    Bill has always been like through his entire career. BUT, he's managed to be wildly successful behaving this way... there is 0 insensitive for him to do anything different. Bonus wish for him to start actually listening and considering what others have to say when he disagrees, even just sometimes.

    @@joelkweskin8545 I watched Sitch and Adam's show on KZread where Sitch highlighted a key aspect of Bill Maher's impact. His stubbornness on certain ideas and proclivity to align with the approved Hollywood opinions, actually helps him maintain his reac and credibility. This positions him uniquely: often when prevailing narratives reach historic levels of absurdity it prompts him to push back. His critiques are more likely to resonate with-and even go viral among-an audience that might otherwise dismiss alternative viewpoints or never hear them in the first place. Maher's ability to be seen as 'one of us' by his audience ensures that when he speaks out, even on widely discussed issues, people listen. His approach not only preserves his status but also ensures he reaches those who might benefit most from his perspectives.

    I’d love to see more of Louie CK. He was my favorite comedian. I’m a liberal, but it’s true that teenagers are making the rules. Their brains are still in a black and white mode of thinking. They haven’t matured yet, so they don’t see the grey parts. We can’t throw away a genius because he had a weird kink. He didn’t rape anyone. He deserves another chance. He made a sincere apology that we should accept.

    LCK gave an apology which was anything but rote. The impression i got was that he actually transcended the perception in which the behaviour occurred.- Awesome! .. But in typical mob fashion, the “lower” sentiments prevailed. No one wants to give up their victim status. In reality, if you dont feel powerful enough to enforce your personal boundaries, it’s a sign you need to address an issue of self-worth. This is a gift. You should thank the person who is bringing this to your attention.

  • @jalawto

    @jalawto

    20 күн бұрын

    I’ll preface this with saying I am a huge Louis CK fan. But saying to someone they should be grateful for “testing your boundaries” in this case is insane. Louis “asked” if he could jerk off like someone asks you for some of your chips whilst already reaching in your bag. As in, he didn’t wait for a yes or no before whipping it out. He also did it to female comics who looked up to him and thought they could advance their careers by networking with one of the more established stand up comedians, there was a power differential that he took advantage of. His manager Dave Becky had to do damage control and threatened the female comedians if they spoke up about what happened. I’ve been a fan of Louis since 2007 and I remember when the first news stories came out around 2014, the first stories didn’t even name him they just described who it might be so obviously that if you were a fan of Louis’s at the time you knew that’s who they were referencing. Also when he admitted to the allegations, he did take time off to reflect on what he did. Which was commendable, but in his special “Sincerely” he made light of the whole ordeal. I’m still a fan of Louis because he is IMO the best stand-up comedian since his rise around 2007 but I see people revising the story as it has been reported on in news articles and I feel compelled to report accurately because being a fan I followed all this closely. As for Sarah Silverman vouching for Louis CK, she only speaks for herself and it’s no indication of how the other victims view their own experience.

    The women were consenting adults. If you think what Louis did was morally wrong I’m curious to know what you think about the women? They had a choice and should we automatically respect women who think they NEED to engage in sexual activity for fear that it may hurt their career if they don’t? Women who have self respect don’t engage in that kind of behavior. Why? Because women who have self respect don’t whore themselves out at the drop of a hat.

    The thing about Louis CK is, what he did wasn't illegal, but morally speaking, it was very sketchy. Yeah, ok, so he asked permission - but often, who he asked was a female comedian, who may have thought he was joking, who may have thought there was a threat to their career if they said no, who may not have had time to even think through the implications of what he was asking them. Doing that to your wife or girlfriend is one thing, but doing it to someone you don't know that well, whose career you can have influence over? Sketchy. And I love Louis CK, one of the best stand-ups of all time imo. Bill Maher's point is a good one, though - in the frenzy of 'meToo' and 'woke twitter lynch mobs', it seems grossly unfair that someone like Louis CK is included in with, say, Harvey Weinstein, as if they're the same. They're clearly not the same. Harvey Weinstein should be in prison. Louis CK should still have a career, if he tries to make amends.

    This all took place in the mid aughts. Louis didn't have the power to hurt their career and they were well aware of that. Also, they went up to his hotel after after drinks. That invitation by itself was a sexual advance. They obviously have the right to back out but him making a move isn't surprising.

    @@SallyMankus130 comedians always hang out in each others rooms. They meet a fellow comedian on tour and go to their room to fart it up while talking bits. And there was never any segregation between male and female comedians, they often belonged to the same group which casually met and hung out together every night be it NY or LA. Louis had the power if you compare him to those who had just started. The part that the women were most unhappy with was that Louis' agent , who was the biggest agent in stand up comedy at the time, threatened them they would be black listed if they continued being public about what Louis had done. By the time Me too happened it had been an open secret in the stand up scene that Louis had had issues with masturbating in front of female comedians. I love Louis' art, but all in all that thing was super sketchy.
