Well thought-out, objective tests like this one make me a satisfied Patreon. Extremely expensive test equipment like the Glossmeter (which I am a bit envious of as a hobbyist) contributes greatly to objectivity. I also found the tips for curing especially helpful.

Nice work yet again Jon. Thank you for doing this test for us. I’ve used the In2Detailing wax many times, and it’s one hell of a performer for the first 6 weeks or so, really does bead like crazy. However, I’ve got 2 pots in the garage and can’t see me using them again as there’s so many easier to apply, longer lasting, better performing “spay ons” now.....

Interesting test, thanks Jon. I must admit that I've been erring towards the spray type products after my love affair with Bilt Hambers DSW which didn't have the durability I was looking for (highish mileage company car). But maybe you've whetted my appetite for a good wax session again. Cheers.

A very accurate assessment of the Bilt Hamber Double Speed wax Jon. It is a bit grippy to buff off, but it gives a great finish when you do. Free buffing cloth and applicator confirms it's outrageous value for money. Great video.

I always look for alternatives to my "go to" BH products of Surfex, Autofoam, Autowash & DSW. The performance & value make them virtually impossible to move away from though. Agree that DSW is a little "grippy" ( I do have a tendency to over-load that doesnt help) but the longevity is excellent.

Nice review fella. I ordered my BH DS wax last week on your hour long product review of BH products (Dec 2016 - just watched last week). I ordered direct from BH as they were cheapest for total cost, including shipping (living in N' Ireland, you sometimes have to pay excessive shipping rates). In the packaging was the wax, a foam applicator, and a decent buffing MF towel. There was also a set of instructions. So, I'm not sure if other traders selling BH wax will sell these instructions on - but they seem simple enough to follow from a quick read through. I'll be looking forward to the results once the weather turns a bit nicer. Bit disappointed with your final review segment, regarding presentation and desirability. I desired BH DS wax, simply because it's the best at what it does for the price. I'm not applying a fancy glass jar to my paintwork, just the product, the wax. I guess in a functional pot such as BH uses, it keeps the cost down. Keeps my Scottish financial senses from tingling too much ;0).

the desirability thing I introducd a while back (see the second SI02 spray). I try and run a consistent set of tests and rank them. so I wont introduce tests just to spread the love so to speak, every test that has a winner also has a looser (ying and yang). Its an agressive format or competative format, but its just the way Ive always done it and brands are more than welcome to reach out and opt out (some do).

Hi Jon discovered something interesting with DSW earlier. I got a coat on the car but then it rained. So I buffed it off when still wet. The DSW came off way easier than when dry. Just wringing the microfibre out when wet. Then when totally dry just when over with dry Microfibre to do a final buff and make sure I had it all. Way easier to remove and only needed tow cloths were I would normally get through 4 or 5. I will defo try it again.

I've been using Bilt Hamber Double speed Wax for a while now and I absolutely love It. I find that It gives my cars paintwork an excellent shine and feel that seems to last for ages. And when the wax starts to slightly fade away In the coming weeks, I then spray on some p&s beadmaker. This I find makes the paintwork feel as smooth as glass and aids the wax to gain back some shine 👍

And I still to this day get guys that moan at me for the content when most of the time Im working for about 5% of the minimum wage :) The views are really only in the dirty detail vids. The sad this is as well I can do a 20k video by just picking a drama subject with a zero edit... so yer I know this video is smooth and nice to watch but dunno how long I can do them for. I did feel the grippyness, but that was easily solved using a fresh baldwipe now and again. No sweating even though the car had been damp (dew) overnight. Great review! The desireability category was very very smart, as emotional factors (which matter with waxes!) were considered but not too heavily which would have been the case if you would have considered the scent, the design, the jar / can, the presentation etc. on their own. The conclusion was understandable based on the test results and what you said, but I would have come to a slightly different conclusion: there are so many (!) fantastic waxes from small, loveable manufacturers out there, especially in the UK, that offer almost the same level of objective, measurable performance as the Bilt Hamber wax (or even better performance), but offer so much more in the emotional categories. So my conclusion would have been: go out there and have a look at the very diverse wax scene in the UK and pick up something that offers a little bit more that „just“ performance and value for money.

