Bikepacking the Munda Biddi Trail Ep.1 - Perth to Bidjar Ngoulin Hut

The 3 of us are finally back together for another epic adventure.
In this series we are riding the Munda Biddi Trail in Western Australia.
After Flying into Perth we make our way to Mundarring (the official start of the Munda Biddi) and dive into the unknown... soon finding the track conditions are tougher than expected.

No crocs round this corner of Australia, they start at around 1,500km North of here. Surprisingly not nearly as bad as it might seem. I did the whole trail recently with a lot of night riding hours and I think I only copped about a dozen spider webs, all empty. Two snakes, one dead, spotted in the last 120km. Snakes aren't too bad if you keep yourself on the bike, although I'm told they're a bigger risk to following riders.

Thanks guys - great video. I’ve been dreaming of doing the MB for a year or more. Quick question when you get some downtime, is there a reason you’re double-hutting? And would you recommend this approach?

Cheers mate, we had time constraints due to work. Some of the days were very long and hard. I would suggest taking more time. Also a bit more time to check out the towns along the way would be nice.

It was the start of May. During the day it was low 20s but it got very cold at night. I would suggest going in October/November. Apparently there are alot of wild flowers during spring.

We did have the paper maps which we would read each night. But we mainly used a Garmin etrex with a preloaded route. If you search 'munda biddi' on 'Ride with GPS' app, you'll find lots of downloadable maps.

So you went without tents the whole way and relied on the huts ?

Yes just huts and motels. The trail is designed so that there is somewhere to sleep approx every 50kms

Great video. I'm reliving the trail as I've recently become obsessed with it, though will leave it a while before going back after my 3d16h ride to Albany :p You guys look like a great group to ride with. You can hit me up via @nitestick_velo if you happen to come back to it again and need a riding buddy from Perth.
