and it solves the issue of "what happened to everyone else". The yahg and the other avian species (i forget their name but they basically nuked themselves to a pre spaceflight culture and were left alone by the reapers) would most likely be leading the mew galactic council. Third: with the destroy ending being canon its hard to believe anyone is going great distances wothout the mass relays so i bet its all taking place within one nebula or star cluster instead of exploring the entire milky-way cus how tf r ppl going anywhere. Fourth: i really hope they arent pushing fem shep for some kind of girl boss strong female character bs because i like fem shep but also male shep is just as cool so will they give any trailers for him to promote the game or have they already made said trailers and i havent seen them cus it just feels dumb to have all the marketing done for fem shep.... unless the marketing from games 1,2,&3 r male shep so this could symbolize a new shepard trilogy and all the marketing would be fem shep in 5,6,&7. Maybe, idfk. I havent kept up with mass effect since tgey canceled the single player dlc for Andromeda and left the quarians in the void. 1,2,&3 is where the last of my major investment was so hoping these new games bring back the old magic the classics had

Hey man! Thanks for writing this out. I agree with you in the sense that it can go A LOT of different ways if they're creative enough, though with destroy they'll probably be in a smaller space like you'd mentioned. At the end of the day, Shepard could've died at the end of ME2, so they've definitely chosen "canon" endings before. I personally think Destroy is the one that made the most sense based on Shepard's personality and the story. The thing is femshep IS an actual girl boss, not that fake forced crap that Disney is doing. She is a well-written strong female character. No "I'm independent and strong" bs, you can just tell. I don't see anything wrong with the marketing, the trilogy got maleshep, and tbh Jennifer Hale brought A LOT of life into femshep, I think that if that's the case it's fair for her character to get some of the spotlight too. @@Saintwolvinn like I said I like fem shep, Jennifer hale was incredible with the role and when I was saying I hope they didn't go "girl boss" route I meant Disney and Hollywood bs. Fem shep is like Ripley from the first alien movie meaning the true strong female protagonist and i just hope they dont ruin fem shep as we know her. Itd be nice if fem shep being the marketing focus was to signify a new trilogy since male shep was the poster child for the original trilogy. At this point I hope they don't kill the franchise again cus with the backlash of 3's ending then Andromeda being unfinished with tons of problems I'd hate to see my favorite rpg space scifi game franchise be shot like a rabid wounded dog. Seriously I'm still salty about the quarian dlc for Andromeda being canceled cus I was looking forward to quarian, drell, big stupid jellyfish, and maybe even Volus coming to the game with their own arc story missions
