Ani has always been a touchstone. Amazing woman. Total goddess, whatever they label her as.

Thank you People seem to live in fear of their authentic self, both the revealing of it and just the personal acceptance of it. We get fascinated by anyone who dares to live authentically, until they prove to us that it's safe to come out of our own shells. Thanks for daring. And enduring. I think we needed it.

When she said carry 'it around, everywhere you(i) go'.. i could nOt help filling in the verse 'am i headed for the same brick wall, is there anything i can do, about anything at all?' In my head..Icon, humanitarian, entrepreneur, firebrand, and (one of) my own personal hero, as well as soOo many other things; Ani is by fAR no stranger to adversity..hell.. her very first offerings to us were her confessing/daring/empowering her listeners to overcome their difficulties in the same way that she was fearfully, yet imperfectly perfectly doing (yes.. I've been a fan 4 forever) Master of fact, Ani's music saved my life (NO PUN INTENDED).. not that it even matters, but i know all too well the struggles involved in being othered (been dealing with it my whole life).. nonetheless.. i only wiSH (hope, still pray, optimistically ((despite the very obvious derision and division in our public discourse that we all are now immersed within)) that we can) oNe day be seen as one aching, hurting, scared and lonely humanity.. and that we can (somehow) comfort each other.. and greet/ meet each other with hugs inside of our eyes; instead of all of this toxic hurt that we (so wanton and easily) share..Love yOU Ms. ANI!! SAW YOU SEVERAL TIMES, on SEVERAL DIFFERENT TOURS, abs, not ONCE did you do aNYTHiNG OTHER THAN WOW AND AMAZE US ALL!! 🎉🎉❤ 👏 🙌 👌 👍

@@afterstarsthe point is that a single ingredient doesn’t define who you are. …trying to squeeze the totality of a whole human having a whole human experience into a census box feels reductionist and misses the point. (And the point is to love people right?)

Thanks for embracing the label. I remember your appearance on the cover of Spin magazine. I read that article and read the words "male oriented bisexual" and found myself. I carried that label for years and only shed it recently, because of its limitations. It's hard to quite encapsulate my identity now, which is wonderful and frustrating.

I adored and recently took it back up-nothings changed. 😅 u know this meant so much to me…I was kicked out of my house very young bc my brother had gotten himself into trouble and in a religious pious home setting although I am not mad about that now I just sort of understand everyone & appreciate it all-I was accused of being bisexual bc I “listened to Ani Difranco” it was so long ago I see all of the ppl in my family for the beautifully deeply flawed humans we all are and see only love to this day. However I have a little giggle it was bc I was so inspired by ur music and learned to play and sing - writing mainly bc of my adoration for the manifestation of gritty art expressed by a tough gal like myself. Thx’s for the beauty and boldness - 🎉 I celebrate it all.

No idea why we want to categorize everything and say people are similar or different than me. Maybe so then we can invalidate their experiences...we are now living in a culture that doesn't even want to know we exist and somehow our existing is offensive....just read a post about how people don't want to have trans/gay kids, like it's a disease.

Labels are weird. Kurt Cobain hated the word “Grunge.” He always said: “Nirvana is a POP BAND, and I’m a POP SINGER.”

She’s NEVER kept it to herself is the entire point ((folk singers tell stories. True ones. They wrote))but also doesn’t care for labels. Oh man. I’ve been telling about Ani since I was 11…I’m 42 in June.😂

Isn’t it awful that people will ignore every single aspect of your life, accomplishments, civil services etc and reduce you down to nothing but your bedroom business? At least you didn’t get stuck with “pan sexual”… 😂

As a bi person, I'm sad when people reject the label despite saying it fits them. Yes, it's your personal choice, but it still hurts. We're erased. The gold star lesbians who love your records have done nothing but abuse me my entire life for the sin of liking dick, and if you'd spoken up about it you could have done something about that. I grew up listening to you, so it hurts my heart. Labels aren't there to box you in. They - like pride flags - are there to say to those like you that its safe where you are, and to be like you. Its all personal choice. No one can or should force anyone to choose a label. It doesn't make my heart any lighter to know that though.

The sin of “liking dick” orrrr of falling for people you love? I mean….most humans sexuality exists on a pretty big spectrum. Lots and lots of folks will die never having admitted that. So: by that measure? You’re a healthier human for embracing all of the different parts, knowing they’re healthy & not at odds, and knowing there are days and even years where you’re more welcome in more than one “club”…because imagine as an artist people saying to you, that you, one human, need to bear the weight of representing them…because these other groups are more pushy, stole the flag, and will shame you for very small facets of a sexual life that will never make it into a resume or head stone. Ya know? :)

Let’s only hope when we get a REAL President again, this shit is fixed. Let’s start with making it Pride DAY! WTH - who approved a month ??? 😡 Veterans get one day - Fathers, Mothers, President ONE day. These people get a month??? Change this too!!!

Many many issues with this president-jeez we could write a book. Nearly 50 years in the senate being part of the neoliberal problem-- but he’s pretty real Especially when you look at the diverse and qualified administration he hired but also the list of things he and his team actually got passed into law… that are helping children in schools, elderly people with prescriptions to afford …students… people & their healthcare…. Our stewardship of lakes and streams, protecting the American environment, getting serious about green energy ideas and more. He’s real…. Because real means, imperfect, complicated and multi layered

Vets get an entire month lmao, as do men. You don't actually care about these issues, you're just citing examples someone else told you mattered to justify your feelings. Literally every word you typed is propaganda, phrased exactly as they want you to say it. You should think deeply about that.

I mean just the fact that Ani is coming up in your feed is pretty great. Just to clarify and if it makes you feel better, I don't think gay people get the whole month off from like school or work. The banks stay open and government continues to run. Lol
