It's easy to get overwhelmed by all the Chateau repairs. You are a one man band. And, you run a car garage and a bar on top of it.
Don’t let the repairs get you frustrated. Try to address each one individually and then move on. It will be ok. Your chateau is beautiful and the setting is so pretty.
Phil, you do need to make an effort to faithfully record those scribblings on that attic wall. Before it's too late, History!
The plaster with the names and dates is absolutely a treasure. I hope you can preserve it in some way to keep it with the house.

I don't envy you.
To help you decipher the writing on the plaster you need Ryan, he has helped at the convent before with written work on a wall.hope you get help with your leaks. You sounded a little out of breath in the loft I hope you are looking after your health

Quite possible he was over heated in the attic, because when he opened the skylight, he let out a sigh. 😊
The thing I hate about leaks is that they travel along joists and finally make something wet a mile from the actual leak. What a glorious view from the skylight! Your roof looks to be in pretty good shape. Guttering is the bane of everyone's existence. The higher the building, the bigger the pain in the butt it is to fix.
This is just a suggestion. Perhaps if you take a picture of each stain, when you check next time you’ll be able to see the differences if there are any.❤

I take a pencil and trace around the border of the stain. Next time it rains, see if the stain has gone beyond the border.

Billy cameraman is a climber. Videographer I mean. Alex. Think you already know him. He has started his own utube channel. He can make an awesome video of any challenge that comes to him. Action man!😂😂😮😮
I don't know what kind of birds have been living the high life in the horror movie attic but they've been having a whale of a time with your Suzy Bake Oven and your St Tropez Barbie Dream House!!!

She much to do, so little time! Bring in reinforcements to help with the backlog Phil. You are only one man. May the force be with you. 🇨🇦🙏❤️
That’s one thing I dislike living an old stables is that there is constant upkeep. It’s winter here in Sydney Australia and it’s leaking and it’s cold as a tomb. Commiserations Phil with your chateau’s problems. Thank you. May you please take care and stay safe. Louisa. 👏👏👏❤️❤️❤️🤩🤩🤩
Phil, you need to install those lower drip edges back on the chimney. It's a vital part to keep the water from running straight down the chimney and into the structure.
Decluttering is a top priority. Don't double handle anything. Take tubs with handles and sort all the stuff in a room into piles or if small items into the tubs. By category of use. All fabrics, all painting stuff, all garden etc. Just downsized after 25 years on acreage - 3 beds, 2 sheds and a studio to a home in the township. Good luck. Set a timer. Do 30 minutes at a time.

