"Mousey, want, mad, I don't understand" is an incredible statement altogether. In a more human parsable sentence, it's rather like "I want the food in the mousey puzzle, but I'm frustrated because I don't know how".

KidarWolf - Exactly what I took from it, as well...Billi wanted her mousey instead, and was puzzled by Mom adding this new, 'unfriendly' puzzle. And 'rather displeased', as that "Mad!" button-push indicated.

I don't know how long cats maintain neuroplasticity for. Some animals (Orangutans are an example) literally can not learn new high concepts passed a certain point. Not an "It's difficult" rather a "The brain has fully matured and shall no longer perform this task." It's possible Billi is getting old enough that her learning process is staltifying if cats are like that.

Well, I've seen it go both ways. My last cat, a black and white tuxedo cat, was the epitome of proud! It showed in his bearing and posture, and was quite easily seen in his expressions. There's one picture I have of him where he's sitting there, with this.....Mufasan air to him.......He was king of his domain, and he knew it! So, if he did something goofy or klutzy, and you laughed about it, it kind of embarrassed him, and he'd get this look like "You didn't see that!" before running out of the room. The cat I've got now.........Let's just say the picture I have of him at his proudest is a shot of him sprawled out on his back, back legs stretched out, front paws curled in and his head tilted to the side. He......is the most laid back, mischievous and goofy cat I've ever seen! Personality wise, he's like that one kid at school who goes out of their way to make people laugh, and upon making them laugh, makes it their mission to figure out how to make them laugh again! He sees making me laugh as him doing something right, and his eyes seem to light up when I do!

I gather Billi's not a big fan of a jack-in-the-box unless along with the pop-up head, food showers out like confetti. I get it. Dinner AND a floor show is much better than a floor show then dinner.

Watching her first comprehend the mouse whack-a-mole pedal was like watching the beginning of 2001: A Space Odyssey where the ape-man grabs a bone and realizes he can use it as a weapon. I had "Thus Spoke Zarathustra" playing in my head as I watched Billi.

Billi putting her paw on Mom's hand cracked me up. It was as if she was saying "You do it, Mother." Reminded me of teaching an old lady how to use her smartphone :-) Also Billi's outrage at the notion that she has to work for her food was hilarious. Aren't we all mad when we have to go to work?

How cute is Billie with that you when she's trying to figure it out. And I'm absolutely amazed that a cat can push buttons for I don't understand and mad when she doesn't quite understand a cat-toy and that this you was bit frustrating for her (though seems she was bit unpatient).

1:42. Cats do like to copy, but usually other cats. I have NEVER seen a cat imitating a teaching prompt on cue like that. In fact, it’s unusual for dogs to respond in imitation unless they take it into their own head as a kind of bonding activity (like imitating yoga).
