Should be noted that sun bears are extremely intelligent. Captive bears have been known to mimic human body language and even facial expressions nearly on par with gorillas. That bear was 100% waving to the audience. These animals are a treasure, and as silly as the viral exposure is, it's a good thing it happened to draw attention to it.

Never heard of a sun bear before, this is my first time.

It's definitely a sun bear. I've watched numerous videos that show the same distinctive wrinkles on their backs. While they might be slightly smaller, there's no doubt they are bears.

Bear is called "brother" by many Native American tribes because they do things like this. Bears stand up and even walk often and they have a tendency to do a "wave" like this when they want something from you. Racoons do the same thing.

Ever seen a porcupine stand up? I saw one standing in the road once. I couldn’t see its back quills. Just the underbelly. It was dark out, but the headlights of my car lit it up. It looked like some kind mythical creature. It lowered itself back onto all fours, and that’s when I realized it wasn’t just a porcupine, but a yellow porcupine.

Let me confimed it again to those who is still sceptical that its a Bear, A Sun bear ..they are extremely intelligent. They have a cute light sun mark on their chest and quite loose skin for protection (that explains why their skin folds when they stand ) and they can act almost like humans too since they are intelligent (kinda like gorillas in some ways. They are the smallest bear in the world (same size as a regular dog) and they have large paws and feet because they climb a lot, in fact, they climb trees the most amongst bears. They really loves honey so they are the closest to Winny the Pooh too. I know cus I am familiar with them. After all, they are native species in my country (Malaysia, used to be called Malayan Federation 60 plus years ago) Even their full name shows that. MALAYAN SUN BEAR. Malayan stands for Malay Malysian. the Malay ethnic people is the majority here. But Malaysia is a multicultural country since we gain our indepence from British in 1957 and we do have huge numbers of Chinese Malaysian, Indian Malaysian, lots of aboriginals (various small tribes), Thai Malaysian and more mix people who lives here for generations, some even spanning over more than 6 six generations already, they are already here before our independence . The reason why I emphasize on this is because the person who was interviewed is an expert who lives in Sabah, one of our states. And yeah, the expert is a Chinese Malaysian. He is definitely not a Chinese from China. His Malaysian though descended from Chinese etnic. So no Chinese govt involvement here.

@@ghostladydarkling3250 hahahaha...yes, me too still find it weird sometimes because these cute bear tend to stand really straight.. but the again, they are the best tree climbing bears and their size is small too (I wanna cuddle them soo bad). I still remember I once went to Malaysian national zoo (we called it Zoo negara) years and years ago. I managed to looked at a pair of mother and really young child sun bear. You see, the mother itself stretch her child's body while they were resting under the shade. Not to mention, they sometimes actually carry their child while standing on two feet!!! Another thing is that their claws are big and long to help them clamp better on trees. And they do have thin fur coats as Malaysia is a hot and humid country...so year, access skin on their bum do show up more when they were standing

Their long tongue looked a bit creepy especially when it is hanging out. They are kinda like a real live pokemon.

The bears enclosure is not great and it could have gone man due to the constant human attention and small habitat. In the wild they need miles to roam. Also the native bear loves foliage for hiding where this poor bear has only fake rock.
