It's true defendant's job is that, but I also think it's not moral to defend a criminal (if we can all obey the law, so can they) especially a killer who shows no remorse. When I was still in law school they told me law and justice are two different things. Most lawyers don't really care about justice though, they care about the money they will be paid for cleaning someone's mess.

I hardly think that running someone over by accident makes you a killer. Covering it up isn't great but it's not like it was premeditated. He'd have gotten manslaughter at worst, if they'd reported it. And there were definitely extenuating circumstances
