If you want to talk about other continents, Argentina x Brazil is the big one in South America. Since colonial times, Portugal and Spain disputed the control of the Plata river basin, leading to Uruguai being annexed to Brazil for a decade. Upon independence, immediate war between Argentina and Brazil began over Uruguai, resulting in its imdependence as a buffer state. When the Rosa dictatorship took over Argentina, Brazil invaded and took him down with the help of the Argentinian opposition. Then relations got somewhat better by having a common enemy in the Paraguay war and there was never another war between them. Both are in the same economic block today, the Mercosul. Being the two biggest and most resourceful states in the continents really fuels the rivalry, although now it’s mostly reserved to Football.

With Belgium there's some kind of grudge and today Belgium is basically their only rival although not politically or militarily speaking. Both people share a lot in common and there's always bickering between the two especially the people of Wallonia. With Italy they are rivals since the Napoleonic wars. Napeleon invaded them and installed a puppet state there, that's even why the Italian flag today looks so much like the French flag- it's inspired from it. Also, Italy still claim part of the Alpes as belonging to them and want it back from France. Maybe Spain is a special case but that's only because of the geography and because the two countries are almost completely isolated from each other because of the Pyrenees.

Greece 'ruling' over parts of Anatolia is not a valid point, as when Greeks inhabited those lands, Turks or Turkic peoples had not even migrated to the area. Turkic people came around 1000 years after the ancient Greeks to the region as Ottoman conquerers from Asia. Greeks are technically indigenous to the land. @Zeynep Ezgi Su Simsar Both using Agglutination is not really a strong claim for genetic relation (if at all), as literally half of the world uses Agglutination and Agglutination is a typological feature, that does not even imply a linguistic relation, because it can arise and be lost in languages relativly spontaneous.

@Zeynep Ezgi Su Simsar Sorry for you, but no. Ther are Niger-Congo languages using it, the Berbers did, the Basques do, as did a number of American Natives (e.g. Cree, Eskimos, Nahuatl). In Asia it is used by Indian, Indonesian, Japanese, Tibetan and Turkish languages and to claim all of those are interconnected is kinda ludicrous. Especially considering that most Chinese languages are not included in the list.

Se optassem por um ponto de união ao invés de depreciarem as regiões do vosso país se e mostram diferentes neste projecto , simplesmente respeitassem quem que manter a identidade da sua região (alteridade) , ganhariam muito mais. Sometimes they were rulled independently by their own monarchs, or other times they were rulled by the same monarch as the others. (Example: When the King of Aragon united the kingdoms of Aragon, Catalonia and Valencia, those realms became known as the Crown of Aragon. When the king of Castille united the kingdoms of Galicia, Leon and Castille, that became known as the crown of Castille.) By the time of the Portuguese independence, Portugal was a county of the kingdom of Galicia. But the kingdoms of Galicia, Leon and Castille were united under the Crown of Leon. Therefore, Portugal fought and won its independence, from the Crown of Leon (which is basically what you were saying anyway). The name "kingdom of Castille and Leon" comes from people confusing the name of the realm (Crown of Leon) with the titles of the king: "King of Galicia, Leon and Castille".

In Malta, we have some City/Town Rivalries, mainly in Sport (Football/Soccer). Some of them being: -Valletta (Capital) vs Floriana (A Village which initially started out in the 1700s as a Suburb of Valletta) > This rivalry started from ages ago but started heating up as a Neighbourhood Rivalry due to Football (Soccer). > To this day we still fight against each other even if we're not speaking about football. > We fight for the Triton Fountain (which TRULY! belongs to us, Valletta), and the VALLETTA Waterfront. -Valletta (Capital) vs Birkirkara (2nd biggest Town in Malta ~22,000) > This rivalry also started due to football mainly since 1997, when we (Valletta) won 3 Leagues in a Row (1997-1999), and Birkirkara (still with a total of 0 Leagues) finishing as a Runner-Up (1997- 1999). Birkirkara then won the next League, when we (Valletta) finished in 2nd place. -Valletta (Capital) vs Hamrun (Town of ~9,000 inhabitants) > This rivalry (again) also started due to football in the late 1970s, when (till 1990) both teams were the best in Malta. > However in Malta, we have some Catholic Feast Traditions which we invented years ago. > Valletta celebrates the Feasts of; St. Dominic of Guzman, Our Lady of Mount Carmel, St. Augustine of Hippo and St. Paul the Apostle. > Hamrun celebrates the Feasts of; St. Cajetan (and a small feast of; St. Joseph) > Hamrun says that the feast of St. Cajetan is the nicest/best due to having a big buzz and a beautiful Festa Band. > We (Valletta) say that ours are better because unlike them we don't fight with other Festa Bands of our own, we're united. .... There are more rivalries such as the Cottonera rivalries (Cottonera in English: The Three Cities). If you wish to know more about Malta, in general, please do tell and ask me.

An interesting city rivalry was between Melbourne and Sydney in Australia. The rivalry was so strong that it lead to the creation of a new city to be the national capital but the rivalry continues today although, it seems more lighthearted today but it has divided communities along cultural and sporting lines and even lead to the creation of two separate football codes and other cities and states declaring allegiance to one or the other (northern states with Sydney, southern states with Melbourne). The differences infiltrated many areas such as different road rules, railway gauges, etc.

