    I always keep a brush just for topcoats. But I never thought about keeping a separate brush for primers.

    the filler with primer can be applied in multiple coats. But it can take several coats Not a substitute for patching and filling holes You shouldn’t wait more than 10 mins between coats. i restore vintage garden items and it works great in multiple layers Abut not a substitute for patching materials.

    I just dd a dresser using fusion paint for the first time. I like to spray. I did not thin it. If I was to thin fusion paint for spraying what is the ratio?

  • @BorninaBarnBoutique

    @BorninaBarnBoutique

    2 жыл бұрын

    It differs for colors as well. Dark colors are thinner consistency - It’s hard to give you an exact ratio. I advise getting a viscosity cup and each sprayer typically comes with one. Fusion is pretty thin consistency but thinning a bit really helps to creating a beautiful smooth finish. I start on the conservative side and go up if I need.

    As always, your videos are sooo super helpful! Question for you: I just finished painting my cabinet doors with Melange One paint. I love how beautiful they came out, no brush strokes and just enough sheen. I then went and used a satin Rustolium top coat that added way too much sheen and major brush strokes. I am so bummed out! What do you recommend we use to sand and buff the surface? I'd like them to look just the way they did when we only used the paint. Thanks so much!

  • @BorninaBarnBoutique

    @BorninaBarnBoutique

    2 жыл бұрын

    Thank you so much! Thats such a bummer when that happens. Adding a topcoat is totally ok to a product that has one already in it, but it can be challenging, as topcoating is one of the harder parts of the painting process. So you will have to sand (I suggest a higher grit that hopefully won't break through your paint, but know it can happen. I would start with an 800 and see if that makes any dent, if not drop down to 400 grit and not heavy handed, you will see the clear coat sand away and just work it lightly all over until you are happy, you will then be ready to paint after wiping down. When topcoating, using an extender helps and a higher quality topcoat as well as a specific top coat brush.

    Great video. Do you think the primer in fusion is enough to prevent bleed?

  • @BorninaBarnBoutique

    @BorninaBarnBoutique

    2 жыл бұрын

    Thank you! No, as the matter of fact I have talked to Fusion exactly about this, the built in primer is not going to prevent bleed through! Priming is a word used for multiple reasons, often connected to bleed through blocking in which this case the answer would be no. Only shellac based formulas can block tannins and bleed through. But yes in the sense of, a start to finish paint that can seal minimal stains and almost always doesn’t need the extra hold help for surface prep.

    I know shellac is good for bleeding but is is also good as a bonding primer?

  • @BorninaBarnBoutique

    @BorninaBarnBoutique

    2 жыл бұрын

    Yes Shellac is one of the best stain blocking primers and as long as you are using the dewaxed shellac than yes you may use with water based products and it will adhere just fine. I wouldn't tote this as an adhesive primer, but its properties will work just fine for most water based paints to adhere to.