This^^^^ for me, birds to be than to heart. Thank you!
Phillip, sorry your roof is leaking. We have a small house in comparison to yours but we still have repairs that need to be done inside our house. 4th of July we had a large tree limb fall and broke our utility pole in half leaving us with no power for 24 hours so I understand your frustration about dealing with house issues. Be careful repairing your chimney & gutter leaks, please wait until you have help. Kathy USA 🇺🇸
I would photograph the writing and dates on the wall. Print it off and frame it.
Just a suggestion Phil, why don't you get your drone out and see if you can get a proper look at the chimneys before you do anything. I would also get your cherrypicker to that gutter leak as soon as poss. The weather is so changeable at the moment and last year the weather collapsed in August. Time is not on your side I'm afraid. Good luck. 🙂
The amount of rain over there has been incredible. I’m amazed there’s not more damage. Lovely views from the top. Stephanie at Lalande Chateau Diaries had a clear out of her attic. She had bags in the roof when they first moved into the Chateau years ago? Always good clearing up
It should take quite a few years for the roof leaks to cause any significant damage. In the meantime go fishing. Relax. Read books. We only go around once. Have fun. Don't forget to mow the lawn. 😇
Looks like your attic needs a clear out too while you’re at it. I never find stored stuff lasts nicely unless it’s bone dry.
Phil, you have done such great work with the Chateau and I know that repairs are always necessary in one form or another. I think one job at a time then on to the next would be less frustrating for you. Things are creeping up on you but don't fret over them, just make the best of it all. It will work itself out. Have a great day
The history is fun to learn and its neat to find names.
Dear Phil. Get rid of the A crap unless it is a useful tool. Good luck. Stay focused!❤❤❤❤😂
Just a quick comment about making your kitchen more up to date cheaply. Firstly the cornice on top of the cupboards looks dated. The cupboards can be easily and cheaply painted by you using Annie Sloane chalk paint and wax finish. The floor I would cover in an attractive vinyl. Work surfaces can be replaced cost effectively and tiles can be tiled over or painted for short term fix.
Everybody is always so quick to volunteer Billy for everyone else's projects 🤷♀️. He only has a small crew himself and his own huge project!
I was unnerved by your being up so high. I jumped when you were working on the gutters. Whew!
The number one job is always in keeping the water out.
I was just about to ask about the hooks on the roof😂😂 Thankfully I decided to wait until the end of the video. Thank you for answering some of our questions before we ask them!
Hey Phil, I am going to repeat the broken record we all are about the writing in your attic, Get Ryan to read it as Roseanne had suggested then try to preserve it, it the history of your Chateau. also @Kellwng suggested Yanis to do the repair I think he would be perfect. Water damage is the worst damage to have. Good luck. Much love from N.Y.
Hi Phil, what a task you have. Much admiration for your hard work. Tight space in the roof space. A cherry picker is the answer and a safer way instead of hanging out the windows! lol. A drone would help you to see the roof completely too I’m sure. Some interesting things in your loft. Keep up the good work, hopefully if it stops raining you’ll get to relax a little and enjoy the sun. Take care. Pam 😊
Looks like one of the inscriptions say Philippe Charpentier
The view from the roof is lovely. It also looks I good shape.
Hi Phil, hooks on the roof what a great idea. Fabulous view from up there. Not a Solo job repairing the chimneys, cherry picker probably would be the safest option if the wallet allows, but 2/3 people with harnesses etc out the window could do it 🥴. Any luck with the paint samples? Keep smiling, be safe, Cheers Judith 🦋
Thanks for show us the attic. Keep clearing because it makes you feel better about things and you’ll know what you have. Considering the amount of rain you’ve had I don’t think it looks too bad upstairs. Best wishes.
I think Yanis is the best bet, he is small light weight and can get around to do things like that, plus hes eager to do it.
Is your puppy ok! I have missed seeing him!
Hi you can get guter hedge hogs almost like a gaint loo brush which will stop the leaves blocking the gutter or a wire cage to stop leaves going down 😊
Hi Phil! I love it when you show us the attic and other places! I hope that you can get some help to finish projects that you shouldn't do alone. I think that some people forget that your house is surrounded by a moat! That means that you can't get to the roof in places with the cherry picker! I remember what it was to do some of the shutter work and the chapel window with the cherry picker! All across the moat!! I think that I would go out a sky lite too! Ha ha! It is a challenging Chateau, but interesting, quirky, and beautiful! Have a good week and carry on! (or crack on if you want!) Thanks for this video!!
Phil, stay calm and keep on. You can only do what you can, but little by little, you accept a lot. The leaks and the gutters need to be done when you have help. I can't do a lot these days but if I were there I would help you.
Carry on Phil. You are the man to get these things done.
Phil, the first picture you showed in the attic their was something moving some kind of animal. I don't think its a bird. You might want to check a little closer. The Mrs.😊
Hi Phil. Get some pizza and sandwiches in and get your friends =Billy, Ryan etc to come and help - feed them and everyone muck in. I'm always helping people and then struggle and do jobs by myself, so, learn from one that knows.....get some help - those leaks must be a priority......sod the tree, that can wait.
I spied a critter in the attic (at 6.25 on video) someone else commented too. Need to organise an eviction notice! It might be an idea, after the gutter cracks are fixed, to use gutter brush or mesh to help prevent the tree debris from building up. Wish you had some help with the simple organising tasks to leave you free to tackle the main stuff.
