Bill Nighy: A Life in Pictures | From the BAFTA Archives

Ойын-сауық

Nighy's first BAFTA win was for his performance as a news paper editor in the cult series State of Play (2003), and he’s starred in two television films for writer/director Peter Poliakoff: The Lost Price (2003), and Gideon’s Daughter (2005).
It was Nighy’s performance as an aging rock vocalist Ray Simms in Still Crazy (1998) that established his cinema profile and perhaps paved the way rather neatly to his scene-stealing performance as washed-up pop star Billy Mack in Love Actually (2003), for which he won his second BAFTA.

I don't know how highly he rates the role but his portrayal of another aging rocker, Ray in Still Crazy is one of my all time favourites, I could watch that every day and never get bored...

I would really like to spend an evening with him over dinner sometime. He reminds me a lot of how Sir Peter Ustinov almost sheepishly smiled at himself during interviews. A very charming character trait, I think. And his part in "Pirate Radio" will forever live in a very fond place in my memory. 😉

Bill Nighy is my favorite actor to discover is in a movie without knowing it going in. "OH Cool! It's Bill Nighy!" Somehow I think Mr. Nighy would appreciate and believe that more than just another bloke telling him he's fabulous.

I thought he would shake her hand only with his thumb, forefinger, and middle finger. Felt odd that he used all five.

In an interview he actually mentioned that he's self-conscious about shaking hands, especially with women if they don't know about his hands (because he thinks it makes them feel awkward), so he tries his best to use all five of his fingers.
