A lot of great songs this year. IKYWT, Locked Out Of Heaven. Get Lucky and Radioactive deserved the top spot however

Personally, IKYWT is an enjoyable song but it's one of the more lackluster tracks of Red if we are judging by quality.

After so many years, the club boom era is winding down, even if it still has several remnants. On the pop front, many pop stars are changing styles in several different directions and combining other genres besides EDM, while electronic music in general is moving away from loud club jams. Following the boom of 2012, indie is one of the largest genres to have emerged. Hip Hop and Country continue to consolidate their positions, with one particular fusion of the two known as “bro country” becoming large as well. I consider 2013 to be the beginning of the streaming era that we are still in as of writing this. With the changes to music charting to include sites such as KZread and especially spotify, songs become much more accessible and more likely to become viral and debut high even if not from a huge pop star. Unsurprisingly, songs that would have been too experimental, silly, or just plain weird even a few years ago manage to get a large audience. While not obvious at the time, streaming would continue to grow further and further and with it change the landscape of popular music for the decade. This year was incredibly varied in quality and genres but I have fond memories of it even if some things aged better than others. Best and worst #1s of the year: Can’t Hold Us By Macklemore and Ryan Lewis ft. Ray Dalton and Blurred Lines by Robin Thicke ft. T.I and Pharrell Williams

Harlem Shake most iconic #1 debut I want someone to recreate this. Not the song or the trend, but a #1 cultural-resetting song from an obscure artist. Oh wait I forgot about Driver's License by Olivia Rodrigo. I want another 😩 2022 billboard has just been dogsh💩t

Fact: I knew you were trouble had the highest sales week of 2013 for the week ending on January 12th (582k digital sales) and it also sold the most digital sales for the week ending on January 19th (326k digital sales) so it is fair to say that it deserved those two weeks at #1 over locked out of heaven, because neither did locked out of heaven do well in the streaming charts for those weeks, nor did it do well in digital sales. Locked out of heaven was a payola song, while I knew you were trouble was an organic selling song

Locked Out Of Heaven probably just had such a strong grip on radio that it was able to compensate But yes I think it's BS that Locked Out Of Heaven held the top spot due to radio alone, especially considering THOSE SALES NUMBERS ARE MASSIVE

I’m assuming you detest Bruno Mars? Also with that 19th case you can call Diamonds payola too or maybe sales on that were a tad bit higher then it?

@@marshp1999 I don't deny diamonds had payola. Everywhere else on the globe it went #1 in October of 2012 and started falling off the top 10 by December. Only in Canada and USA did it have a late rise to #1 and a late fall because radio gained on that song in December

Were they robbed? A look at the number 2 hits of 2013 and the songs that blocked them. I Knew You Were Trouble - Red had a lot of fantastic songs and this was one of them. However, Locked Out of Heaven is just as great. It all comes down to personal taste but I’ll side with Bruno here. Not robbed. Mirrors - I gotta admit, I find it really funny this ended up at number 2 cause JT promoted this HARD. Macklemore was at his might with Can’t Hold Us and Timberlake was already yesterday’s news by this point. Not robbed but still a great love song. Get Lucky - One of the funkiest songs to be recorded since the end of the 70s. How Blurred Lines got the better of this, I don’t know. Robbed completely. We Can’t Stop - Miley during her crazy AF era. Eh, this song ain’t for me. Neither is Blurred Lines but I’m not enough of a fan of this song to change anything. Not robbed. Best Song Ever - One Direction has so many better hits than this mediocre garbage. Not robbed.
