Bilaruk: The Kaimeran Leviathan | Speculative Evolution Multituberculate Whale

Үй жануарлары мен аңдар

There are many creatures called 'whale' by the peoples of Kaimere. Largest in the inland sea is not even a placental mammal: the bilaruk, largest multituberculate known to Assembly naturalists. Though they mainly feed on seagrass, they also readily process benthic fauna like worms and crustaceans.
Songs of the Inland Sea is the sequel to Tales of Kaimere! It is a nautical anthology, with all six short stories and novellas taking place in aquatic settings. There are heists on a ship, a desperate chase through a marsh, and a survival story from the perspective of a killer whale!

    I love this Bilaruk! With the body of a basilosaurid, and tusks of a walrus, but also the ecology of an elephant. I love the attention Multituberculates get in Kaimere, and these grazing whales are among my favorites! Have you ever thought of a semi aquatic monotreme or multituberculate converging on a penguin or hesperornis body form? That's a staple of my water world.

  • @TalesofKaimere

    @TalesofKaimere

    Ай бұрын

    Thanks! Yeah I mean we'll see. As I understand it there may be more material at the original site and the hype seems to have funded another trip which is nice. Hopefully skull material will be found. Benthic feeding supports grey whales which can get pretty big. Also, sea levels were very high during the Eocene. Could have been a lot more shallow seas than we have today which could go a long way in supporting a shallow benthic lifestyle

Nice to see the desmostylians again. I hope the Bilgarobi gets its day in the limelight eventually. 2. Are there species resembling the Bilaruk itself in Kairul or are any giants there only cousins in the same clade? 3. Are any basal Ambulocetus type multis still around or are those extinct like for our modern cetaceans? 4. Since we have a lot of single species stuff coming up, the only thing i want to know is are we going to Kaishel at any point? I'll take any sort of episode frankly.

    Really a very amazing episode ! Giving a good bunch of stuff to present lore and teases for future wonders far to the mysterious Kairulan's realm ! With the Bilaruk, we now have sort of "Basilosaurid" in a way on Kaimere (to fitt their role), and we now have this legendary biblical creature that the Leviathan is ! In such a never seen before iteration and weird shape, as well than giving likely what is the spec evo Multituberculate which is most imaginative ever made so far ! Aside, I really hype to see one day what will be the Bilaruk's relative inhabiting the Inland Sea of kairul and how the initial form of it will be named in the future :)

    There are some similarities to how elephants interact with ecosystems on land. Both have intense sexual selection with social females and solitary males as well as feeding strategies that tend to uproot a lot of vegetation, ecosystems will often homogenize if there is nothing to break up dominant plant life so having an animal that breaks up and destroys beds of the dominant plant life is beneficial. Large animals with destructive tendencies are vital in many ecosystems for this reason, pigs, elephants, and bears are all great examples. Where I live the main animal that fills this niche is Cervus canadensis, the large herds are vital for clearing the brush in our closed temperate rainforest and ensuring that as least some areas remain more open. Unfortunately moose are regionally extinct and no longer fill that role.
