Billions of cicadas to emerge after 17-year absence

When the ground warms to 64 degrees, a group of cicadas known as brood ll will infect the East Coast from North Carolina to New York's Hudson Valley.

Damn it. Are these bigger than the ones from 2004? Or are they smaller?

i LOVE how everybody freaks out and calls it an 'invasion'. Cmon guys, you get 17 more years without them, they dont bite, they are just annoying. They were here long before you.

When I first moved from NH to NC I saw one of these and took a picture because I thought I had found a new unknown alien insect :P After the flash went off the Cicada was apparently startled and let out what sounded like a loud screech and flew directly into the side of the house and knocked its self out haha!

That's pretty much what I did when I was 17 and they came out in droves up in MD, in 1987. In 1991 I moved to Florida where they don't live. But...we get hurricanes instead. Oh well.

I don't know why y'all are freaking out. You get 17 years free of them, they don't bite nor sting, they move nutrients around, and they are freaking adorable like come on calm yo selves. besides they were here before any of us technically we're the invaders :v

Well clearly it's not even 17yrs. It's 2021 now and this was 2013 and the cicadas are coming out this year. But it's not been 17yrs. So maybe the bug are staggered to come out every 17yrs to that particular brood but not every 17yrs for humans
