Just because you phrase something as a yes or no question doesn't mean it is (e.g., "did you stop beating your wife yet?"). You can't squeeze 2 minutes of meandering ranting into a single question and expect a response with absolutely no nuance. That's ridiculous. If that's "how things are done", then they should be done differently, because this is just fucking stupid.

A yes or no is basically a death sentence, unless that yes o no directly helps you to prove you did nothing wrong. That's why they all say "i don't remember", "i disagree". Those words mean nothing, that's why they don't reply with yes or no.

Lots of reasons . I got a few . 1. It runs the clock out on who's asking the questions. 2 . Also helps to prevent a question that they may not have a prepared answer to.

The thing is, some of these congresspeople state misleading facts or premises then launch into a “Yes or No question” which answering yes or no to would be incredibly misleading. That’s why context and nuance matters, and some of these discussion ended up being useless

They intentionally phrase these questions to make them seem to invade our privacy but at the end of the day, it's an algorithm that analyzes your data to give you a personalized web experience, if you don't want this quality of life aspect that can be quite useful you can simply disable it with the settings that the law has forced them to implement, you can also see all of your data.

@@zzzaaalll facebook definitely has NOT been thinking anout how to buy google. Google is much MUCH larger than facebook, and i dont think many people comprehend that. ABC Company is incredibly well backed and Google’s Search engine AI that is used for google and youtube is almost a decade ahead than the next closest competitor (Bing got in trouvle for literally using google’s ai, copying search results exactly). Bottomline is, Google’s revenue and company size is significantly larger than facebook. If anything Google has probably inquired if they could buy facebook.

I’ve Never had face book, never will. 2 family members in cyber security strongly advise against it.

Let me break your bubble. You HAVE facebook, even without knowing it. Facebook builds shadow profiles for people who aren't logged in. Everytime somebody writes your name in a post, everytime somebody puts a photo on facebook with your face in it, everytime friends come over and connect to facebook over your wi-fi.... it takes that image of you and connects it to your name, your location & other various information. Then it uses it to identify you in a sea of anonymous information, further building your shadow profile. Google, Amazon, Apple, Twitter etc. They all do the same thing. They employ algorithms that can identify you based on only 5-6 key data points in an anonymous database, such as what you buy and at what time, what websites you visit, what you type & how fast you type etc. There is no privacy at this moment.

If you have ever had at it at a particular point they will still use you’re data after closing the account and moreover all these big companies communicate the data with each other so if you have an account here or you have searched something on google it will show up on Facebook marketing ads. It is very very messed up and all the big companies do that - Apple, Amazon, Google, Facebook, Microsoft, Twitter and others are all the same it’s a big monopoly and they need to be broken up.

Amazon basics is designed to look at the items that are best selling on amazon then undercut the competition.

Privacy and data security is not not a simple matter. Answers can’t only be a yes or no. If it’s a sensitive matter, treat it accordingly. To ask hard questions is more than ok but yes or no won’t solve the problems we have with them.

Somehow I find it funny how they don't expect companies to copy each other. That is typical practice, I work in product management and one of the first lessons I learned (at least from presentations and online talks) is that you should not be afraid to be a thief.

Somehow I find it funny that you find it funny as why the question was even being asked . If the answer is so cut and dry with these companies as to how they get information about competing companies, then why has it been so problematic to get a straight answer . I mean if EVERYBODY should know the answer , (that being it's standard practice based upon your type of criticism) and that the person asking the question is ignorant somehow or duh er uh uh duh. What customer service? That requires two humans minimum talking with their mouths face-to-face. It's a lie. Just like the other lies; "friends". They aren't. "social media". It's not. But there is antisocial media...facebook, twitter, snapchat, the entire internet....

The responses from the CEOs for many of these questions should simply be "false". The questions are distorting the truth which makes them false. These CEOs need to be assertive with these incompetent people with biased agendas.

When you get a new computer now. All the settings are on for all your information to be sent to all companies. You have to find each company one at a time to turn them off. Instead of the opposite. Letting you chose if there is a single site you would want to share personal information with.

They ask questionable questions and didn't expect follow ups but only accepts a YES or NO. Why even?

If people are so scared about their data potentially being shared, then why not just delete all social media accounts and stop using them?

Yeah you can change that in your settings except for the ones that you can no longer use their products unless you agree to their agendas and fine print rhetoric.

THE ENTITIES ARE NOT ANSWERING THE QUESTIONS ANYWAY.....WHEN IN A COURT OF LAW, IN A HEARING....IF THE WITNESS DOES NOT ANSWER THE QUESTION WITH A SIMPLE YES OR NO....IT BECOMES APPARENT TO THE QUESTIONER THAT THEY ARE NOT GOING TO ANSWER THE QUESTION BUT CIRCLE BACK TO THEIR PRE-CHOSEN NONSENSE TO AVOID ANSWERING.

I don't understand, they ask questions then atleast let them answer. They don't even let these CEOs talk & interrupt in between. Just watching their behaviour pissed me off!

Tim cooks can open up a credit card under my name, for some reason there's something about his face & demeanor that I couldn't get mad at LOL

Jeff Bezos looks very believable with his facial expression and manner of speech. Looks like he's a very well versed veteran in handling these kinds of conversations.

because they fail to answer a yes or no answer with "yes" or "no," and they cut them off with a "oh so you did" and if they did they would stay quiet, if they didn't they would respond with "no we did not." its a really smart move.

Members of Congress have limited time to ask questions, and to get answers. Those millionaires know this. Yet they always, no matter what, give ridiculously long, never ending responses, forcing the member of congress to cut them off. _ _ This serves 2 purposes: (1) they get away with not answering the question, and (2) they want sympathy since they "weren't given enough time to answer".

All the questions should be answered with "Yes and No" So that the Congress will be more interested to hear the explanation.

Very good homework and pointed questions by Congress. I haven't seen these top CEOs so nervous anytime before while answering any questions.

Many of these companies/services will probably be replaced with public distributed protocols in the future. Because the reason they become successful is the size of the network, but then they are competing in the marketplaces that they referee, which doesn't work out in the end. There is a massive amount of research in distributed, peer-to-peer, content-oriented, smart contracts, etc., etc. that is maturing rapidly and eventually people will realize that they can and should be deployed to resolve some of these issues.

Users donot have time to look into 1000s of settings, they simply accept and use it. Its the Google responsibility to assure minimum privacy and security by default

Giving 10 seconds to answer a complex question at a congress hearing is not what a big democracy should work like...

I would really have enjoyed hearing responses ,but they cut them off ,making me feel there not really giving any chance.