It‘s too late for this review, but for a next one maybe: I found Kiwami to perform MUCH better if you let it cure much, much longer - up to 60min. I think it has something to do with the strong solvents in it and that they evaporate over time, especially if you get a tin which has been standing on a shelf for a very long time. Maybe that‘s something you could test on your own, but I think it‘s an important tip for consumers, especially since the wax dries so nicely and is a doddle to remove even after 60min.

The Kiwami might have earned a slight bump in the packaging/appearance if you’d reviewed the White Pearl (for white/light colored paint), it’s more of a jelly than a paste, so it wouldn’t have developed any cracks. (Still has a very strong solvent smell)

thats a ripping question. answer is not really no, pragmatically speaking. If your like on soft woefull non OEM butter soft clearcoat.. Debry in your microfiber cloth will still be the number one risk. but you should always buff carefully and you can switch up to a open pile plush cloth and buff gently to minimize risk if you like.

Hi, I think Bilt Hamber's Finis Wax is supposed to be even more durable. Less glossy then I suppose. But what way better are you looking for?

  • @roscopervis

    @roscopervis

    4 жыл бұрын

These 2 waxes are interestingly different and the chemical resistance test would show why. Bilt Hamber say that Finis Wax is their most durable wax and has more carnauba so is a better looking wax, but this durability applies to longevity rather than chemical resistance. If you wanted a wax for the winter and you were not going to wash the car much, then Finis Wax would be the best choice. Double Speed Wax is said by Bilt Hamber to be their most chemically resistant wax. So it will do well in tests like this one, or if you were snowfoaming and washing your car frequently, but it would be less mechanically durable than Finis Wax - simply, less resistance to weathering. The chemical resistance tests are great, but they are not the whole story when it comes to durability. Problem is actual waiting for durable waxes to weather takes months and that is way boring.

As a company I generally rate Bilt Hamber very highly, their products are well priced and top quality. Saying that I find the double speed wax too 'grabby' and although it applies and cures well the removal can be troublesome and finish lacking gloss. In it's defence I'm guessing it aimed more say as a protection product other than a finishing wax though. Thinking back to the 2000s do any of you remember 'Max Wax'? It was maybe more of a polish. I remember using it with great results on my Renault 5 GT Turbo Raider :)

it is a bit grabby you notice it more when like you are working your way around a car.. but I find with a thin film its still nice to buff with... finis wax isnt grabby but does not have the hydrophobic polymers and its twice the price.

A wet applicator pad really helps with the dsw. You dont have to let it cure for long, i just do it one panel at a time. Shot pile for 1st wipe off and go back over with a plush towel. Gives the car a lovely warm glow and durability with the help of some detail sprays will easily see you through the winter. The value for money with this wax is seriously unbelievable.

not sure seen that a few times and it is very subtle. I think after determininng you are using a detergent that does not cling.. detergent blends can still sometimes contain fatty acids which need a bit more rinsing to remove and might mask a bit untill you give it a proper rinse.... maybe its this.

Collenite 915 is a wax worth checking.. Colly you need to be carefull with as it sets like rock... but waxes which set hard tend to last out well. As long as you get your buff right with 915 and dont over apply it, its a very nice product. proper nuba glow. colly 915 is not that hydrophobic but its still durable.

A few years ago I tested 1 layer of BH DSW, Collinite 915 and Sonax Polymer Net Shield on the bonnet of my daily driver to see which was the most durable. The bonnet is silver and looks wise, I couldn't tell the difference. It was obvious that the Collinite lasted much less time than the other 2, probably only just getting to 3 months whereas the other 2 were closer to 5. The Sonax seemed to last a couple of weeks longer than the DSW. I've reported this test in Detailing World and on the Facebook forums. At the start of that test I applied 2 layers of DSW to the rest of the car and this was lasting much better than the bonnet. 2 layers for the win!

you cant strip freshly layed wax.
