Big Shiny Rocks! Polishing Agates, Agatized Coral, Galaxy Stone, & More on my New Vibratory Lap!

In this one, we use my new "not-so-new" Vibratory Lap to polish some rocks! I have had this amazing tool for quite awhile but just recently figured out how to use it, so I figured what better way to break it in than polishing a bunch of rocks! We selected a few beautiful Haunted Ridge agates, a fantastic Teepee Canyon agate, some agatized coral, a chunky amygdaloidal basalt, and a royal blue agate! Though I am still learning how to use it, I am so excited about the results we are getting! The mirror shine on those rocks has me planning what to do next! I hope you all enjoy this one, and I will have another one out soon!

Oh Wow! Those all came out wonderfully! And there isnt a favorite polish. They are what they are! That being said, the teepee canyon and the lace agate were my favorite, because they are awesomely beautiful! And you should be taken out back and flogged, for letting that vibratory lap sit there for 2 years! But, because you owned up to it, we are going to let it slide, this time! But dont let it happen again! Lol! They all look fabulous Theo! Thanks so much for sharing this!❤

Oh wow! I want one! It’s perfect for a 71 year old 😁. I finally started using my 10” hi-tech, but I have no way to polish my rocks, and some are big. I also want to polish slabs and try making rock mosaics on slate for my garden. I’m sort of glad you found it late. Perfect timing for me, haha. Thanks for sharing Theo. Looking forward to seeing and learning more.

Theo, you need a wind up turn table from a toy to set the polished rock with the Crystal pocket on the other side.. Then you could show Both sides when friends are over.. Love the great variety..

Nice video Theo! I have the same 10" vibralap. I find they are a pain to get level. But if you can they work amazing. Since i can never get mine level my pans wear down faster than normal on one side which ruins the pan. It's definitely the hardest tool I own to operate properly. Your first effort turned out great. Look forward to seeing more!

Love seeing the Shine on some of those rocks. Too bad you didn't watch Rockhounding Life years ago.. He & his sons use the vibratoryplate & put Huge rocks on it.. They made the "Slice of Cake" in the "Makers Challenge" a couple of years ago.. You would have started using it long ago.. Thanks for the Video..

I wish Covington would address how quickly those aluminum plates wear out. Or at least provide an alternative. I’ve started caulking in steel inserts but it’s significantly heavier and pretty sure will wear out the motor.

Would ceramic work? I've no idea, but aluminum seems so soft to use for something like that.

@@Doxymeister the grit absolutely eats it up. Even after a few months it chews up the homemade steel inserts I made.

🤝🤝🤝Dear friend, agate stone lover! I am very interested in watching your videos. I want to give you some advice. Before starting work on the vibrating machine, heat the stone not too much so that the hand can withstand it. Next, dilute the epoxy resin, heat it up a little and smear the microcracks in the stone. This way, the abrasive will not clog into the cracks.

Those big pieces came out beautifully (that teepee cyn was worth it). I love the concept of setting the grit and let the vib lap do its thing. I was curious- when you switched to that continuous rim blade on your covington, did you adjust the feed rate at all? Notice if the motor heated up faster? Ive been wanting to switch to continuous for that smooth cut, but was worried id smoke the motor.

Beuatiful...were these just prepped with slab saw or rock saw? Or was there some pre-vibratory smoothing with a grinder? Rocks should be generally flat cut b4 using? How to assess readiness? Maybe "lessons leatnrd" examples as you experimemt...thanks for showing us!