Troy was essentially a Greek city state (the Trojan war was practically a civil war) not to mention Greeks were indigenous to Anatolia for around 2 thousand years before the Turkic arrival - we didn't "invade" it. Hahahaha. What a load of waffle, Greeks are not the original inhabitants of Anatolia. Just because you were the most advanced civilisation at the time, invading disparate Anatolian and Caucasian tribes doesn’t mean that it wasn’t an invasion, Greeks are the OG colonisers. @@BlackadderFunk literally the smallest amount of research from ANY source (non-Greek) will show you that there is zero link between the original inhabitants of Anatolia and Greece. First you colonised the Aegean coastline, pushing the Lydians out, then later moving north and south down the coastlines, colonising the Black Sea and Mediterranean coastlines of Anatolia (commons.m.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Map_Anatolia_ancient_regions-en.svg#mw-jump-to-license). Troy wasn't a Greek city-state either lmao, Trojan's were most likely Luwian, scholars everywhere unanimously agree that Trojan's are only Greekified for the Greek epics, but that this is obviously false and pure creation. Original inhabitants of Anatolia were either Indo-European or Kartvelian, there is zero link between their languages and the Greeks, and there is no source anywhere that indicates that Greeks weren't later arrivals to Anatolia. Again, just because you were the primary people who recorded the history of this region, mythisising it and coming up with most of the modern names still used for it, does not mean that it was Greek in origin. There is literally no non-Greek source that would even begin to support this claim. Find me even a single one and I will consider this matter even slightly worth discussing. Because as it currently stands, even one second-one hour of research would show even the most unobservant of children that Greeks were not at all original inhabitants of Anatolia, only beginning to colonise it in ancient times, starting with the coastlines and later moving inland. You pushed the Kartvelian tribes in the north-east out, and you pushed the various Indo-European tribes in the north, west and south out. There is ZERO information to discredit this being the objective truth. The difference between me and you is that while you let your nationality cloud your judgement and research capabilities, I review ALL of the sources, even when they do not favour my nations views. Stop doing what you accuse others of and stealing their history in order to advance an agenda.

The wars of independence for Scotland happened in the 13th century, and no Scotland wasn’t ocupied for several decades. depending on how you define occupation, it was 2 at most. Also the ransom part was simply wrong, there was the time when Scotland’s king was kidnapped by the lion-heart and was ransomed for a large amount, but that was a long time before invasion and it wasn’t in exchange to withdraw forces, Robert the Bruce was the reason the English withdrew in the 13th century, by getting the popes recognition, and razing all of Scotland’s castles to the ground so that the English couldn’t use them to control Scotland’s population. To keep the pressure he also raided England’s northern towns every year until Edward the second recognised Scottish sovereignty. You got like. Nothing right. How?

I don't think you realise, or appreciate how important national identity is in this. The English and French have eachahad a unified national identity, for a 1100 years, the Germans, Italians, Spanish and other European countries do not have even "half" of that (E.g.: Germany didn't exist until 1871, and the German states considered themselves separate identities, entirely), with the exception of the Scandinavian countries, who were not in dirrect conflict with these other 2 Behemoth's, after the initial Viking age. This is why Britain versus France, is "by far" the greatest rivalry or you might say "relationship", in human histtory. Just look around the world and you can see how dramatic the impact of this has been, not just positively, in terms of national internal structural influence, technological and scientific innovations and infrastructure legacy, but also Negatively, in virtually every conflict zone, Globally

@@camm8642 It depends on what you consider rivalry I guess.I was thinking of what the people in the regions we refer to as these countries now, would feel "collectively" as a group, towards those in those other landmasses over the course of time,as that is how we identify now. We're not talking about polarised emotional feelings in this and the last couple of generations. The Brits and the French have been allies since the Napoleonic wars, in 1815, so if you asked a random Brit or frog, neither would recognise a rivalry", In fact, neither would think about each other at all, due to nothing happening, even requiring being allies for nearly 4 generations. For that matter, neither would any person from a nationstate in Europe, because we don't any more anxiety towards each other like Pakistan and India, or S and N Korea do now But from the end of the Second World War, right back to "at least" the 12th century, and maybe even further back (the English began to get national identity in the mid-800s, after Alfred the great got consistent victories against the Vikings, the Frankish kings were not so successful against them so that national identity probably began 100/200 years later, drawing the population groups together and officially all people identifying and feeling French rather than e.g.a citizen of Aquitaine) Throughout this incredibly long period I mentioned the people within England and the people within France, both would have had a kind of xenophobia rivalry towards each other. France' citizens feelings towards those on the continent, would have been completely different to what they are now as the nation states, delineation and different identities were entirely different. The French people would have had a completely different set of feelings towards Prussia, than they did towards Bavaria, Saxony, Castile, Lombardy, Tuscany, Naples, et cetera Before "official" national unifications, local histories were taught and customs delivered by word-of-mouth at such a early rudimentary time.identity was felt in line with your state, if your country had not been officially ratified and significant time had taken place since that date for the new identity to begin to embed amongst the population groups

@@camm8642 It's important to immerse yourself in context to really understand as well, for example, Henry V, wrecked through France, winning virtually every battle and occupied all the important regions of France for several decades as early as the 15th century, the French only turning the tide with Henry dying of dysentery whilst occupying and his son being a child led to infighting between barons, for power within England. He brought a predominantly Anglo-Saxon army, who would have been resented for decades. From this point forwards, it's absolutely certain that the people within those French regions would have fostered some resentment and rivalry towards the English, even more so than it would have been felt the other way around

Sweden - Denmark kind of having world record of war between two nations. Thousand years of war and battles over and over again. They even have one of the worlds bloodiest battles (not biggest, but bloodiest compare to both army-size) on their CV. If I am not mistaken in my memory that is The Battle of Lund.

To be fair to the Greeks, the Turks didn't come from Anatolia. It was just part of Greece, Rome and then the Byzantine empire until it got taken by the Turks
