2K just announced Bio Shock Infinte at a press event in New York

2K Games announced today that BioShock Infinite, a first-person shooter, is currently in development at Irrational Games, the studio behind the original BioShock which has sold over 4 million units worldwide. Set in 1912, BioShock Infinite introduces an entirely new narrative experience that lifts players out of the familiar confines of Rapture and rockets them to Columbia, an immense city in the sky. BioShock Infinite is currently planned for release during calendar 2012.
Originally conceived as a floating symbol of American ideals at a time when the United States was emerging as a world power, Columbia is dispatched to distant shores with great fanfare by a captivated public. What begins as a brand new endeavor of hope turns drastically wrong as the city soon disappears into the clouds to whereabouts unknown.
The player assumes the role of former Pinkerton agent Booker DeWitt, sent to the lost city to rescue Elizabeth, a young woman imprisoned there since childhood. He develops a relationship with Elizabeth, augmenting his abilities with hers so the pair may escape from a city that is literally falling from the sky. DeWitt must learn to fight foes in high-speed Sky-Line battles, engage in combat both indoors and amongst the clouds, and harness the power of dozens of new weapons and abilities.
"We are excited to expand the world of BioShock, which is one of the industry's most critically acclaimed and beloved franchises," said Christoph Hartmann, president of 2K. "We believe that Irrational Games will lend their meticulous attention to detail and unique storytelling expertise to make BioShock Infinite an incredible entertainment experience that will immerse new and diehard fans of BioShock alike."
With the original BioShock, Irrational Games won "Game of the Year" awards from Game Informer, IGN, G4's X-Play, and BAFTA and redefined what players expect from a first-person shooter. "But when it came to begin work on BioShock Infinite," said Ken Levine, creative director of Irrational Games, "we only had one rule: No sacred cows. This game is both true to what people love about the series and unafraid to question every assumption."
Levine continued, "In order to explore the floating city of Columbia, we needed an entirely new engine. To bring Elizabeth to life, we had to build brand-new animation and AI systems. To create wide-ranging indoor and outdoor firefights at 30,000 feet, we had to rethink, rebuild and expand the BioShock arsenal. The only thing gamers can be certain of is this: the rules of the BioShock universe are about to change."
BioShock Infinite is in development for the Xbox 360 video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, PlayStation3 computer entertainment system and Games for Windows, and is not yet rated by the ESRB.

He probably used his other hand to grab on as he was looking at the city.
This teaser had a scarier sense of vertigo than the final game because the ground was always covered in clouds.
I remember the first time I saw this trailer. Such an amazing feeling..

+Voice Nerd Right, then I played the game and was like, this is nothing like how the trailer made it seem.
Man, they really wanted the Handymen to become the next Big Daddies... That didn't work so well...
They really changed a lot. So Elizabeth's original powers was suppose to be psychic powers? Good thing they changed it. The tears was more unique.
I wish the game could have gotten the creepy feel it originally went for.

After I played through Bioshock Infinite I remembered this trailer from e3 or something and thought I must have been crazy. Glad I could finally find this thing.
Ellie tears power is the main point of the story. It s fascinating to think the developers just be like " screw this prototype, it does not work, we need to create a new game with a more fucked up story like quantum physic and multiple universes and shit".

This shows how much has changed since that teaser and the game itself. The teaser shows Columbia as more modern/gray, less brass/steampunk. Also, look at the model for Elizabeth. Just something I saw, thought I would share.
I love how Elizabeth's hand trembles as she reaches out. Man that is good detail.

@plutonicmind9 Agreed. the surrealistic element Bioshock brings really adds to the atmosphere and atmosphere is probably the most important thing in a game.
Ill ever forget the day when i first saw this trailer... Intill today, its gonna be history...
indeed as i played and beat the game i noticed things were different especially when a "first 15min gameplay was released" and you saw more of elizabeths power i remember her saying she couldnt control it
Last I checked, Big Daddies stand with a hunch. That was clearly just a regular scuba man, a common novelty in most fish tanks. He's probably holding a christmas tree.

that's because of drag on the surface area of the paper. It's the shape of the paper, not its mass, that lets it fall slower.
two years...finally its almost over.
I wonder who provided the voice for this version of Booker, it may be Troy Baker, but it doesn't sound a lot like him.

Reference to BioShock 1 and 2. Gorgeous yet terrifying games with 'Little Sisters' and 'Big Daddy' in it. They were talking about the Little Sisters.

When I first saw the trailer I thought it was another game set in Rapture xD But of course, a city underwater? Ridiculous!
My first thought at 1:03: we are definitely not in Rapture anymore.
The cool thing is that you briefly go back to rapture in this game

My god! How much more of Rapture do you people want!? You've got 2 games, multiplayer and add-on's for it, how much more fun can you have running around in a sunken city thats probably 80% flooded by now?
In my opinion they should change the place of action, but connect the games. Take a place in the same universe.

@TheFlamfy If you want a normal city, be my guest. There's a game called Fallout. Abnormal is what makes Bioshock what it is.

this is going to be a great game but in all honesty the teaser for Bioshock 2 was the best
all objects fall at the same rate, if the rose fell first it would be because it simply had less upward force as it fell than the man did so it was suspended in the air for less time and then fell sooner than teh man did.
... but it would have been twisted when he was looking at it again.
