Hey Mark, first time grower here in upstate NY. Planted a 1943 Keenan and she’s at 1100lbs. Your more than welcome to stop by for an interview anytime before Topsfield weigh off September 30. It might encourage other new growers? Love that cinderella pumpkin!

@@Worldwidegiantgrowers I'm guessing you may have never heard of a pumpkin hammock. Lol . My pumpkin started growing over the fence and one of few fruits was hanging there so I made it a hammock for it. Then it started packing weight on and 5 days later it blew out the bamboo spreader bar on the hammock and then I ended up snapping off the 30lb pumpkin trying to fix the hammock. Previous to that I snapped the lead attached to the back up pumpkin by mistake . Was fun for a first go around and will have a better plan next year and it won't be a Pumpkin hammock lol. Next year ill have a pumpkin paddock. Was a nice plant. The cultivar was giant atlantic or Atlantic something...I'm still looking for a missing piece of the label. I bought the seedling from a local nursery. I'm up on the island in Canada. .So are these seeds you S1's or F1's or how does that work for pumpkins

I love the hammock idea. I’ve seen that before.. However I’d like to grow them on the ground so that we have a better root system. Every leaf has a tsp root. Howard Dill Developed the seed line in the 70s. We have crossed pollinated the seeds for decades competition growers Have hand pollinated the seeds for the past five decades to create the monsters we are growing today. I’m not sure what they are considered but they are called the Atlantic giant pumpkin seed

Definitely keeping her grounded next year. Looks like the other pumpkin stopped growing when I accidently terminated the leader trying to keep it from going over the top of the fence where the elk would have terminated it for sure. I wonder do elk eat pumpkins?
god i wish these were still any gokd to eat after growing so big. but my god are they a spectacle either ways

You can eat most anything just depends how deep the hunger burns
Hey Bubba, new grower here. I have been noticing most everyone who grows has some sort of irrigation system. Would you be willing to be straight up with me regarding the amount of H20 that each plant needs? Yeah I have heard all about soil type sand vs clay, Rain vs dry, 1 inch per week, Blah blah blah. Like you always say you don't need a huge plant to have fun. Let's say 500 square feet, 15 foot fruit set with 18 secondaries. Ball park? Shift gears anyone pushing a 450 Clementz with success. I really feel like that seed did not get the attention it deserved. Feather in your cap for recognizing the 1885.5 ( the 1/2 lb often is forgotten) before it became cool. To be fair I did tell you last year we should be thinking 3000lbs, now the little fruit in UK has every finger that ever held a garden hoe crossed they can finish it. You poised the question what will the Werner be worth after two back to back world records, pumpkin heads are crazy. Your probably real close on the 1000 bucks. My guess over 700 the first auction. My question to you why do so many great small pumpkins with great genetics get passed up. The real problem I see is most growers don't grow in 300k greenhouses, with advanced waterings based on lab recommendations. I feel many pumpkins with great genetics waste away in the closet, shadowed by a heavy hitter's pick. I feel it also limits the genetic pool because now everyone will want Werner, McMullen, Mendi. In reality the best seed would be the one average "Joe" can stick in the ground second week of May and grow a 1500 pounder. I digress, please help me with watering strategy and I will see what I can do over here in New York with this 450 in my pocket. Have fun, I wish they all could be California...Raisins :)

Great post ! Yes as the sport grows more will grow the seeds we have.the 450 surely has a 2500 liber in it maybe a 3000. I still have a few left I may grow up myself before it’s over. 500 square-foot plant should land somewhere between 50 and 75 gallons of water a day. But the best system is stick your finger in the soil you can definitely overwater. I was overwatering my 2043. Had I watered the old half of the plant less later in the season I may have got the pumpkin to 2200 pounds. Hindsight is 2020. with the wind and the sun clouds temperature there is no exact water amount to live by each season. You must stick your finger in the soil 3 to 4 inches periodically throughout the patch and figure how much to water each day. Yes people will always follow the herd . we rush into Walmart we rush into Home Depot and all the big box stores. We are a herd mentality following the leader. When I actually the best deal may be found in a little mom and pop shop I know for a fact there are better deals (better Quality)in the mom-and-pop shops with that being said be an explorer grow more small seeds you may be the next guy that discovers the unknown silver bullet seed. Thank you for your great post.
