Being a teacher, sorry to burst bubbles but most kids once the parents are gone they stop crying pretty quick. Especially if you have a distraction for them. So the best thing for the parent to do it to end with a kiss and hug and tell them you will see them later. This will help the child understand you will be back. Be excited for anything fun they tell you about school. This will make school be a happy place for kids to be. Pets are the same way when you drop them off at boarding.

I agree! Another thing to reduce "teaching" and "feeding in to" separation anxiety and make it easier for the child's transition, growth and self-resilience is if the parents dont make a big deal about them having been "gone" when they get back home. Its tempting to shower them with affection and "we missed you so bad" and often a bit heart breaking but it helps a child to understand that even though they were at school/nursery life at home is still normal, their parents will be there for them when they get back and they still "have a place" in the home. Quick hugs and kisses and welcome home "Okaerinasai" then carry on as usual, as they get older and more verbal about thoughts and feelings you can ask them how their day went and what they did.

So true, working at an before and after school program, it was often more traumatic for the parents than the kids. The crying stopped as soon as they started playing with their friends or came over to the table to color with the other kids.

Yes! Working in Kindergarten in Brazil and we always tell the parents in orientation that, as long as you make sure they know you'll be back and don't feed into the separation anxiety, they'll stop crying in like 5 minutes and enjoy their time with us :)

We took our daughters to an Italian pre-school that was run by nuns. It was Monday thru Friday with Saturday half day. When we moved to Spain, my youngest daughter was able to go to a Spanish pre-school before she reached the age where she started 1st grade on the military base. It was very beneficial for them to be able to do this, giving them a different perspective and learning both languages pretty proficiently. It also gave my wife free time to relax and do the things she needed to do during the day without having them underfoot.

In Germany the "Narashi Hoiku" (Eingewöhnung) is a little bit slower. We started with two hours, but I was with my son there for one week. Then one hour with me and one without. The third week, he was there for 3 hours alone and now, the fourth week, he is also having is midday sleep there and is there for 5 hours. Next week the Eingewöhung will be finished. Usually kids start to go between 1 and 3 yo, mine is 13 months now

Parent are the same across the world, we all cry on the first day of daycare. It's hard letting them grow up 💙

I’m a pre-school/nursery teacher and I understand your feelings! But I also know that most children LOVE their time at nursery and it’s such a blessing to be able to have your child in one. Wolfe will get to play and socialise with other children, learn how to be a good and caring human being, learn how to share and playcodes and much much more. You’ve prepared so so well, remember sometimes the marker will wash off in the laundry for his clothes - there are stickers you can print his name on and stick it onto the labels of the clothes if this happens. I always tell parents to mark EVERYTHING, and have multiples of things like their fave snuggle/cuddle toys and keep them in rotation with cleaning etc. Great job guys!

Oh yes. Same situation with ours. I think it may be more difficult for the parents. Once the kids acclimate and settle in they're fine. But it's heart breaking in the beginning. No we don't have the 2 hours to start and gradually increase, that seems like a wonderful idea, I'm anxious to see how it works out. I remember driving to work crying because my son would be so upset when I would leave him. It didn't take long for him to settle in, but he did cry everyday at nap time..good luck..

You guys are so cute. You guys will go thru so many stages of Wolfie's life. Daycare/nursery is only the beginning. You guys will do fine. The worst for me is when my son has his license and went off to college. That's why you know that he became an adult and left the nest.

It's good having him start nursery because it will help learn social skills. My wife never went to daycare as a child and when she started school in pre-k she had a hard time listening and sociallizing with other students and the knowing whose boss when it came to teachers.

In Canada we call it gradual entry. The kids are there increasingly every few days an hour longer till they are able to stay the whole time. Been through it with 3 kids and every kid was different at drop off, but they honestly stop crying not long after you leave and settle down to play with the other kids. You’ll all get better with it over the first few weeks!

I have to day, I absolutely love how you had a sit down with Wolfy and explained what was going on, I see so many parents taking their children to places even as mundane as the park without talking to their little humans. Communication is key, and I love see that here! No matter how young or old someone is.

