Billy Porter Gives A Brief History of Queer Political Action | them.

Academy award-winning actor and singer Billy Porter takes us on a journey through time to explore the more obscure political actions that have changed the course of LGBTQIA+ history. Before that fateful day at Stonewall in 1969, there were nearly 50 years worth of queer political actions that took place but today, they are still overlooked when regarding modern history and civil rights movements.

Yeah USians talk about the US as of it's the only place that exists. It gets annoying sometimes to hear "this country" as if I live there which I don't.

I think it's because the US is a very popular/well known/large country. But I do agree that we get too much attention and other countries should get more attention because, though it isn't amazing, we have it fairly good here in the US where in some countries it is much worse.

Dayton Waiariki-wilson yeah. This is part of the history we SHOULD be taught in school. The history that helps us understand why the US and the world is the way it is today. Not just some blurbs on 1776 and 'oh yeah, WWI'. Didn't even learn about Vietnam and my school loved teaching about war.

What followed Stonewall is much more important than what preceded it. The radical gay liberation movement took hold in the 70s. But it's nonetheless interesting to underline that it all began in imperial Germany with Magnus Hirschfeld.

It’s sad that lgbt youth in America are watching more and more anti lgbtq laws being out into place, specifically ones trying to criminalize HRT and other gender affirming care. As someone in this country who is getting gender affirming care it really makes me disappointed, and even a little scared about what our future is going to look like here

This is a video about rarely known lgbt+ history in the Usa (and it should probably mention that it’s focusing on American history). I know ppl in the comments are upset at how US-centric this is but I think the issue isn’t this video, but that there should be more education about the global struggle of the Lgbtq community
