    Today I climbed a 80 ft pine tree and I got up towards the top and she was swaying back and forth. And then you popped into my head saying I'm not in a hurry I am at peace. I took a deep breath I drove my Spurs in and let the top go and that noodle was rocking and rolling. I was smiling so hard my face hurt. my dreams are about to become a reality all because of my climbing gear and a power saw And some positive motivation from buckin Billy Ray. Thank you for everything you've done for the community.

    I have a 5200 and a 4200. I love them both. Thanks for the video. When you took apart the 5200 muffler I noticed that your just had the large hole baffle. A stock muffler also came with a spark arrest screen that wrapped around the baffle. This screen reduces the throttle response even more. GO GREEN!!! Thanks again.

    Just wanted to take some time out of my day. To tell you thank you for elaborating on your thought processes when cutting trees, and explaining why you do what you do, the way you do it. I hope I said that in a way that it makes sense. Stay safe and have a blessed day.

    The old small block chevy and 318 mopar crossovers for choke in intakes used to carbon up. We would take cutting torch, get some of carbon red, then shut off acetylene. The O2 would burn them out clean as a whistle. Might be a option here. Thanks for your videos. Very organic.

    Hi Buckin Clean that carbon out of the port so it can breath right. Next best thing to doing a porting job. I bought a new Poulan Pro 4000 back in the 80,s when they first came out . First thing I did after break in was I removed the screen in the muffler that help . It has cut lot of timber and fire wood , has been a good saw . Now it needs crank seals to run again . I have been watching and learning from the Iron Horse Channel . Been thinking about doing a rebuild and some porting and muffler mods and make it really run strong . Have a great day and be safe .

    Michael Fresh Yes, it works well. A couple ounces in a gallon of fuel mix will slowly help loosen some of that carbon buildup during normal running, but you have to load up the saw and work it - buck up some big firewood, don’t go trimming trees or slashing with it.

    I have s Wildthing. I cut the spring on the pop off needle in the carb, drilled numerous holes in my baffle, and kept it for back pressure. It didn't have the holes yours does. Then I drilled 6- 1/8 holes where it goes straight thru. And it is one of my best and favorite saws. Guys are often trying to buy it. It's my limb, small wood saw. I put a 14" bar on it for better control. It eats wood. Poulans seem to like some back pressure. But I'm about to do some things to my 2450 soon. Another small saw. I have a Husky 460 for my bigger stuff. Love to have an XP thou. I have an ol 64 Homelite XL. First saw I ever used. I was 10, and I'm a 64 model as well. I have a 74 Poulan 245, 77 Micro, a small Homelite (Craftsman) 2.1.

Im going to build a pipe for it, i just cant get enough air out of it... so another pipe adventure begins

    That is it! Just think if they didn’t restrict and vented the saws properly, up to and including factory porting to get the highest potential out of these engines. Most of these are low compression and need a better squish. Beyond all that, good oil and gas and the rest is pure enjoyment.

    There is a pulse in the exhaust and that screen disrupts that pulse and interrupts the natural flow of exhaust gas. Think about an expansion pipe that gives that pulse room to flow naturally, then you introduce the back pressure at the end of it. The reverse happens on the other side of the cylinder.

    I needed a cheap saw to clean fences and haul around in the UTV. So I bought a Poulan pro 5020. Not a bad saw for the price I think it’s basically a cheaper version of a husky

  • @andrewb2111

    @andrewb2111

    3 жыл бұрын

    I have a 5020 that I bought last year on clearance for cutting up dead fall in my 30 acre woodlot. It's been a great saw thus far, a little finicky to start after warmup but you get used to it. For the price point on a saw with a husqvarna engine, you can't go wrong. If it breaks I'll bite the bullet and buy a new husqvarna with a 20"+ bar. If i sold the wood i cut with the 5020, it's more than paid for the new "expensive" saw.

    @gettintheresafelywithpatf2869

    I also have the Poulan pro 5020, only mod has been a new Oregon bar and chain. It was getting finicky on warm starts, then I cleaned the air filter, also drilled the muffler for a 3/8 hole. It runs a heck of a lot better! They need to breathe as with any 2 stroke engine, the trick is finding the right balance!

    I got little 3300 from the lawn mower shop for $20. They said it was junk but, it had strong compression… cylinder was pristine… Carb kit, new fuel hoses, and EPA muffler delete, and it’s a screamer.

    I've got an old 59 or 60 F100 bow saw with the gear reduction. It weighs close to 50 lbs and I heard they were beast in their day. I can't wait to get it running again and then it's going on the mantle in the living room. The old fellow I got it from said it was running when parked but that was many many years ago. Anyone know of anything to be looking out for on those old poulans ?

    I promise, you get them 85cc poulans crisply tuned, you will be running them all the time. They are powerhouses when right.

    She's a bit rich, I find the mufflers to flow fine as they are. You may get a bit more with an extra port, or cut out the baffle, but really just more noise with an extra port IMHO. Those are some sweet saws Billy!!

    so what age are we talking about for a good Poulan? We all know there are serious design flaws in the modern ones. And good saws are hard to come by here, since there is not a booking forestry industry, but |I could travel and keep an eye open when I am in saw country.

    @@brotherlove100 Any of the magnesium case saws were generally good, the last ones were made around 2004, the last large saws were made in the late 80's The new saws don't really have design flaws, they're just designed to a low disposable price point for the consumer market unfortunately.✌

    @@stephenmontgomery6043 The 8500 were made into the early 90's, but they didn't sell a whole lot of them, so they're kind of rare. The 3400, 4000's were made in large numbers into the early 90's as well, those are not so rare.✌

    Question: At what ratio are you mixing the gas for the Poulan? The new saws run at 40-50:1.....but the old saws need more oil, huh? Won’t 40-50:1 be too Lean to run Poulan....help me out, Please?
