It's supposed to be ironic. Bioshock is filled to the brim with ironic symbolism like that. Ryan's whole entire "No gods, no masters" thing is absolutely bullshit when you actually analyze it. He, along with every other rich individual in rapture, abused and exploited others. Ryan was literally trying to become a god and a master while advocating against those things. He wanted absolute power over others, no matter what.

"Looking for something to set me apart from a slave" that's a powerful line but it's true. Jack saved all the little sisters and that makes him more then a slave but a Angel and a man. Through out his life when he hears "Would You Kindly" he has to do what the person that ordered him wants. Him saving the little sisters was the ONLY time he was able to make a choice....A REAL choice. That choice then saved him at the end of the game as the little sisters helped killed fontanie and he helped them grow up....as a family. Father, Angel, and A man....he is definitely more then a slave.

It's meant to symbolize The Great Chain. Ryan named his city and its districts after gods and other holy things to show that all gods and kings are just creations of man and therefore just exist as constructs. It's to show how gods and kings wouldn't exist without man, hence "no gods or kings, only man" being his MO.

@ExtremelyOffensive Bioshock is filled to the brim with ironic symbolism like that. Ryan's whole entire "No gods, no masters" thing is absolutely bullshit if you actually analyze it. Ryan, along with every other rich individual in rapture, were literally trying to become gods, kings, and masters by intentionally creating an exploitative hierarchical society. It's the purest form of hypocrisy. They wanted absolute power over others, no matter what.

I wasn't even in the fandom and I liked this song, like damn. It still holds up even now

The Bioshock series is one of my favorite game series. I have played each game over 15 times and when my friend informed me that you made this song I swear my heart stopped in hope. I have listened to your Five Nights at Freddy songs and I loved them so I was so excited. This was better than I hoped. It was after listening to his 8 times that I jumped onto Amazon, where I got your other songs, and immediately bought the .mp3. Thanks man for this. It has to be one of my favorite video game based songs to date.

Its been *4 years* and the chorus still gives me chills

It's incredible just how relevant Bioshock is still today. In fact I would say Bioshock is even more relevant then it was back in 2007. Our society has become like Rapture. People are drugged up on insane ideologies, our world is flooding as ocean and Co2 levels rise and all the while those at the top preach about "self reliance" like its a damn religion.

I remember, when I was little.. my father was playing this game.. I was thrilled to always watch him play Bioshock. He is one of the best gamers I've seen. Now this Little Sister has taken after him in gaming. He always reminded me of a Big Daddy... him a giant, that's protective... will do anything to keep their loved ones safe. He also reminds me of Sander in some ways. But anyways, nowadays my friends compare me to this game as I do with family. I've always enjoyed this game. It's in my top favorites, along with Skyrim.

Rapture and Andrew Ryan proved Ayn Rand wrong. It showed what objectivism leads to. Destruction, misery, and civil war. Hell Frank Fontaine a criminal scumbag used ryan own free market unregulated capitalism to build himself an empire and his own private army to overthrow ryan. Ryan even became a tyrannical dictator due to the flaws of his own philosophy.

Having just finished the game now, years after I first listened to this song, the nostalgia hits harder than a charge from a big daddy.

Hey, someone from 2023 here, came back for nostalgia, most songs haven’t risen to my memory but this one is still easily my favorite, shit still holds up. Great chorus, great writing, overall still 10/10

My favorite part of the game.

What i love about this song are the lyrics" we'll go down with our sinking paradis" it makes me think of how the city has fallen into the chaotic nightmare that it is now, how the people of rapture became the drug addicted monstrosities they are now roaming the city in search of adam and the lyrics" we turn our hopes to the skies" it makes me think of those who want to escape from the nightmare that is rapture, as if pleading for someone to save them. What is sad is that the people who came to rapture believed they were going to a better place not only for themselves but their families as well, where no crime or war would take place only find themselves trapped in a place made out of nightmares.

This song is what dragged me into the depths of Rapture, can't say i regret it
