Rejected payments may result in you incurring fees or penalties from your property manager or other third party service providers." 🔗 See the current terms here: www.biltrewards.com/terms/bilt-services-terms-of-use ‼ *UPDATE 4.29.2023:* The Bilt Team apparently admitted their chatbot (shown at 23:33) was incorrect to some degree about using the Bilt Rent Account (i.e. routing # and account #) for non-rent charges. While some things may still work, I'd personally be careful. The reply it now gives is: _"You can only use our Pay Rent Online feature for rent and rent-related charges. These charges may include rent or additional charges from your landlord, like utilities or maintenance."_ See this post by Frequent Miler for more info: frequentmiler.com/amassing-bilt-rewards/ ‼ *UPDATE 4.19.2023:* Bilt Dining has launched, allowing you to earn 5X, 8X, or 11X points at partner restaurants! 🏆 *Why I ranked Bilt #1…* 1. It rewards the BIGGEST EXPENSE most people have (Housing/Rent), a category that was previously non-rewardable with any other card. And it does it WITHOUT FEES. 2. It has some of the BEST TRANSFER PARTNERS in the industry, including Air Canada, Turkish Airlines, Hyatt, and American Airlines (which neither Citi nor Barclays were able to accomplish). 3. It’s an EXCELLENT credit card for dining at restaurants (3X points). It also offers additional ways to earn points & high-value promotions that can actually be worth doing. 4. Points have a MINIMUM redemption value of 1.25¢ each for travel via the Bilt portal (this rivals the Chase Sapphire Preferred). 5. It offers ALL of the above (and more) with NO Annual Fee and NO Foreign Transaction Fees, PLUS insurance protections.

    The Bilt Mastercard is an absolute game-changer in my opinion. If anything, I think it will force other major lenders to make some changes to their credit card products and more competition among lenders is always good for consumers. This was a really comprehensive guide here, Mark. Great work man!

    Your chat with the Online Digital Assistant is exactly what I was looking for!! I read Bilt’s terms and conditions which made it seem like the account was to be used solely for rent payment to a single Payee. So glad to know that I can relax about paying my cable bill with the Rent account before conducting the research if this was allowed in the first place 😅 Thanks Mark!

    I received the second email you mentioned on the video, earn 5x for the next 5 days. Bilt Mastercard is such a great card especially on the first day of the month. It would be nice, if they add grocery and gas categories to make it more appeal for an essential card. On paper it looks so much better than the CSP , because of the 1x rent and no annual fee. Thanks for the breaking down the video step by step like you always do, Mark!

    Mark - great video, very informative, and many thanks. I've been waiting for this card to add the pay via ACH method to be able to use it and great to learn that they have done so. My one question is regarding "rent day". What triggers the bonus - purchases actually made on "rent day" or when they post? I would hope it's the former, but we all know that transaction date vs posting date can be a frustrating thing when trying to take advantage of CC offers/bonuses/coupons.

    That it doesn’t do mortgages is the only reason I haven’t picked it up, though on Reddit, there are some data points saying they have used it effectively (at least for some period of time) w/o being flagged, especially when the lender is WellsFargo. That could end up being how they do it. Maybe you ONLY get points with WellsFargo, or you get 1ppd w/ WF and .5ppd w/ everyone else. I live in the Bay Area and my portage is $6500+ so I’d take half the points if that’s what it takes to get any.

    Likely any of the following... - Cards earning 2% on all purchases. - Any card you like with a new welcome bonus (large purchases like insurance premiums are a great way to meet signup bonus requirements to get a huge return from a new card) - State Farm Premier Cash Rewards Visa Signature Card if you're with State Farm (it earns 3% back).

    We added this to our portfolio and honestly it might replace the sapphire preferred card in my wallet. United is usually the most available airline where we live and Hyatt is obviously the best hotel transfer partner out there. The fact that we can utilize both of those transfer partners, for free, is a HUGE benefit. And the fact that rent can go on this card already allows us to earn more points every month for those transfer partners than we would with chase cards. Not to mention the same 3x match on dining. It’s really shaking up our approach and I’m kinda digging it. Great video as always!

    If you want autopay you have to create a WF account. Even though this card is hyped up it’s not hyped up enough in my opinion. It’s literally a better version of the chase sapphire preferred. Literally compare then side by side BILT copied then 1:1 and made it better by having better transfer partners no annual fee and points on rent

    I just heard about this card after getting approved for the Chase Sapphire Preferred, really unfortunate timing. I’m starting a new job in a few weeks when I graduate college in May, and I’ll be living in an apartment for the next few years. I should’ve done more research as I learned that AA is a transfer partner, and I constantly fly AA for both business and leisure travels, and even own the Executive World Elite Mastercard. I’m not sure if I should consider applying for the Bilt card since I just opened the CSP, or if I should just wait a while.

  • @MarkReese

    Points are only worth 0.55¢ each when redeemed for certain things, like cash back. For travel, they're 1.25¢ at a minimum. So if you earn 3X points and value them at 1.25¢ each, then that's a 3.75% return. However, the big value is with transfer partners, where it's possible to get a 5%, 7%, or bigger return. @@MarkReese - Thanks for the reply. Yes, I am looking at the cash back value. Traveling requires a lot more spending. A 2% card has a better return. Until recently, I was able to pay my rent with a Visa rewards card, which worked out to 1.4% back after fees. Because Bilt now charges a much higher fee, this is no longer possible. Bilt is 0.5% back plus the requirement you get only 0.5% on 5 more purchases, which is both a loss and more work and thinking to do each month at a loss. For travel rewards, many cards are much better. I have one at 3% and a regular card at 2.5%. If I was able to pay rent alone, it would be worth about $9.97 a month to me. But it also requires I have reduced rewards on 5 more transactions. You mentioned 1.25c for travel rewards, still way down the list in rewards. A 2% card or a 3% travel rewards card seems much, much better.

  • @Zigblat

    @Zigblat

    @@MarkReese -- Yet everything is still worth way less than 2% or 2 points. So many cards have travel rewards of 3% or more. Everything you list is way less, even when getting 5 times points or more. Talking about points alone is highly misleading as they have arbitrary values. The entire system is designed to make you think you're getting a lot when you are in fact getting way, way less than other cards. I don't think points should be even mentioned unless you are giving an exact value each time, so not as to fool people.

    From an "earn points on rent" perspective, no. From an "earn points on dining & travel + no annual fee + access to transfer partners + insurance protections" perspective, the card can still make sense.

    @@MarkReese That is some Bilt-in power. I seem to recall a video pre-Bilt this year where you said you were going to focus on cash back. Powerful! But not powerful enough to switch from owning to renting. However, if the rent rewards are still around in a couple years, may pay rent for the kids aparments at college. Now that would be awesome! 🎉

    so essentially if my rent is $1650 that’s roughly 100,000 points?

  • @MarkReese

    @MarkReese

    11 ай бұрын

    No. If your rent = $1,650, then you'd earn (1X * $1,650) = 1,650 points per month = 19,800 points per year. The 100K cap represents that maximum amount of points someone can earn via rent payments per year. So, that person would be paying $8,333.34/mo. in rent to earn that 100K. If rent were even more, then they'd still earn no more than 100K total points.
