People would’ve liked the Lorax more if this movie made it to the Final Cut. It gives off a Pink Floyd kind of feel with how the song is constructed. The way it builds is similar to how the Onceler is building his company then it slows at the very end, knowing it’s too late to go back now. I’m doing no harm!” Scene, and then, when things truly get out of hand, have Biggering! Edit: I forgot to explain why. Have just the first verse of HBCIB with the “there’s a principle of nature” part, and then, later in the movie, after the Lorax’s part in Biggering, have the OnceLer say “Did you not listen to me the FIRST time we had this argument?” And sing the “principle of nature” part from Biggering.

Yes. This. _Biggering_ is not only a fantastic song, but the existence of _How Bad Can I Be?_ As a lighter, more sanitized version of it actually adds to its impact. Having the audience first hear _How Bad Can I Be?_ and then later on get a darker, realer version of it would have a jaw-dropping effect. I'd also keep the line "Who cares if a few trees are dying?" in _How Bad Can I Be?_ it pairs nicely with the line "Who cares if _some things_ are dying?!" in _Biggering._

Imagine: O’Hare’s fresh air empire has aggressively expanded to the point of bleeding away the townspeople’s quality of life, and Ted, who has just received the last remaining seed, is on the run from O’Hare’s goons to the chaotic tune of the second half of the song. O’Hare himself watches the progress of the separate manhunt for Ted, his family, and his female friend through street cameras and surveillance drones. O’Hare has become the Onceler 2.0. The original Onceler at the same time, sits alone in his home, reflecting on his past misdoings, having spared Ted this disturbing part of his story.

I love the visual combination with the lyrics at 4:30. When the lyrics "Who cares if some things are dying?" comes up, the Lorax saves a barbaloot from being killed by a machine. It implies that a few have been killed before or after, which makes it even darker (and thus more amazing) with this taken into mind. I would have loved the dark tone of the original animation in the movie, with a bigger focus on the original story. It's annoying how much the new version centers on a plot that didn't even exist in the book. Though it adds a bit of insight into the lasting effects caused by the Onceler's actions, the movie barely touches down on the original story. Which means it can barely even be called an "adaptation". We need yet another remake, one including this tone and Biggering.

biggering gives us a villain who knows what he's doing. it gives us a villain who doesn't care. it mimics billionaires and corporations who own sweatshops, who underpay their workers, who pollute the air and the ground and want to build fucking factory towns to expand their operations. they don't care who they have to step on, who they have to destroy, to get on top. in a film where biggering is his theme, this is the onceler. how bad can i be gives us a villain who honestly doesn't get it. he's deluding the public (with lines like "a portion of proceeds go to charity"), but he's also deluding himself. we see a man who's corrupting himself with greed and doesn't realize it until it's too late. the lyrics would be more powerful if it had a similar tune to this song, but it's vaguely reminiscent of modern pop and doesn't pack nearly the same punch -- and since the song grows gradually darker, we still get that idea that he just really, really doesn't _get it._ we deserved a film that told billionaires to go shove it. what we got was a watered-down version of something that could've been great, just so it would be more digestible. the original message is what makes kids' movies memorable even years after they're released. the easy one, it's forgettable.
THE BEST SHOULD HAVE MORE SUPPORT
If this was the film we got, the film would have been a lot deeper
Dr Suess would've been proud bro
4:22 That part is really good. The images flashes to give you a wide idea of everything the Once-Ler is doing to keep is business growing, while the environment is getting completely destroyed.
Great Work, love the cartoon, love the song and this is a great combination of the two.
i love this song, i really do, at the end, where it gets more extreme you can just feel the environment collapsing, the industry growing, people getting poorer per day, and the world falling more and more apart, its also really dope tbh
The song actually works better with this version's tone (the tone the film should have had.)
Hey, listen up, meathead I'm going to say this once, and I'm not gonna repeat it Greed ya see, it's like a little pet, alright? And the more and more and more that you go and feed it The more hungry it'll get But you know, you really can't blame greed No, that's stupid You see, it's gotta worm inside Oh yeah, that's right It's one that always needs to feed And it is never satisfied You get it? But the more you try to find it The more it likes to hide Now listen that is nasty little worm And I like to call it pride See, now that's why you're biggering Listen here, idiot I'm figuring on biggering But that biggering's just triggering more biggering Got that? Alright

The fact that this could’ve been avoided and more profitable if the once-ler just cut the thneeds off the trees and left them in the ground is wild to me
I find this song with this animation very dark especially with the oncelers hands being the only thing shown in his appearance it give it a more dark and greedy take maybe showing how the hands are used to touch and take things...

The point of the onceler is that he could be anyone, which is why only his gloved hands and arms are shown, because it could be you or me under those gloves. To go further, the road to hell is paved with good intentions. The Onceler isn't a bad person, he's a completely average person who's stumbled upon a golden goose, and his indecision and rationalisations and cavalierness have inadvertently resulted in the destruction of the environment. That's why I'm not a super big fan of the Biggering song in the story sense, because it does makes the Onceler seem self-aware, and doesn't carry the idea that doing nothing isn't enough super well.

I feel like how bad can I be and biggering could have existed together. How bad can I be showing the greed blinding the onceler to his actions, and then biggering showing him slowly realizing the damage he’s done, but choosing to continue anyway

The slower pace of teh song helps with one other aspect, it's often very easy to lose track of how bad things are getting because it sneaks up.
