Bigger Flies Better - FMS Super Cub 1700mm Review
Ойын-сауық
The FMS Super Cub 1700mm is just like the 1300mm, except it's bigger. And it flies better as a result. It's almost as easy to transport and handles much more gracefully in the sky. The servos are better, the flight characteristics are better, and in general - it's just a better airframe. While not exactly a beginner's aircraft, it's $299 - hardly the most expensive one out there, and a great value with floats too!

Happy to help, thank you!
I'm so glad you did this reveiw I fly mine on 6s and it's a beast with air filled tires too also super robust
This is what I have been eyeing up as my first purchase alongside a Radiomaster Boxer transmitter to dip my feet into the hobby of RC, I'm interested in planes and helicopters
Great video!! I'd have to go with the 1300, mostly as a size thing. A couple of wiring mods to the main wing for removal and all is good. AirHammer out!!
I’ve felt conflicted over not spending the extra $100 for the 1700mm version of this plane, but since I pretty much only do bush flying with my cub I’m glad I got the 1300.

The 1300 flys flat out amazing on 4s 2200. Iv been eyeing this 1700..
Great airplane Jon. They fly really good. Nice slips. In my mind it's illegal to land a Cub without a slip...Lol.
I agree this is a great plane and have so much fun with mine but I agree with Markmcc21 that the plastic struts are the worst, just ordered a new set yesterday and waiting for them to get here. I have a couple of other planes so no down time.
Thank you so much for making this video. I think I’m going to go with the 1300 mm now just because it will have a better power to weight and the wheels and suspension can take my crappy landings oh so much better 😂😂.
I fly my 1300 Super Cub on 4s SMC 2800 mAh. And I’ve even flown mine with 3200 4s. She’s also a blast to fly with CNHL 1500mAh 4s. Just get the CG right and stuff the RX as far back as you can in the fuselage and it’s one of the best off my Bush planes . The Tires on the 1300 may be inflated but dry rot and leak like crazy. I’d rather have Foam FMS Maule M7 wheels on my 1300. The 1700 mm look tempting buy why bother since I already own the better little brother.😊
What I didn't like about this plane was the wing support braces are so weak. They are very brittle and break in multiple places. Mine fell off my stand and broke so needed to order a new set. They even broke in other places when dismantling. Also the motor is very small for the size of the plane. I installed the FMS Beaver 550kv motor on 6s. Much better but im sure the wings will break off soon. The smaller one is more fun when fitting the FMS Voodoo motor on 5s. It's so much lighter, agile and is a little rocketship buy again the plane will break apart soon. Basically need to pull out all glued in parts and glue them in again with more hot glue. I've also reinforced the hinges with tape.

We didn't see any of the brittleness issues you're referencing. Might have been a bad batch of plastic. Ours seemed solid enough. Good to know!
I fly at a desert hard dirt full size runway. The elevation is 3400 feet which makes a difference for RC aircraft. It’s often times warm as well. I also have pretty much unlimited space to fly with no obstacles so size is really not a concern. Without a doubt the larger 1700 would be better. Not sure this is a fair question but, how would you compare this aircraft to the turbo timber evolution? Currently looking at both. Thank you.

You can generally get an idea of how we'd compare them by watching this vid immediately afterward: kzread.info/dash/bejne/qWSj3KewpNjgfKw.html TL;DW: If you want to make a bush plane do limited 3D, the Timber is a better choice. If you want to fly slower and in tighter areas without worrying about stalling as easily, the Super Cub 1700 is a better choice.

Yea, after watching everything and looking over some other vids I’m going to go Timber. I mean it does everything that other one does but more. And it can be flown docile with long flight times or go aerobatic to a good degree. Thank you for your feedback!
I have a reused 1.7m SuperCub, newly set up with AR631/NX8. Plane is otherwise stock from the factory from the first owner. Am I able to set up thrust reverse on the ESC it came with ? If so, how do I set it up? (I am flying on floats/water 100% of the time).
@TwoBrosRC

You should be able to, so long as there's a spare signal lead coming off the throttle cable. That would go into the spare port on your receiver, then you make sure to set that channel to a switch in Channel Assign. It'll be easier to help on our Discord via bit.ly/TBRCDiscord
Just ordered mine thanks for 10$ off .. subscribed 👍🏼

You mentioned reverse thrust, did FMS update the ESC on the 1700mm to give this as an option? I wasn’t aware of this capability.
@TwoBrosRC
8 ай бұрын
Yeah, the ESC has a signal lead coming off it for just that purpose.

@@TwoBrosRC mine is coming soon, but i have never programmed an FMS ESC before, so it will be a learning experience for me. I haven't even been able to find a video of anyone doing it. Can you expand on how it is achieved? Plug the lead into an empty channel and assign a switch? Just like for a Avian ESC thru forward programming?
@rickwentworth6842

the more I search, the more I think your are referring to the 1300mm version. I am happy to be wrong though.
@TwoBrosRC

Yep, you just plug the second signal lead into the receiver's empty port and assign a switch to it.
I have a question, the FMS super cub 1700 is Impermeable (don't damages with the water)?
@TwoBrosRC
6 ай бұрын
It's made of foam so it floats in water, but submersing any of the electronics will make them fail. Water splashing against it is fine though.
Will the 1700mm version floats fit the FMS Maule? I feel the Maule floats are small for the size of the plane.
@TwoBrosRC
9 ай бұрын
The floats themselves are identical. The only difference is mounting hardware. The Super Cub's hardware will not fit the Maule or vice versa.

So i guess flying the 1700 model on 4s 3600 would be too much weight? I was going to get the1700 because i need a back up model for my 4 - 4s 3600mah lipo batteries.