Another great video. The camping equipment reminds me of the cheap Walmart gear. I love the truffle cheese. I buy it in a shop in Iceland every time I visit the country. NICE
Roof leaks are the worst. Our chimney has had several as well. Hope you get them repaired soon. ❤
So sorry for the leak setbacks! Steady on it, a day at a time, not to overwhelm! The plaster with the names and dates is such a treasure! Since it is crumbling with age, and probably impossible to safely remove, could you bring in some good lighting and make some life-sized photographs to put in some large frames? Perhaps an experimental cleaning first, off on a side somewhere, would be good to see if the plaster could be whitened without affecting the writing?
I LOVE the blue wallpaper in the leaky fireplace chimney room .Its beautiful !!
When you looked up to the ceiling I could see what looked like a possum???? Or squirrel or such like critter. Regards Shaelene Read. Australia.
shutters fit through the skylights? If not saving chuck them out. Want to save them, then get someone to up there to lower them down several at a time. Note I said get someone so you do not have to work back through there.
LOVE the old graffiti in the attic. I wonder if those artisans were local and their families are still in the area?
Sending you good vibes good luck 🍀👍🤗 Love Sue ❤❤❤🇬🇧❤❤❤
BEST WISHES TO YOU
The only date on that attic wall was Bouvet couverture 2011. Just take some photos and then blow up the text on your laptop.
How is Lightening?? Not been in the videos lately
Perhaps those gutter screens that I’ve seen that prevent debris from building up and clogging the downspouts would help? Good luck with your clearing. I love the salon that is painted yellow it’s such a cheerful room. How’s Lightening?
Hi Phil, you may want to ask Michake Pathrinick about the design services that The Little Green Company offers. They will come to your home and help you with colors, papers, and fabrics! It's just an idea! Best of luck!
The best way to get rid of leak stains is to spray the stain with undiluted bleach - spray leave to dry and if still there spray again - a lot of people paint over the stains but you don’t need to
As you clear out have a dedicated room or rooms to store your extra decorations furniture etc. Store like things together like paint tools paintings etc. Do you have a list of jobs to be done on your computer include length of job tools products to buy and have a goal of achieving say ten jobs a day. Mix short jobs with longer or boring jobs. It could help you achieve more
That’s a scary job repairing the chimney and gutters I am scared of heights.
Hope you remembered to close the window.
Doing great, Phil! 😁🇺🇸
Hopefully good weather will be here soon, thank you for sharing 😊
In our ex School House in Normandy it had all zinc guttering etc and some had small holes in it. On a very dry day I went up on my ladder with flashband and melted a patch over the holes inside the guttering. Amazed they lasted really well. Still good 4 years later. Our chimneys were the same, rubbish sealing method of cement covering the soakers. Just re did it though. Would of been better if your soakers had of been taller. Then could of put a render bead over the top of the soakers against the chimney and cemented over and to the bead. This would allow movement of roof to chimney join and not crack the cement laid against chimney and slates. For your bedroom you could always put a liner down and small stove, plus carbon monoxide alarm and smoke alarm. I lined our chimney by pulling the liner up from below, rather than on a roofing ladder through the skylight. You have a lot of stuff!!
Another set back with the leaks Phil. You need to keep and preserve some how the names and dates on the plaster it is a bit of history. Enjoy the clearing out
You are so calm,I would be panicking like crazy. Sorry you don’t like being inside the attic but could you go back up with a few yardsticks and photograph the stains, then you will be able to see any difference in the future. Hopefully all those you help will return the favour and help you. Roll on the better weather for you and us in the UK, but it’s only July for goodness sake 🤣🤣🤣. My mum vibe is to have a corner, sewing machine, glue and staple gun and get on with your soft furnishings for you, I would be in my seventh heaven. Take care K🇬🇧🇬🇧❤️
Oh my goodness, I rewatched 6:25 because someone said there was a creature watching you and there is! Yikes! I think you need to photograph the signed names and frame them for documentation. A French person should be able to read the names. I’m glad you won’t be attempting the chimney repairs alone. Stay safe, Phil. ❤
You can buy cage type things to keep leaves out of your gutters but it's expense
It's a;ways 1 thing after another, maybe Billy and/or Yannis will help you
I love that big red tree, absolutely beautiful.
Oh, Phil, the attic! When we are 12, it is an adventure. When we are 20, no problem, run up and fix it. When we are 40, huff and puff and bend and groan. When we are 60... let's go have a look at the flowers instead. 😘It doesn't get easier. Are there no kids in the area who'd love an adventure day moving the shutter out of the attic? And, while they are there, moving all the items stored there close to a door and shelve them? Do they have Boy Scouts in your area? You could give them special prizes to take home (like that little green desk and the peacock feathers). European roofs are so sensible with the roof hooks installed during construction. It is almost impossible to repair steep roofs without them.
As I say the joys of home ownership. The bigger the house the more to deal with. But it your mess and problems. Deep breath and move forward
G'day Phil, don't stress m8. Like the cherry picka idea. Like the hooks on the roof, hope you use them with the ladder and ropes, and a person on the other end of the rope m8. Like your attic. You'll get it done. Thanks for another, stay vertical Eh!
That was at 6.26 mins into your recoding. 😮 Shaelene Read.

