Binary | Ani DiFranco | Talks at Google

An acoustic performance and discussion with Ani DiFranco!
Grammy winner and feminist icon Ani DiFranco began her career as a proponent of the artist-run label, creating her own Righteous Babe Records in 1990. Since then she has released over twenty studio albums and supported a broad range of social causes including racial justice, reproductive rights, gender equality, environmental issues and prison reform. With her latest album "BINARY", the iconic singer/songwriter/activist/poet/DIY trendsetter returned to territory that brought her to the world’s attention. Critics and fans alike have praised "BINARY." American Songwriter raved, “DiFranco stretches musical muscles to stay inspired on "BINARY." She continues to speak her mind with the pride, ferocity and integrity that has shaped an impressively rebellious career.” With an exclusive “First Listen” of the album, NPR Music claimed. “…it could be the record that wakes you up to the world.”

Such a beautiful family. I’ve been honored to be listening to ani my whole life; it seems like some years after she releases an album I find myself moving through the same things, being wild, confused, passionate, politically furious and hopeful, finding monogamy and family, becoming more proactive than destructive... I’m thankful that I’ve gotten to see some expression of her evolution as I move through so many similar emotional, witchy, human stages of perception and learning. Pia is so sweet! Beautiful voice. I trust her to grow into herself in the most exceptional way over time ❤️

ani is an inspiration and has been for me since i first heard her in the late 1990s. it's so refreshing to hear this interview and see she hasn't changed her true self over the last couple decades. she has integrity like no other. also thought matthew hendershot asked great questions that she responded well to

Was just thinking the same thing, I remember seeing Ani in concert with her baby bump at the Copley Symphony Hall in 2006 and now she is standing by her, singing.

Feeling so fortunate to have grown up in an era of being able to follow Ani and Prince along their entire career paths in music... looking forward to seeing Ani keep growing and going... truly one of the most brilliant artists, musicians, poets and thinkers of our time....and passing on great genes and vocals to her daughter...awesome harmonies!

Peta seems like a very serious little girl. I'm guessing she will do great things for society just like her mama. What guts for her to go on stage at such a young age. Girl's got skills!

Ani is one of the most underrated artists I know. I’ve met so many talented musicians and when we strike up conversation, I mention Ani and many say “who?”. I’m glad a friend introduced me to her tunes when I was 20.

I have and will defend this opinion vociferously - Ani is hands-down the greatest lyricist in the last sixty years. She's a great musician and a genius poet.
