Without choke it cannot be started by hand. the carburetor has to be flooded until it makes a smacking noise, then it starts immediately. I own and fly this engine since three years.

Exactly, obviously dry at the beginning, then a typical RCist grinding away with a electric starter, eventually it suck up enough fuel to pop.

@@davidmulcahy4864 It's a very cool engine and looks like it would be a fun engine to own... but for the price, I think the more modern compact jet turbines would be more versatile and interesting for various projects. I figured that this was not his first time starting this one, but you never know...

I imagine if he'd just wanted something to just make a prop go round he would have done what you do. But nobody would watch a video of what you do. This is a guy with great skills and dedication at the point of bringing something amazing to fruition, and that's what you got. You must have a hard time keeping up with the dinner party invitations.

i would wear leather gloves for starting as this motor will take all your fingers off and still be running. what a complicated piece of kit....well done for getting it started...scary stuff when in a plane i would only have electric start for this one....at least all you have to do is push a button on the tx and it will start.

Is it a bought off the shelf engine or home built? The prop shapes are due to the “Rolling” shutter of the camera sensor, where the pixel rows are read out in sequence, unlike a more expensive design that uses a “Global” shutter where all pixels are read out simultaneously. Thanks for sharing very nice engine. Greetings from Tasmania Australia.🇦🇺🦘👍

Off the shelf from UMS they so a range of 7 and 9 Cyl engines. Nice to see someone who understands global shutter - hard to do with CMOS sensors but can be done. Simple to do with CCD sensors as they have masked off storage areas - a bit like winding on film - CCDs used to be more sensitive than MOS years ago but MOS sensors had billions of deveopment money thrown at them for mobile phones. I spent my life in imaging :). Was UK CCTV prodoct manager for Bosch before I retired. Just saw 4K introduced into CCTV :).

@@davidmulcahy4864 I have a medical background but also scientific/medical/forensic imaging one, but where the read-out is important for me in in my astrophotography where it makes a big difference when imaging the sun, moon and planets. Started with film in the early 60's to the present day and have too many cameras, both film, CCD & CMOS. Impossible to keep up with the newer developments in digital hardware now unless one has very deep pockets. Also been into R/C aircraft from valve radio Tx & Rx days. Done a lot of climate study, carrying cameras & recording gear up to 1.3km high with a 10' wingspan R/C-and Tx the data to a ground station. Used to be the chief flying instructor in R/C for Tasmania, Australia. Too many interests!! Clear skies, Shevill. Southern Cross Observatory Tasmania 42 South.