Nursery is important for kids it helps them to socialise with other children and it helps with there communication skills, both my children went to nursery or daycare here in Australia, it was very beneficial for them. It will help you both to prepare for when Wolfy goes to school. Also me time for you both

My wife and I went through something similar. I think we were crying more than our daughter, though. Overall, it is so magical to think about the lives our little ones will create for themselves with the guidance of their parents. Testing different things they've learned and developing their personalities. It is truly a privilege to be a part your families big day. 😀

Wolfy is so cute! Last year we sent our youngest son to preschool for the first time. He didn't like it, he cried a lot the first 2 times. In the end we just sent him like about 5 times during the whole school year because of Covid. There would be Covid scares more often, so he didn't go anymore. He was 2 at the time. This year at 3 years old, he's loved it! Covid19 began when he was 1, so he didn't get a chance to have a normal life with other kids around until 2022. We live in Chile now but my kids were born in the US. We didn't get to send them to school there as we couldn't afford it, but here, daycare and preschools are run by the Government or there are private ones too. Cheers! You guys are doing great! At the first nursery school my son went to they had a two way mirror where you could watch. I felt so sad--he cried a lot at first. Then it was sporadic--only when he remembered I was gone. But eventually he got used to it (so did I) and it was ok. But it was very, very hard for me to put him in preschool. You two did GREAT!

you sjhould definitely try out the one parent one language technique. for example, paolo will only respond to wolfy in english, and maiko will only respond to wolfy in japanese, or vice versa

Most kids are very happy in a nursery. They take a day or two to settle down. It’s the parents who worry unnecessarily.

Crying when you leave is actually a good thing!! He trusts you. He cries because he trusts that you will respond. Separation anxiety is normal and ideal for a child his age. Recovering from crying quickly after reunion is also good! All are signs that you both have a good, secure bond with him, and he trusts you a lot!

I started daycare when I was 2.5 years old. I cried for a month and so did my parents. I am pretty sure they are still traumatized from that experience. My sister didn’t even pretend to cry. She didn’t want to come home at the end of the day

Don't worry it will get better I promise. He will get use to drop off, my two did. There was a point where my daughter at 3 went backwards and cried a few days when I dropped her off but after that week she was better. It seems like that happens mostly when they move to another age class and it's a different environment so they start to be unsure again and clingy. But over all enjoy this time because soon he will be off running into class to be with his friends to have fun and play.

I’m half Japanese but can’t speak it. My mom, who is from Japan, tried to teach me both English and Japanese when I was little. Since I was slow with speaking actual words growing up, she panicked and only taught English. I went to Japanese preschool but all my other school years was English only. I’m 26 years old now and still have difficulty learning the language. In college, I actually learned that it’s normal for children to be a little slower when learning two languages. So please if this happens, don’t be discouraged and continue to teach both! It’s supposedly easier while young. Love your channel! :)

It all sounds very similar to what we did with our now three year old in Norway 😊 From the tagging of cloths to the app with the photos and the report about what they did. It really helped me not be too worried about how he was doing.

My son was crying a lot at the beginning when he went to his nursery but slowly he's gotten used to it. It's been a year since he started going to his nursery and he's been having lots of fun! Seeing my son enjoy so much and is taken good care of by his senseis actually makes me feel happy for him. You will be surprised by how much Wolfy can learn and experience from going to the nursery!

When I was a kindergartner in the early 90s we only did half day school the entire year. Daycare and such depended on parents’ schedules.

Total understand that initial anxiety, We had twins in Saitama, but were lucky enough to have the Houikuen a few hundred metres from our house to familiarise the kids with morning patterns prior to that first day. Pretty hard to get ahead in Japan now without both parents earning.

Wolfy is growing up so fast! I’m sure he will do very well once he gets used to it. I like the gradual process they have in place there. I was a daycare teacher for twenty years and here in the US the kids are usually in daycare for the entire day right from the beginning. Sometimes there is a shorter week for kindergartners. You guys are great parents. I know that you will help him to adjust as you are adjusting 😊💕

My daughter is now 24, but I was a working mom and went to almost the exact same process that you guys are going through. It's always really difficult in the beginning but you do get used to it and especially for only children it's really important for them to hang out with other kids as much as possible. My daughter and I've been watching your videos and it was very instructive for her to see how much sleep you did not get in the beginning, lol. Best of luck you're doing great.

I had my first two sons in daycare and we had our 3rd son stay home with us…. The difference with the baby staying with the parents is 100 times better and they progress farther with parents… My first two babies 9-10 now did like it but did always miss us of course… Family is family… Good luck on your journey being parents. My friend is French. Her son has grown up bilingual. As mum spoke French and Dad English in the home. However when he started French at school. He couldn't write it! It's a big change for you all but I am sure Wolfiie will settle down

So sad! But for Singapore, one of the parents get to go into the school for 2 days, from morning to maybe 12pm, we get to see what they do in school and be with them. Then for the 3rd day the kids will be off by themselves.
