Tightest clearance is at the chainstay, about 54mm. The Gravelking slicks on mine measure-out to 40mm. It looks right and I wouldn't want to squeeze the clearance any more. Cheers.

Boston has run 40c Maxxis ramblers with no issue. However he wouldn't go any bigger.

I see Mr Ritchey every now and then (for years) out on some of our local trails in the South Bay on a road bike. Serious underbiker! He's still doing it and has been doing so before MTBs existed. Lots of us old 'off roadies' did it too. I started riding up Stevens Canyon trail on a tubular equipped steel race bike in 1975. Tom looks pretty healthy to me! Pretty fast for an 'old guy' too. Just do what I did..... find a used frame, thats barely used. Thats the best value. Really sweet frames!
