Billie Eilish & FINNEAS: HIT ME HARD AND SOFT Interview | Apple Music
Музыка
Billie Eilish and FINNEAS invite Zane Lowe into their home studio to discuss the stories and creative process behind each track on their third studio album, HIT ME HARD AND SOFT.
Billie and FINNEAS revealed to Zane that this album has been the most challenging for their relationship as music partners and siblings. They dive into specific tracks, like reaching new vocal heights on "BIRDS OF A FEATHER" and updating songs written years ago for "BLUE." They compare the experience creating this album to Billie's previous two albums, and share how they've grown as artists and people since their debut with WHEN WE ALL FALL ASLEEP, WHERE DO WE GO?

A caring, protective brother indeed makes a perfect duo with a younger sister who is still discovering themselves and life, when having grown up in an environment that encouraged creativity and growth - but still lacked things necessary for a fulfilled child. Capitalism gets in the way and sadly often takes a parent’s parenting abilities away because one parent at least needs to be a workhorse, thus missing out on their role as an integral person at home and in their family group.

The portion of the conversation beginning at around 23:30 is one of the most honest and vulnerable windows into the lives of creatives at this level that I've ever seen. Finneas talking about feeling disconnected from Billie and also feeling like the life he lives keeps him from having anything of value to say -- this is the curse of success for artists, and I honestly don't think I've ever seen someone who's currently in the thick of it having such clarity about it and actively trying to figure out how to work through that.

It’s very cool to see how much she has changed over the years. I remember watching her interviews back in 2018 after ‘don’t smile at me’ came out. She acted like herself and I never saw anything like it, even in child stars. However, She was so melancholic as well and you could definitely feel that when she talked about her lyrics and herself. Now when I see her, I feel a sense of calm and resolution. Like Finneas said, she went from just living life, possibly just surviving when she was younger, to understanding life. I did not fully notice until I saw her recent interviews, and it’s so stunning to see someone come into themselves and flourish like she has.

I will never pass up an opportunity to listen to them talk about making music and their process. Best sibling duo! HMHAS is my album of the year hands down! 🏆
Being interviewed by someone who loves your work almost as much as you is such a great privilege for everyone involved including the audience. This felt like a private conversation betweens friends catching up that happened to have a camera in the room. Thank you Phineas and Billie for this amazing body of work and this interview. As a private person i know allowing someone into your home with your family talking about deeply personal passions is not comfortable.
I had to stop this interview a few times to go listen to the album and then come back. It definitely gives a deeper understanding and appreciation. Thank you.
I don’t think I can ever explain how much this girl means to me. Her existence is just enough to make me feel safe and happy. The way she talks about her music making and production is typically beautiful. She is such a musical genius
i love this flower pillow that they have!! it’s with them since the first album 🥺
There should be an app that is just Billie & Finneas doing exactly what they are doing right now, by talking and expressing themselves. This is truly great !👍
That’s one of the most honest interviews I’ve seen. Very vulnerable as well. The album is beautiful, and gets even better with more listens. It doesn’t need to grow on you- that’s not what I mean. I mean it opens up, and exposes itself more and more. It allows the listener to be vulnerable as well. Certain tracks are uncomfortably comfortable. I’m so happy I live in the time of these two.

so so beautiful how Zane conducts an interview. He ties everything in together. His choice of words are brilliant and you can really feel and understand his thought process. Love love love this!
The apple logo in Red in the end... Already cant wait for RED.
Huge credit to the interviewer! They really seemed so at ease together, it was like listening to a podcast. He seemed like he truly understood the depth of Billie‘s and Finneas‘ songs and their lyrics. Love it❤
This was the most transparent and honest interview and I think that it speaks to Zane and the way that he is able to ask people important questions without prying. I hate when I watch an interview and the interviewer is prying so much and then the artist doesn’t want to say anything.

Yeah I feel like he navigated vulnerable questions pretty tastefully
one thing I love about them is that they make music because they care about it, they put their feelings into it. the melody speaks to you ALSO, not only the lyrics. they really are expressing themselves through music! and GOD I love that everybody knows them now, it just makes art accessible.
New listener here, just happened to give this album a try and after a few listens, just absolutely hooked. Usually takes me a real, raw album to lure me in. Atleast for new or trendy artists. I can give props when they are due. And this duo is very talented. Obviously their parents helped cultivate and nourish their creativity early on.... Right away I noticed the songs connecting and the callbacks. Other bands have done it before, like Pink Floyd for ONE example. And it's those little nods that got me hooked. Also, them saying a lot of song lyrics are flat out explained by other artists I guess is referring to newer artist who have everything carefully and thoroughly examined by fans and media, etc. Back in the day, songs or lyrics were 50/50 really but you had enough artist with songs who couldn't be deciphered and the artists didn't have any interest in divulging who or what the songs are about. Nirvana and PJ Harvey come to mind. All that to say, nothing is every really new but it's definitely refreshing to see the main stream artist doing something REAL. Not usually into main stream artists, but Billy and Finneas won this obscured rock and roll lover over. Well done, guys.

I think that thing ab lyrics being related to something specific in the artist’s life is defo ab Taylor Swift
Billie's explanation of wildflower is everything I thought she was feeling when writing and recording it. That's how much she has let me understand her, just by listening to her music 💙
imagine just naturally and effortlessly being so beautiful
I love how they had to mute when Billie explained the line "but when can I hear the next one?" in blue. It got me thinking about the theory😆

I think the theory is true too! She did say that her and Finneas worked on a lot of music together…

As an artist myself, watching the obstacles a successful artist goes thru making music makes me realize that everyone has their problems with creating a track and taking time to actually feel ok with it. I’ve written music where i question every decision and puts me at a place where space and just forgetting it helps me perfect it to my liking. Going to a studio and creating something with constraints of time and money can either create masterpieces or flops. I appreciate every artist process and struggles. It comforts me and shows me I’m not the only one 😌
im really in love w the o’connell siblings
They are absolutely GOATs no words can express the gratitude to these two for what they’ve given us
she is literally the only artist how can understand all of us, and i really can recognize myself in her music, y’all can understand me
They are so respectful of one another, and the interviewer is professional by letting them just talk. This interview is a lovely conversation, not an competition, so refreshing. Excellent all around.
I could literally just watch them talk for hours. They're bond as brother and sister. It's just so beautiful to see that. Them just having fun making music together is everything.
it rly did hit hard and soft man
oh my god billie if you hit us with a double album i won’t ever recover

I love this this. This is a songs in spo
these two artists are born creatives, you can tell how engrained it is in them by their every move. zane is truly incredible as an interviewer, the way he listens and explains what hes hearing from whoever hes talking to is a joy
what I really love about this album is, that it’s literally for EVERYONE. It’s just hard and soft
she’s such an inspiration
hit me hard and soft is def my favorite album of billies so far and made me just so immeasurably exited for her life journey and what art will be born through her being open for change at every step of the way. its so inspiring as a young artist myself to be able to watch someone just be themselves and what gems get created out of it, it makes me exited to see what i can create as well with me getting older. thank you
Can we just talk about how much of a great interviewer he his and how he listens and actually does his research and can have such great chemistry with his guests ❤