Left-side name looks like Phillippe Charpentier.
Phil! What about filling gutter covers ? Or create some yourself
Maybe a big dehumidifer could help in the attic?
Use a FLIR camera to source the leaks.
Couldn't tell how large the skylight was, could you pass the shutters through it onto a cherry picker basket and down?
In the US you wouldn’t ba able to inhabit the house until the black mold was remediation. It’s that’s dangerous.
You told us about the previous repair history before maybe spending some time checking all the chimneys and tiles make sure all are in good repair sooner than later.
You can always rely on them chimneys so they can be used

Phill l was pleased to hear you say you will not be doing the work on the roof unless some one is with you and you may be able to borrow Billy’s cheered picker when he his not using it. I like the dark blue best but it his your choice that matters big huggles from Lynda ❤
Throw that Rustoleum paint away, it’s rubbish! Much better furniture paints out there if you needed it ☺️
Hey Phil, greetings from Brisbane, Australia. I am an avid follower of your channel. I can’t help but notice that you appear to have various piles of crap throughout the chateau- Why don’t you have a good clean up and put all the crap in one place - Just saying!!! 😎

Stupid idea. Kitchen roll onto where you think the water has ingress. Check when it rains if its damp you found a leak. Worked in a victorian house. Checked paper in attack at 12, 24 and 36 hrs after heavy rain. Good luck.
Random thought. If the rain has been very heavy, and there haven't been fires burning, might the rain have soaked through from the inside of the chimneys?
Your gutters don't have enough of a drop towards the drain. They are too flat
I think one of the names I saw is Philippe Charpentier.
What are the hooks on the roof for ? And just like that, I got an answer.
Phil don’t do that roof job yourself, get a roofer in to do it. You’re good at doing stuff but more at ground level. It’s too big a job just getting up to the roof to do it. Yes do house clearance, much safer. :)) lot of junk to go or sell. One mans rubbish and all that lol. 😆
Can someone tell me what the hooks on the roof tiles are for please? Are they for hooking a roof ladder? It’s ok, I was premature, Phil explained lol x
🌟👏👍🍀💐
Stay safe please
Call Billy. Have him bring the cherry-picker that they used for their chateau roof. You can fix the leak in the gutter at the same time. Don't be on that roof by yourself!!!!
