Biggest Hawk Back to the Wild | Release of Ferruginous Hawk
Үй жануарлары мен аңдар
A Ferruginous Hawk arrived on October 8th. After an examine, Martin determined the hawk had an injury from getting stuck on a barb wire fence. Based on the condition of the hawk's wing, it is likely the hawk managed to get free before extensive damage or breaks.
This hawk stayed at our rescue center just over three weeks to heal then was released up at the C-Overlook, a safe location to give the hawk some time to reorient himself and return safely back the wild.

🔺 Our Mission 🔺
Founded in 1997 in Cedar City Utah, we are a 501c3 non-profit organization dedicated to wildlife rescue and rehabilitation, wildlife and environmental education, and the development of the Cedar Canyon Nature Park.
Rescue, Rehabilitate and Release
The Southwest Wildlife Foundation of Utah (SWF) cares for more than 100 sick, injured and orphaned native wildlife annually. Restoring them to health and returning them to the wild is our primary goal, but for those that cannot be released due to disabilities, the Cedar Canyon Nature Park (CCNP) can provide them with a permanent home in a natural setting while enhancing our visitors educational experience at the park.
Informing, Educating and Inspiring
The SWF provides over 100 educational programs reaching over 30,000 people annually. We believe providing educational outreach programs to schools, scout groups and community events, with focus on children and families, will make the greatest impact in preserving our wildlife, the environment, our public lands and our resources for future generations to enjoy.
Martin Tyner
Since age twelve, with a bird on his arm, Martin has captivated audiences sharing his knowledge and experience of his wildlife friends.
At age nineteen, Martin was hired as curator of birds of prey at Busch Gardens, CA. He also worked in the movie and television industry training big cats, elephants, primates, sea mammals and raptors.
“One of my greatest childhood fantasies was the desire to create a personal friendship with a wild eagle. I found myself with a love and fascination for these powerful creatures.”
Martin Tyner is a federally licensed falconer, eagle falconer, wildlife rehabilitator, wildlife propagator, and wildlife and environmental educator.
He has been providing wildlife and environmental programs throughout the western United States, to schools, scouts and community groups for over fifty years.
“Grandpa believed in a very simple philosophy; that a person should get up every morning and do good. Doing good means that you do well for others and doing well means that you do good for yourself. There is nothing wrong with doing well, but Grandpa always believed in doing good.”
Martin's book, Healer of Angels, reflects back on his life: from a young boy terrified of birds to becoming the first man in North America licensed to train a wild golden eagle in the ancient art of falconry.
Through a heartwarming collection of true stories he describes his challenging transformation from a shy dyslexic teenager, to the founder and CEO of the Southwest Wildlife Foundation.

Thank you on behalf of the bird! 😃👍 But couldn't you make the release easier for yourself and the animal? 🤔 Wildlife Aid in Surrey, GB, doesn't grab the birds for taking them out of the carrier. They just open the box and let the bird jump out on its own. 😉 How about? 👍
Martin is a very special guy who has made a huge contribution to the betterment of society and to birds of prey.. A life well lived.

Thank you Martin and Susan for fixing this beautiful Hawk up and releasing! (Ferrugy) I have a rescue story. Many years ago a Hawk was inside my neighbors screened in porch. The door was left open and the Hawk was trapped inside and was making a huge ruckus trying to get out but could not find the door and was actually trying to bust his way through the screened windows. I thought he was going to injure himself if not kill himself so I grabbed a broom went over, stepped inside the porch, my heart pounding because he was looking at me like if you come any closer I will kill you lady!!! Yes he looked humongous! I walked around behind him and with the broom tried guiding him towards the door, after minutes going by, it finally worked and out the door he went flying away! I felt so happy that he got free! Hope I didn’t bore you too bad--😊 Take care Martin and Susan!!!

Hi again MARTIN &SUSAN ...and another YAY!! Such a large beautiful hawk with a more unusual name. Does the name have history an origin? Always strong and powerful I'm thinking like other creatures they too are vulnerable to deadly injuries. So wonderful Martin how within a couple minutes of examination you have your diagnosis and go into action with a plan to save their lives. Wonderfully more times you release them to fly the skies and live on once again. Thx as always for sharing. Hoping you will have a Happy Thanksgiving. We all are so thankful for you both !!

Just a marvelous job with that Fergie. With at least one random KZreadr out there you accomplished your mission: I actually learned some things about Ferruginous Hawks (I'm an eastie so Red-Tails are the common one around here) and it is always a pleasure seeing a master falconer at work - a cheesed off big buteo that cornered itself in a pet carrier is NOT easy to get out of there without one of you getting hurt! But watching you make it look easy was quite informative. Thank you!

When you mention that it is the "Largest hawk" it makes me curious if you weigh them? And if you do if you ever say, "This guy is half the size he WILL BE when fully grown". I may have missed it if you did post that. BUT I am always curious of the size when you say BIG I wonder where that particular one is on that size scale. I have some HUGE Turkey Vultures here and they look twice the size of your guy. AS WELL AS a LOT of Hawks that sure look REALLY BIG! BTW I am in Maine. (ALSO when are they fully grown, at what age?)

I watched a Ferruginous Hawk perched on top of a horse shelter lying in wait for a Great Blue Heron who was silently stalking a gopher in a field to catch one. When the heron finally drove his enormous bill into the hole and plucked one out. the hawk swooped down and the heron dropped the gopher and the Ferruginous grabbed it and flew away. Always felt bad for that heron who did all of the the work.

Hi don’t know if you check comments or not but I was just curious I have recently started watching you’re channel and have a question when you rescue eagles and hand feed them I know it’s because there weak at the start but over time do they not learn that you’re helping them/feeding them as once there healthy they go back to fearing and wanting to avoid human contact.
