'I can help' is one of those songs you can hear hundreds of times and never get tired of. The female backing vocals add a great touch.
Straight out of the box. This guy can still perform.
This used to be on the jukebox where I worked as a teen, in 1974. A sweet blond guy would come in and play this, sit in the same booth, and order the same thing..and stay a long time. When we dated he'd grin at me and say " I can help". It became something he said often, out of the blue, through the many years of marriage..he'd grin, look at me with THAT look..and say it again. Some awful sweet memories. I was given some of the 45s off that old jukebox, and I still have this one.
In 1974 my 17 year old boyfriend dedicated this song to me. I loved him and the song! He died a year later in a bike accident. This song epitomises him.
Still LOVE this song. God bless Y’all.
Still has an astounding voice. This makes me happy.

What a great song! Thank you Billy!
I remember when this some came out around 73 or 74? I was about 8 years old and it got heaps of air play in Australia...it was a big hit here. It's a song that is uplifting and happy! I can see why Elvis also recorded it. GREAT SONG from Billy Swan.
It's funny cause he not only sounds great but he actually looks pretty cool 4 his age(style-wise).

For a second he and George Jones resemble one another!
For as old as this song is and how long it has been since Billy cut it originally, his voice has never changed and sounds pretty much the same which is incredible

Great song! Good dancing music! I used to heart this song every week on the juke box in the local bowling alley! Good relaxing music!
A song about what a real "MAN" should be like!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Still sounds amazing 👏
One of those songs you can only be happy to hear when it comes on!
Great song with great memories!
timeless brilliance ... Thankyou Billy !!!
I'm glad that you all people enjoying this video. =)
Straight up. AWESOME. 👍That's all I say. 1 more time. Straight up AWESOME
One of my fave songs by Billy Swan. My late uncle plays this song on the car radio while we're on a road trip, just before COVID hits.
I watched two other videos of him performing this song live from 1980. He never looks up from the organ keyboard, he seems totally focused on playing. Someone commented they thought it was "corny" but I LOVE IT! Have not heard since it's release. Even though the only "oldies" station here in my city plays 70s & 80s this one is not on the play list. I saw a video about a neighbor whose yard "needed help" and this song was playing as background music. That video made me remember it. Mr. Swan😉 is self taught on organ, and guitar. He was given an organ as a wedding gift by Kris Kristoferson & his wife. BTW the song was released in 1974. I cheated; I asked BING A.I. And he still got the voice that he had in 1974.
he sounds exactly as he did decades ago. amazing.

God I miss the 70's! Wish we could all go back. Leaving the door unlocked, kids could go play around the corner without worry, drugs were around but way different. Economy was way better, NO cell phones, NO social media "everyone wasn't up your butt about your business", fishin was cool, gas was cheap, cars were fast! LIFE WAS GOOOOOD!!! Time machine anybody....well sign my ass right up! I'd leave this crap and go back in a flash. Oh wait... I couldnt leave my opinion on you tube... oh well I think I'd be just fine without that too! Blessings to all who know how to live! Great vid thanks for the memories!
old like a fine wine

I'm glad this is one of the 1st songs I can remember hearing on AM radio, and not some shit like Lady Gaga or Minaj. So easy to sing to, uplifting and a happy tune. Killer guitar riff.
This is one of the people I want to stay 30 all the time…
Cool to hear a blast from the past thanks
One of my favorite oldies. Fantastic Billy Swan forever
Great memories. I remember dancing the bump to this song at the Myrtle Beach Holiday Inn Lounge (with band). Good times in the 1970s.

My brother and I heard this song when we were little kids and there is something about this song that we have always cherished it. We are both now in our early 50's. 🎶 Thank you Billy. 🎶 Swan. 🎶 📻🎶

Great song, it sounds the same as the original when first recorded. Couldn't tell the difference.

a timeles song from the good 70 zigern - music group ! my wife like th song to all days sice 2000 to the 2022 year
Great song. Sounds remarkably like the original version of 20-30 years ago.
On this day in 1975 {March 15th} Billy Swan performed "I Can Help" on late Dick Clark's 'American Bandstand'... Six months earlier on September 29th, 1974 it entered Billboard's Hot Top 100 chart; and on November 23rd it peaked at #1 {for 2 weeks} and spent 18 weeks on the Top 100... And on December 14th, 1974 it also reached #1 {for 2 weeks} on Billboard's Hot Country Singles chart... It also peaked at #1 in Germany, Australia, and the Canadian Country chart... R.I.P. Mr. Clark {1929 - 2012}
YOU ARE AWESOME! NO 1!
Sometimes they lipsync their own material, but I have to say, if this is live, I'm extra impressed. He did a good job of staying true to the sound and feel of the older recordings. Sometimes new performances of old songs sound like cheap and tawdry nightclub renditions where it goes "something like this", not "exactly like this".
Love this song, thanks for sharing Tina,
..Great Lyrics!!..I wish everyone "lived by his lyrics"...
Amazing performance.....sounds as good today as when it was first recorded !!! Great share mission507 !!!
If you sincerely like somebody, it is nice from you to like him still, whatever he looks now, even if he gets old (I remind that it will happen to everybody....
Gracias gigante
This is Great!!!....Thank you...
..I wish everyone had Billy Swans attitude..."I can help"...
Thanks for the excellent video! Sound and performance was spectacular! As a musician and a lover of this song, I can only complain about the bass player. In the beginning, he rode a single root note, instead of playing a one-two like it should have been. Also the note at the very end should have ended on the low root note instead of the high. The bottom end from that note really sweetens the ending like the original. Call me mr perfectionist!!
oh love it!!!!!! thanks gary for sending!! such a great tune.....thnaks lelle for the post,,,,,im babsie x
Thank you!
Magic !
if i remember hearing right Billy cut this song in 1 take only, you sure dont hear of that happening nowdays

@Mattea68 I agree,Iam in-awe of this Video,...Excellent!.. Thanks for the post
Billy turned 70 on May 12.
This wasnt BILLY'S Band, he probably hasnt toured for a long time. This is probably a stage band that had to learn all the acts materials at the time. I think they are great
Great song and memories, Todays PBS music is crap.
Impressive for someone his age
I can help is an American song of the American William Swan/Billy Swan.
Gotta luv Billy. He not only sounds good, but he looked good too. Does anyone know the year this was done?

❤I need your help 😞
Whitetailjedi - replying from Johannesburg South Africa. Dam right, those were the days (and earlier years as well) Am 71 years old and still recall the "good old days" when Elvis was still a teenager and you could walk the streets in SA without fear. Now its security gates, alarm systems, electrified fences and hijacking in day light. Murder and rape is a common occurance.
He reminds me of the guy who plays the captain on Law and Order SVU
Reminds me of roller skating as a kid at an old rink long since gone. Jeez, that organ player needs a puppy upper, or sumthin...
